Has anyone else dealt with severe code violations from AMH?

We just moved into one of their properties in South Weber recently and immediately found a major electrical issue. The dryer outlet. It is completely ungrounded and running at a dangerously high voltage. This is a massive building code violation.

Instead of treating this like an actual emergency, AMH management is just brushing off our concerns and stalling on the maintenance request. They handed over the keys to a house that is absolutely not up to code, and they clearly have no urgency to fix a glaring high-voltage hazard.

Just a warning to anyone looking at renting in Northern Utah or anywhere else AMH operates. If they are willing to ignore high-voltage electrical hazards, you really cannot trust them to provide a safe place to live.

Has anyone actually managed to escalate a huge safety issue past the local property managers? I already spoke to Davis County Env Health Scientist, South Weber City’s Code Enforcement Buliding Inspector, The Division of consumer protection (can’t help with tennant landlord disputes) and checks the Utah Fit Premise Act against my lease and waiting now for a call back from Utah Legal Services.

UNETHICAL PRACTICES. Worst bank I have ever used. Had them for a few years problems throughout. Decided to close all of my accounts. Went to the branch waited of course with employees sitting around. Canceled All accounts!! Asked the employee, is there anything else I need to do, his response was nope you won't ever hear from us again.....oh boy!! 5 days later I get an email that they didn't close bill pay, so a payment was made on my CLOSED ACCOUNT!!! Spent at least 5 hours on the phone with customer service for them to tell me, we have never had that happen before we're not sure what to do! How does a bank pay something on a closed account??? Now, a few weeks later they have reopened my accounts and want the money they screwed up and paid. Nobody has called to tell me this or apologize for what they have done. Worst part is the lack of accountability and lack of communication. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Is everybody else absolutely loving these thunderstorms and downpours every other day or so?

I didn't see an announcement anywhere that Delta has posted the SLC - LIM flight for 12/1/26 - 1/31/27. It's pretty cheap right now for a lot of dates ($770)! I snagged a ticket for a week in late January. I wish they would expand this so it's not just 2 months.

I drive Beck/Victory Road pretty regularly and I’ve seen the refinery flares countless times, but I have genuinely never seen anything like this. Tonight the flame was enormous, the plume above it was glowing orange, and it was roaring loudly enough that we could clearly hear it while driving past. I understand that refineries use flares as a safety system and that excess refinery gases have to go somewhere during things like startups, shutdowns, maintenance, equipment problems, etc., and burning them is generally safer than venting those hydrocarbons directly into the air. So I’m not saying the refinery itself was on fire. But that almost leaves me with more questions. Why was so much gas being flared tonight? What exactly was being burned, how long did it last, and what was actually released into the air as a result? Flaring can produce CO₂, NOx, VOCs, sulfur dioxide, particulate pollution and other combustion products. We already live in a valley with notoriously difficult air-quality conditions, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want transparency when something this visibly unusual happens.

I have chronic ENT issues, so air quality is something I think about a lot, and seeing this honestly really upset me. I know these refineries have been here forever and I understand that you can’t exactly pick up an oil refinery and move it tomorrow, but driving alongside miles of heavy industrial infrastructure this close to downtown and residential neighborhoods has bothered me since I was a kid. One of the photos I took literally has a gas station in the foreground with this gigantic open flame behind it, and the whole thing looks surreal.
I’m not trying to fearmonger or pretend I understand refinery operations better than people who work there. I actually want to understand it. Does anyone who works at/around the refineries or knows this industry know what would cause a flare to get this large? And is there somewhere the public can see what caused a specific flaring event and what was emitted?

I have $9 to get me through until next Wednesday 09/09. I'm living in a hotel while I get a work certificate to start making money. I am not a Utah resident, so that also limits me in regards to food pantries as well. I'm just looking for a place to get a precooked (or even cold premade) meal a couple times a week to tide me over until I am able to get some funds on 09/09

I have EBT and on the mycase website it tells me a number i need to call to verify work changes. I have entered the number in exactly but when i call its a clearly scam? Saying I've been selected to win free prizes and things. And an ai person came on offering free medical devices. Whats going on? This is ridiculous and people are going to get scammed that need help.

I’ve been renting for 10+ years but never in Utah and I’m finding things are very different out there!

I got this text today after sending a request to tour an apartment. The “send a selfie and a photo of your ID or passport” is sketchy enough, but the “by 4:30pm” seemed really intense, and reminded me of the way scammers try to convey urgency. After thinking about it more, I supposed it could just be the deadline for them to look over things and let you tour same day.

Still, all of this seems a bit weird and would be very unusual where I live now. Does anyone know if this is typical or have any familiarity with this company?

If it is a scam, does anyone have tips for renting downtown? I’ve heard a lot of “find a private landlord” but that doesn’t seem to be as easy in the downtown area.

I work downtown and had a pass to The Gym until it went out of business but really miss the ability to get a lunch workout in. I'm not interested in Planet Fitness and have looked at SLT Gym but it seems too advanced for my lifting comfort level (I prefer cables, machines, and basic free weights like a bench press).

Because of the new law, I will lose my Medicaid insurance if I don’t volunteer a minimum of 80hours a month. My type of work doesn’t have me working consistently, and I’m afraid I’ll lose coverage if a month has less than 80 hours.

Im just gonna put this out there, i have an open womens ticket for HYROX SLC. Will give it till Friday before i cancel. I do have the flex option. I got hurt in a race Saturday and i don’t think i will be healed in 2 weeks. I already have denver and anaheim so im willing to sell my SLC ticket.

We've had a ton of rain the last four days and the sprinklers are still running daily all over the city. Seems like an awful example to set for water conservation.

I've been doing some research on Google and KSL and there is not reliable way to tell if a handyman is a dude with some tools vs. a general contractor.

So here I am asking the community if you can recommend some reliable, professional, skilled dude/dudette with tools for general handyman work. If you have contact info feel free to DM if they aren't someone that can be searched via Google.
