Long story short I accidently clicked "Quit to OS" while in the main menu while having a 280+ modlist that takes 5+ minutes to load. So I created this QoL mod.

I genuinely want to experience the world of RimWorld. Of course, I’d probably starve to death within a few days, since I don’t know how to grow crops or fight. (Though I’m pretty confident in my burger-making and construction skills.)

Art Deciding on an art-style for a colony-sim inspired by Rimworld

I shared this prototype for a Rimworld inspired colony-sim a couple months back and I got some great feedback from you guys! I've put a couple months of work into it, and now it's time to settle on an art-style for the game. We've used some non-royalty free (Warcraft 3) assets for testing the feel of the game, and we're going to replace them before the next public build of the game. The first 3 gifs are the current state of the game, and the rest of the pictures are concept art about what style would look best. I would really appreciate your opinions on if we should use A, B, C, or D. Thank you so much!

It's an incremental/idle colony sim game, inspired by games like RimWorld, traditional roguelikes (like Caves of Qud), and Civilization. You play a God of the Moon in a weird, mysterious, and complex simulation. You must use your godly powers to grow your religion, inspire your people to build grand cities, and defend your territory from other Moon Gods that want to expand their own territory.

Colony Showcase UFO

Decided to give my gravship a theme. My colonists are on the flying sauser

  • ship you get at start of scenario
  • first sauser before getting more gravilite plates
  • sauser rebuilt after completing some of quests. I tried to keep starting ring size visible
  • same size but with all floors and style
  • final size but with most outer ring empty. Color coded different rings
  • final shape with most area filled

Insights:

  • My storage area stayed almost same size for most of game. It turns out you don't need to make it big (no storage mods were used)
  • Hats take more space then materials for them
  • Biotech buildings take a lot of space. I only managed to use them when outer ring was ready
  • Barracks are fine even for endgame colony
  • 1 lamp with hydroponics is enough for ~15 pawns
  • berries can be used in place of survival meals for caravans (it's tedious to change food policy each time)
  • Turrets are not useless. Colonists can protect only one side of ship at a time (without using pause too often)
  • Mechanoids will come before Devilstrand grow

Discussion Playing on peaceful

Yes, I am a pussy 😅

I'm one of those who play on peaceful. I play this game as a cozy game, with barely any challenges etc. I'm not above cheating either, if a colonists I really like is about to die.

I like my happy little colonies, everyone have their own bedroom and everyone is (somewhat) happy.

I won't lie tho, you get to a point when you don't have much more to do, and you got too many colonists. They just thrive, and it gets boring.

I'm not gonna lie, the game was too hard for me when it wasn't on peaceful (I will be honest, I did not try for long)

What's the experience of other peaceful players here? How do you play?

And, for those who don't play on peaceful, can you give a noob like me some recommendations on how to dip my toe into the normal game, without getting completely destroyed at the first obstacle.

Is this all just random flavor text or does it mean anything? Cause I'm reading it and I feel like I'm gonna have a stroke. Last screenshot is everything that was on the loot shack.

Discussion I'm gonna run the ship for the first time and I'm lowkey so scared

Guys currently I'm 350 hours at this game on Steam and this is my longest run ever. The construction of ship is over but I'm scared because the game says "if you run the ship reactor the ship will be able to take off after 15 days and during the 15 days the enemies will come to fuck your ass up." Help please, will it be hard? I really don't wanna lose this 14 years save. Pls dont give spoilers idk what happens when you launch the ship.

Discussion I’ve just clocked up my first 1,000 hours in Rimworld

Post image

What can I say? There’s no better colony simulator out there. Over these 1,000 hours, I’ve experienced so many emotions, from disappointment to sheer agony, and I fucking love it. I’ve played through quite a few storylines and remember every single one, because the challenges the game threw at me – even without using AI (in the sense you’re thinking of) – had me on the verge of despair. I hope Ludeon Studios keep up this standard in future (I’ll give you all my money for the DLC).

