Question Merit aid
Can u get merit aid without submitting SAT or ACT but 4.0 gpa and rigorous class schedule?

Please do not submit posts soliciting participation in studies, job advertisements, your college MineCraft server (I'm looking at you u/TheQuadMC), or other spammy posts, UNLESS it is specifically for SCU. As a rule of thumb, if you are posting it in more than one subreddit, its a no. If you are curious whether a post is allowed, please submit a ModMail ticket. Thanks!

Hi all! I wrote a paper with advice for incoming/current COEN and CS CAS students while I was a senior COEN at SCU last year.
Paper linked here: https://jrandleman.github.io/doc/CoenAdvice.pdf
Some background on myself, I was the lead engineering peer advisor and president of Tau Beta Pi (the engineering honor society), both of which regularly interface with new folks seeking advice. As such, I thought I'd compile it all in a paper while such was fresh in my mind. Designed as a paper I wish I could've read as a Freshman, I hope it brings value to folks :)
Please also keep in mind this is 100% my own personal perspective, and that many others have found great success in the program(s) by following a completely different path. This is just what worked for me, and hence I thought I'd share.
I'm also currently a Master's COEN student at SCU, so feel free to reach me at [jrandleman@scu.edu](mailto:jrandleman@scu.edu) if you have any questions!
Last note: I've marked the flair as "listing" given this could be construed as listing advice 🤷

I was looking at past career fairs and saw that SJSU has much more/better companies going to career fairs than SCU.
I thought SCU was a feeder to top companies in Silicon Valley but it seems its career fair is lacking.
Was it all just marketing/hype or do well known companies come to career fairs?
FYI: Me and my friend both checked handshake he goes to SJSU and me to SCU and his career fair was stacked compared to SCU. Both of us are EE

I'm an incoming freshman and a business analytics major- for anyone else who has the same major or knows, is there a roadmap on Workday or the SCU portal that shows the suggested classes we should take in freshman year. Other than general eds, what classes did other business analytics majors take their freshman year? Also, is it recomended to take four classes instead of 3 my freshmen year, or will it be too much?

Hello, I am considering applying for the online MSFA program? The online program would fit my schedule only, since I do work full time. Wondering if anybody can speak to the experience on this and post job placement? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi! I’m moving to the South Bay soon and looking for a private room or short-term sublease from September through December.
Location: Santa Clara / around SCU / Sunnyvale or nearby areas
Budget: ideally around $1,500/month
Preference: private bedroom; shared apartment/house and shared bathroom are completely fine.
A little about me: I’m male, clean, organized, respectful, easygoing, and pretty flexible with roommates. I don’t smoke, rarely have people over, and like keeping common areas clean. I can cook and am happy to coordinate chores/shared household responsibilities.
If anyone is subleasing a room, looking for a roommate, or knows a friend who is, please DM me. I’d also appreciate recommendations for any local housing/sublease groups.
Thanks!

Hi.
So this is my 1st time posting and I am an incoming freshman in EE at SCU and I have heard that it doesn't have the best reputation in the bay for finding jobs and internships and I should of gone to SJSU or UCD (both which I got into and they were all relatively the same price give or take 10k due to generous scholarships from SCU)
People say companies dont hire from SCU and instead opt for SJSU. Is this true?

Anyone had Robin Tremblay-McGaw for Eng and Shilpa Dasgupta for math before? How are they? Also I’m an international student so I got these classes assigned to me but is there a way to switch?

I enjoy watching basketball and was hoping to watch the games on campus but they seem quite expensive - is there an alternative or something u can do to watch games live for cheaper or free?

Have any of you guys taken Econ 3 with Rita Madarassy? Is she really that bad or are people overreacting? I just got done with transfer orientation and her class fits my schedule and I really don't want to move my other classes around. Should I drop her and wait next quarter?

Hello, I was wondering what the best on campus job would be if I wanted a position where, during my free time or when there is no work to do, I could study or complete homework.
edit: thanks for the response!

I am a member of the Astronomy Section of the Rochester Academy of Science. Our cities have a shared history of the 16" Refractor Swift Telescope, which used to be housed in Rochester and used by Lewis Swift to discover 100's of deep space nebula and galaxies, while Swift was in Rochester. Swift then moved to California and brought the telescope with him. When Swift moved back to NY, the telescope stayed and changed hands once. From what we read, the telescope was last used in the 90's and then the Ricard Observatory was sealed at SCU. It looks like the building is used by the Archeology department. The Swift telescope is depicted in our club's seal. A few of our members have reached out to different people and departments without any luck. We are curious about the current status of the scope and would like to locate a point of contact. Thank you in advance!
