🇶 **How do I get faster at x? How do I get sub x?**

🅰️ There are two ways to get faster on any cube, there are two main things that influence the times you get. Efficiency and TPS, if you believe you are already turning fast enough / solving without pauses, you likely need to learn a more advanced technique / alg set. If you believe you are already solving efficiently, you may want to focus on better TPS and/or recognition. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

🇶 **Should I make my own lube?**

🅰️ It's probably a bad idea unless you know what you're doing, often it'll end up messing up your cube.

🇶 **What is the point of lube?**

🅰️ Lube is used to do many things, different lubes do different things such as; increasing/decreasing the speed of the cube, making the cube feel more smooth, etc.

🇶 **What should I learn after 3x3 beginners' method?**

🅰️ There are many advanced methods out there, the most popular being CFOP and then Roux. The easiest method to learn after layer-by-layer beginners methods would be CFOP though it's recommended to check out other advanced methods too. Most advanced methods can solve a cube in 45-60 moves.

🇶 **What do the letters mean? (F R' L' y, etc)**

🅰️ Instead of saying "turn the front layer once clockwise, top layer this that, etc", notations have been developed to better describe moves. There are slightly different notations for each puzzle, there are often tutorials for the notations.

🇶 **How do I do OLL edges on a a big cube?**

🅰️ General methods for solving big cubes include pairing the edge pieces before solving F2L. You should pair the edges beforehand. To learn how to pair up edge pieces or solve centers, check out J perm's tutorials.

🇶 **How do I improve my F2L?**

🅰️ Lookahead is a huge part of F2L, if you aren't confident with that, it is a good place to start. Try to predict your first pair and insert inito back when possible. Try doing untimed solves and simply analysing patterns and trying new things/inserts. Rotations can also highly affect your F2L, learning how to do cases rotationless will help a tonne. Another tip is that you should try to solve into the back if you can, this means your next pairs will be easier to recognise (not hidden in that back corner). As for efficiency check out example solves / algs on speedcubedb.com to make sure your algs are decently essentially, you could also try learning a few pseudoslotting cases and look at multiple potential pairs and determine which is the best one to do (instead of doing the first one you see). Metronome practice is incredibly useful too.

🇶 **My cube has one (flipped) corner to go, how do I solve it?**

🅰️ A cube becomes impossible to solve if you flip just one corner, to make it solvable again, you must flip it back. This can also lead to problems with recognizing last layer cases, if you encounter a last layer case you don't know how to solve, it's likely a corner has been flipped.

🇶 **How do I solve this OLL/PLL on this (big) cube? (OLL and PLL parity)**

🅰️ There are some cases called parities that occur on big cubes that don't occur on 3x3s. For example, two edges can be flipped. The algs for these cases are often long but you can find them on one of the resources linked above.

PS: If you have any ideas on things I can add here / or just better ways of writing things, post a comment :)

How to solve?

I accidentally dropped my cube and the middle pieces fell out. I carefully studied my other cube to put them back in the correct order. Now, when I do my usual solving routine, I am getting strange results. How do I solve two mis-matched middle pieces on the yellow layer?

Are Magnetic Cube really that effective

So I started cubing(seriously) again after like leaving it for almost a year. I currently use drift 3×3 jelly which is pretty good and has a very great feel. But the translucent colors sometimes ruins my speed because guess what I solve it in dim light. Although that's not an issue. I wanted to know that how viable is a magnetic cube. Like I heard it's good but how good. And I have few options which looks good. Just need opinion on which one to buy or to even buy at all.

Edit: Thanks to everyone for responding. I'll be buying rs3m v5.

Kind of stressful but worth it (tweaking GAN16 cube settings)

Learned a lot about cubes doing this. I knew it had many magnets but I always assumed it had some mechanical thing at the center. Nope - A Rubik’s Cube is actually many interleaving shells of unconnected plastic with a network of high-powered magnets at its core that they slide across.