Guide (Vanilla) Can I bring back a dead colonist with his head bitten off

So I am playing vanilla rimworld on commitment mode and on naked brutality. My main character(Skye) the guy I started with died of a agony pulse from another colonist, I opened up my ancient danger to put him in a cryosleep casket, until I get my hands on resurrection serum. All well and good until I realise that Skye has gotten his head bitten of my rats. Can I still resurrect him and how to I get what’s left of him in a cryosleep casket.

I helped this guy when he fell from the sky, but he refused to join my colony, and since he doesn't have his own faction, he just lives on my map and my pawns sometimes feed him

Discussion 60h in, what are the best QoL mods? (vanilla only)

Post image

Been having a blast with this game, feels like dwarf fortress with 30% less headache and I'm loving it.
So far I've been using blueprint mod, an X men mod made by me (but I'm gonna put it out for my next serious playtrough) , RimHUD, SmartSpeed and NeatStorage.

Any suggestion on things to add?

Have some lazy pessimistic ones that I want to get rid of to keep my recluse bonuses. Not sure how to do so without giving my other pawns super negative effects for a while

Mod Release Better Caravan Hitching Spots... lets you transfer and balance animals between hitching spots

Thumbnail gallery
31 Upvotes

Hello fellow RimWorlders!

I like to use hitching spots to park some animals without having to build a pen. But I was always annoyed about the limitations of the hitching spots. You can't transfer animals without deleting the spot or building a pen. Wouldn't it be nice if we can just transfer animals from one spot to another? ... Yes absolutely!

Better Caravan Hitching Spots adds two gizmos directly on the caravan hitching spot, so you can move animals where you want without breaking the spot and without all your animals zooming away.

Steam Workshop page: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3793970533

Requires Harmony. Can be installed mid-save.
Go and download it, you know you need it.

May Randy spare your caravan!

Suggestion Kids’ learning through books?

I love having kids in my colonies. They are so cute and you can watch them turn into cool adults. I just really wish that they could learn through reading, and not just watching work be performed and school. My kids always grab books to read and …nothing. Is there a mod for that? I mean, I learned by reading. And these kids yearn for the books.

Discussion How to manage very high raider counts for performance

I keep running into this issue where I get absolutely massive raids, like 70~, 100~ or higher amounts of people. It isn't a gameplay/difficulty issue - they're often not geared that well - it's that the sheer number of pawns tanks my performance, and I often have to dev mode destroy all the bodies just to get some TPS back.

What can I do to manage this? I've heard of mods that try to counteract this for high wealth colonies by merging the stats of the larger raid into fewer, but more powerful pawns - are those still a good option, and if so what's a good recommendation? (Sorry, last I heard of these was a couple years ago, so I'm not sure what the latest mod would be or even what it's called.)

Would the wealth-independent threat scaling setting help, or does that get similarly massive after enough time?

Discussion Motivation for Building Simple Stone Research Benches Or Less Common Materials

I personally prefer building research benches out of stone. Often marble, since it has more beauty than other stone research benches. However, from what I've seen on Twitch and YouTube this seems rather uncommon. Almost always people make them out of wood. The only exceptions seem to happen for extreme desert or ice sheet runs, but people still seem to tend to make them out of steel. That's a nice change.

But, what about motivation for making them out of stone? Stone simple research benches have more hitpoints, but this only sounds possibly relevant if insects will attack them and you can stop the insects before they destroy them. Does that seem likely to anyone reading this?

Maybe like a *flat* ice sheet or extreme desert makes stone research benches a more logical choice than steel, since you'll probably want to rush hydroponics for those bases?

I haven't played with it, but does the nature primacy/tree worshiper meme combination (or just nature primacy) motivate building research benches out of stone since mining out steel causes a mood debuff?

Any other reasons or scenarios where building simple research benches out of stone would make sense at least early on?
