How often should you tech? and whats the right way to balance in-place/ in/ away?

I realize I'm only teching 25% of the time right now and most of the time is in-place. surely thats exploitable, right? weirdly though my opponents' distribution looks similar, so im confused send help

So while we got a DLC character this year, it would still be cool to see the best players play interesting matchups. So my proposal for the format is:

6/8 Random characters are picked by computer, next players alternate bans until 2 characters are left. Afterwards there is a BO3 series of matches (most likely just BO1, but could do more), where the players go char A against char B, then they switch, and if it's 1-1 they play a decider were each player can choose whichever character of the 2.

I think it would lead to us watching the best players showcasing some cool things in matchups we basically never see, with luck factor greatly diminished, as basically no one really mains more than 3 characters(and even that is rare), which in case of 8 random chars and 3 bans each for players would be nicely eliminated.

I can see it beeing pretty hype even just on the selection part(some players angling for a "standard" matchup and others just wanting to watch the world burn), would always show how players play both sides of the matchup (and then most likely a ditto) and a great boon - we would very rarely see a puff.

I think it would work best with commentators, but would be a fun format even just on twitch, e. g. Zain showing of his cheese mastery against someone more competitively ;)

This game is art to me… I’ve always equated it to skateboarding, which was also like an art to me… Or even music/rhythm… I never went to locals, but I always loved the intense competitive skill and advanced tech… I’ve played with a couple friends ever since the game came out

Slippi’s release introduced me to the competitive scene from a first person perspective… Very cool btw.

I have no concept or ability to log opponent habits in my mind. But I mean this was trash. I felt I was playing smooth. And I definitely was playing with that calm confidence in games one and two but of course I lose game two in a ridiculously stupid way and it causes me to lose the whole set

Hi all my friends and I are getting into Melee after being long time Ultimate players, do you have any suggestions of where we should start in terms of tech? We’ve got characters we like chosen but are still struggling in terms of tech (wave dashing, l-cancel, etc). Any tips?

Anyone have any recommendations for good melee content creators? I've watched all the videos from people like Walt, asumsaus, and GRsmash, but I need some fresh melee content in my life these days.

I currently only have a laptop available and I would like to play on Slippi, my internet is fun but I am having issues running the game itself. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I used to play a lot of melee in high school, and I would lug a CRT everywhere in the trunk of my car. I’m in college now, and I’m looking to play with my roommate and a few other friends. Since our living room TV doesn’t have RCA inputs, I was wondering if there was a consensus best adapter for an hdmi tv. Since it’s only for friendlies, it doesn’t need to be perfect, but I just want to make sure I get one for a reasonable price that doesn’t slow the game down a ton. Let me know what recommendations you guys have!

With players like zain wanting to take a brief break to lock back in on competition and fewer events than previous years what if we were to try to organize majors with like a 3 month off season where top players aren’t expected to compete. Do you think this could raise attendance and even viewership?