It was surprisingly easy to do as long as you find some YouTube video on it to walk you through it. The hardest part was putting it all back together, particularly OLL (oddly unsurprising lol).

edit: I ended up maxing out everything (magnet strength, tension, and center travel), which is about twice what the default GAN16 settings are.

My new really cool cube

Hi guys I recently started cubing and I got a new cube from one of my best friends and I have no one to share it with but this subreddit. It’s not magnetic but it’s pretty cool and it got me from sub 1min to sub 46. I’ve only been cubing for about 2 weeks, and learning OLL and PLL right now!

I solved my first cube

I've been using the beginner's layer-by-layer method. I've already learned the entire process except for solving the yellow face and permuting the last-layer corners. Those are the only things I still need to learn properly.

How do I make this Rubik’s Cube tighter?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi guys, I just got this Rubik’s cube a month ago off Amazon. I’m getting into speed cubing so I figured it might be the time to buy a speed cube. I accidentally dropped it once at work and now it feels very loose and feels like the magnets don’t work as well either. I watched videos on how people remove the pieces to tighten it and I’m not trying to break it by putting too much force. I can’t find any videos do this Rubik’s cube specifically. I want to know if it’s possible to tighten it or anything?

Please let me know.

AoLong V1?

Hello, I’m an old cuber looking to scratch an old itch.

Years back I left my black AoLong V1 in a movie theater and lost it forever. Since losing it I went back to my WeiLong V2 as my main despite getting a RS3M and TengYun M in recent years. And I can’t forget the one that got away.

Anyways, when I lost it, I was a high schooler unable to afford the used prices of V1s after that infamous corner twist led to the hasty discontinuation.

I’m hoping there’s a collector out there with their hands on a black AoLong V1 willing to part with it for the right price. I’ve tried looking on eBay now and then but have never had luck seeing one. Also please let me know if there’s other places to look, I’m unaware of any cubing dedicated second hand markets. My only other hope is to start wearing a shirt with “sell me your black AoLong V1” to comps lol

I've made a cubing website to introduce cubing to Pakistan. It's called "cubewithali". You can improve your skills with our FREE tutorials and also use our timer to time your solves. You can also interact in our chatrooms with other cubers.

If you have any feedback, please write in the comments of this post.

Made a little guide for the beginner method

My teacher bet me $100 I couldn’t teach him how to solve a cube so here’s the lesson plan I plan on using, thought I’d share just in case any non-cubers could benefit off it. And for any seasoned cubers, would apprec some constructive criticism.

LED Rubiks Cube

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The description in English and German:

Hey, I built a Rubik’s Cube out of a LED strip and an Arduino Nano. It is controlled by an infrared remote and so can do every possible turn and rotation (both directions). It can be scrambled on command and also jump into solved position (it doesn’t solve itself on its own yet…). I have included an y-perm (because why not) and the possibility to lower or increase the brightness, it also can be turned off (at least the LEDs) with one button press. When it is solved it plays the blinking animation. Last but not least it has a rainbow LED mode which makes it phase through all possible colours and then returning into the colours it had before.

I didn’t generated code with ai, this project was made by notes on paper and many (sometimes painfully obvious) errors.
By now this project is far from finished, my next step is to plan and do the aesthetics like colouring the wood black and diffusing the LED‘s light.
If you have some ideas that could be added please comment them, thank you.

Vielen Dank

For my sanity. How do I get it so the F orange colour is on the R orange face and the R green colour is on the F green face with white on top?

Looking for a specific algorithm

So I have this situation where the edges are swapped. Same on the other two faces that you cannot see. I know how to complete it but it’s a long method. I was looking for an algorithm that can swap all four edges without ruining the blue face

Is there any trick to memorizing 4x4 OLL and PLL parity algorithms? I’m struggling to memorize the parity algs.

Rubik

Can expert Rubik’s Cube solvers freely create any color pattern they want? I don't mean solving the cube, but being able to arrange the colored stickers into any specific pattern they choose.

3x3 is so difficult. I don’t know how people solve it in just 4–5 seconds. It took me 2 days to learn and solve it completely. 🥲
