Hi all, I'm Ben! I’m a student at the Uni of Sheffield researching how people experience travelling and getting to work in Sheffield - it’s my dissertation topic!

I’m sure we’d all much rather get around the city faster, cheaper, and more easily… The research I’m doing is basically trying to help make this happen by actually asking what you think!

I'm looking for ANYONE who lives or works in the City Centre, Hillsborough, or Heeley area, and are in some form of paid work (any job counts!) to have a short chat (really informal!) about how you get around in the city - do you drive? Do you take the tram, or the bus?

I’m looking for people with all sorts of experiences and routines, and am loosely focusing on people aged 18-40 (but don’t let that stop you!). Also, anything you say would be fully anonymous, and you’d have complete control over what you’d like to be used in research.

Is anyone on the newer superfast internet packages - over 1.5Gbps? I've been on PlusNet's 900Mbps package for a while, and it's been good, but I've been seeing broadband speeds going 2x, 3x, even 4x as high in some areas that do up to 5Gbps.

For example, in my postcode, I could go with MTH or Briant and get 2.5Gbps, 1.6Gbps with Zen or potentially up to 5Gbps with Connexin.

Anyone had experience with these other providers (I believe many of them are powered by CityFibre)?

The sign says 4:00-6:30pm does it mean the bus lane is only operational from 4pm-6:30pm is it?

I see this Mural all the time but please pardon my ignorance but I have no idea who it is.

Firstly, thanks to everyone here who helped me find a venue. It's because of this community I managed to find a place to put on a show.

I've been to a few electronica gigs in Sheffield recently, and it's great to see the music scene growing here, a lot of cities have lost this but Sheffield still got it!

VENUE ACCESSIBILITY
The Drama Studio's main entrance has step-only access. There is an accessible auditorium entrance located at the side of the building on Sherwood Road. There is ramped access (width: 120cm) to this entrance equipped with handrails where audience members will find a bell/buzzer (height: 120cm) and an intercom (height: 88cm). There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance. Once inside the theatre, there are designated spaces for wheelchair users in the front row of the auditorium. The nearest accessible toilet is located 12m from the designated seating area. This venue does not provide audio described performances, but there is an infrared hearing assistance system which Drama Studio staff are trained to use. Assistance dogs are allowed in the auditorium.

Considering moving to Meersbrook and Norton Lees. Can see that the 20 and 18 buses go near where I’m looking at, and was just wondering if anyone can tell me how reliable and frequent these bus services are as I’ve heard that they can be pretty unreliable.

Tried a few places over the weekend but none sell it. The closest place I can find online is in Wakefield.

The city centre has a PSPO on "drinking alcohol in an antisocial manner". Does that mean I can't have a can or bottle of beer while walking about or sitting down st the Peace Gardens?

I'm 22M and I've lived in Sheffield for 4 years and graduated recently with all of my friends moving so I'm all by myself! I loved Sheffield so much I've decided to stay and I'm starting a new job in a few days.

Are there any recommendations of how to get out there and meet new people through activities or social groups? I can be quite shy but I do love socialising and I want to push myself a bit. I'm quite outdoorsy, like hiking and climbing, been getting into arts and crafts as a beginner, recently bought an acoustic guitar to play around with and love board games. Just craving some social interactions :)

I bought a second hand sewing box today and when I was clearing it out I found this lovely photo. Was wondering if anyone knows who it is, if they would like the photo! Sewing box bought from Haeley antiques in Sheffield.

The wonderful thing is the box came with quite a few patterns and I’m the same size as all the patterns.

I listen regularly to this podcast about the early history of the BBC. One of their recent episodes was supposed to be about the establishment of the BBC's first station in Sheffield (6FL) in November 1923. But while doing their research, they discovered that there was actually a pre-BBC station in Sheffield, run by the Sheffield & District Wireless Society. This isn't mentioned in traditional histories of British radio, because they were mainly based on the BBC archives in London and the London press. The original Sheffield station can actually lay claim to several British and possibly world firsts, including the first schools broadcast and the first regular religious programme. But basically all of this got forgotten, because it was only reported in Sheffield papers, and because it was a genuinely local station, not just a branch of the BBC or one of the big radio manufacturers. But it did leave one tiny legacy: the fact that the BBC's 1920s Sheffield station had the callsign 6FL (rather than the planned 6SL) was a tribute to Fred Lloyd, the founder of Sheffield's own radio station.

I thought people here might be interested in this lost corner of Sheffield history.
