Question Econ 3 Instructor
Have any of you guys taken Econ 3 with Rita Madarassy? Is she really that bad or are people overreacting? I just got done with transfer orientation and her class fits my schedule and I really don't want to move my other classes around. Should I drop her and wait next quarter?

Do not take her under any circumstances she’s by far the worst professor at SCU. Take Dobrescu she’s super chill

What about her is so bad ? I also had orientation yesterday and I have Econ 3 with her. I can handle bad personalities.
If she’s not good at teaching the material then that’s a different story.2

I’ve heard horror stories I don’t have any personal experience, but I heard she’s super unorganized, doesn’t explain anything well, and the finals absurd and you only get like 1 minute per question

Her classes are already full before I got to sign up. We are last in priority to choose so yeah we get whatever leftovers are available. It's either Chiu or Madarassy. I'll just drop it because I don't want to deal with that instructor and ruin my first quarter here.
And the registration system is complete ass and confusing. Wished there was different platform than Workday. Even my community college was super easy to find and register for classes. They made it even more complicated and only gave us one hour window to register so we can't even make changes besides dropping a class. Don't know if it's just SCU or other universities are just as terrible as this.

Yea you will get whoever you want next quarter for Econ 3 because you will be before like the freshman for registration. Yea registration sucks dick but you get used to it and workday isn’t horrible once you know what you are doing

If you don’t mind answering, do you know if you can still take upper-division business classes if you have a lower-division class left, like ECON 3? Or do you have to finish all the lower-division classes first?

I am pretty sure you can but some of the upper division have prerequisites with certain classes or units so as long meet those, you should be able to sign up even if you haven't completed all your lower division requirements. It's just recommend to complete your lower division first but the upper division classes are already closed with no sections left. You're most likely going to contact the department manager for that class if you want to get in. I probably should've asked more questions to clarify when doing sign ups but I was too tired.

Genuinely my biggest concern about transfer orientation on Friday

There should be a few classes available but it's limited and almost everything is closed. You'll get access to a couple of businesses classes but there's only one or two sections and getting access outside of that is going to be a pain. You're put in a rotation for sign ups and rotation 1 gets to sign up classes earlier than 2. Workday gives you your assigned time to sign up so you have to actually stay with your assigned rotation group because it won't work when you are rotation 2 and you follow the 1 group.
I will not lie orientation was really boring with many tech delays and downtime. They also yap about some non important stuff and bore you to death. It's really exhausting from 7:30 to 5. However, you will meet a lot of cool people. Please try to socialize with people and get to know them. That was probably the only good part when you get to meet many amazing students with cool background stories.

Thanks for the heads-up! I really appreciate it. So, whatever time I currently see in Workday is my time, I’m assuming? Also, are there people available to help you if you’re having trouble with a class you need, for example, if you changed majors? Or are you kind of on your own?

Yes, that is correct. And yes there are people to help you so I don't think it's that bad but you still have to figure out yourself. You will be put in groups based on your major and have some of the staff around you for assistance. I honestly don't know too much about the process of changing majors within or outside of your school. You can ask them that and they're should be more than willing to help.
