I'm still learning so far my fav lens is the AF 35mm f2.8

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to decide between the Sony A7 IV and A7 V. I’m coming from a Canon 80D. I’ll mainly be using it for portraits, weddings, baby showers, family sessions, events, etc. Photography will definitely be my main focus, with a little video here and there if a client asks for it or if I feel I want to capture some video during sessions. My biggest question is: is the A7 V really worth spending the extra $900?
If I go with the A7 IV, am I still getting a camera that will last me for years, or is it starting to become outdated now that the A7 V is out?
I’d rather put that extra money toward good glass if the A7 IV is more than enough for what I’m doing, but I also don’t want to regret not getting the newer body.
Would love to hear from people who have used either one!

P.S, I already bought my first lens the Sony 85mm f/1.8 and I’m excited to use it.

Hello everyone! I’m looking for some feedback for improving my wife’s photography experience. She just started a basic photography course, and is enrolled in a commercial photography degree. Several years ago I bought a Sony Alpha A6000 this is the unit she’s using for the class, and she has the basic kit lens and the 200 mm zoom lens that came with the set when we bought it years ago.

I know that there must be some better lenses out there that are a good fit for entry-level photography, but will also be good to grow with her as she becomes more skilled in her trade. I won’t say that money is not an issue, but I do believe in the “buy once, cry once” theory. I don’t want to have to upgrade again after six months, but I also don’t think that we need the most expensive professional lenses either.

I know for sure that she would appreciate is having some form of macro lens, perhaps uv or polarizing filter, and maybe some other useful gadgets. We have a nice tripod and cleaning kit ready for it.

Anyone have some thoughts on where to go here? What’s the one piece of gear that you couldn’t live without?

i've been looking to get a second camera budget body to use and looked at the a7s ii. it looks amazing and still uses the fz50 batteries, which i already have from my a6500. any thoughts about it??

I've used my fellow photographers Cannon and Nikon and I've found the face switch via the joystick quite intuitive. Currently with my Sonys, I have to manually move the AF area to where the face is.

The face switch is quite useful for sparse crowd AF but with the denser crowd, this feature isn't great.

I have the old a7riii and Zve1, not sure if there are additional AF featureset

Hi, considering buying the first lens for my camera, an A6400.
I would like to buy the kit lens in order to experiment and find out which prime lens to buy in the future.
I can't understand if I should buy the first or second model of this lens, they seems pretty much the same, and only the stabilization in video seems better on the second version, and maybe a better focus, not sure.
Price wise are similar, second version is slightly more expansive.
Main use will be photography, but I'm sure I will make some videos in the future.
What's your take?

I was recently shooting some videos in the movie mode, but when I was uploading the photos + videos, I couldn't find any of the videos. I used to shoot in shutter priority and found the videos in my files app, but now I can't seem to find them. I checked my camera to see if it was gone somehow, but it's still there. not sure where to access these videos.

I'm currently trying to decide between a Sony A7S III and an A7 V, and I'd really like to hear from people who actually own one of these cameras — especially anyone who has owned both or deliberately chose one over the other.

A bit of context first.

I'm a freelance photographer/videomaker in Italy, with around 4 years of full-time experience. My work has progressively shifted toward video, and that's where I want to focus professionally over the next few years.

I shoot a mix of:

- corporate/commercial work

- events

- music events, sometimes in very low light interviews

- social media content

- occasional weddings

- short films / narrative work

- occasional photography when a client needs a few photos alongside the video

I'm essentially a video-first hybrid shooter, rather than a photographer who also happens to shoot video.

I've been using a Fujifilm X-T4 for years. It's still perfectly usable, but I've reached some of its limitations for the kind of video work I'm doing, especially AF and workflow. I also work with another videomaker who uses a Sony A7 IV, so moving to Sony makes a lot of sense for lens sharing and keeping our equipment compatible.

My budget would allow me to buy either an A7S III + 24-70 GM II or an A7 V + 24-70 GM II, so the price difference isn't really the deciding factor.

Why I'm considering the A7 V

On paper, the A7 V is an incredible hybrid:

- 33MP sensor

- much newer AI-based AF

- excellent subject recognition

- very good video quality

- 7K oversampled 4K

- 4K60 full-frame

- 4K120 in APS-C/S35

- much better stills capability

- EVF

- newer generation body and processor

It would obviously be a much better all-rounder than the A7S III.

And I understand why someone who wants one camera to do everything might choose the A7 V.

But then there's the A7S III

The more I look into the A7S III, the more I struggle to see its age as a real problem for my use case.

It's a 2020 camera, but it still gives me:

- 12MP full-frame sensor optimized for video

- excellent high-ISO performance

- second base ISO around 12,800

- 4K120 with only a relatively small crop

- 10-bit 4:2:2

- S-Log3 / S-Gamut3.Cine

- S-Cinetone

- excellent AF

- excellent 9.44M-dot EVF

- very good IBIS

- excellent rolling-shutter performance

- HDMI RAW output

- timecode

- LUT support

- a huge amount of video-oriented functionality

And, importantly, the FX3 basically shares the same imaging platform.

That last point is actually one of the reasons I'm leaning toward the A7S III. I don't see the 12MP sensor as a disadvantage for video — if anything, I like the idea of having a sensor specifically designed around 4K video rather than a high-resolution stills sensor being asked to do everything.

My dilemma

What I'm struggling with is this:

Is the A7 V actually the smarter purchase for someone like me, simply because it's newer and more versatile?

Or would the A7S III make more sense because my priority is clearly video?

The A7 V seems like the obvious choice if you want the best hybrid.

But I'm not sure I actually need the best hybrid.

I already have an X-T4 that I can keep as a backup/photo body. I'm much more interested in building my career around video, and I could potentially see myself adding an FX3 in the future.

In that scenario, an A7S III + eventual FX3 seems like a very logical combination because the two cameras should match extremely well.

Whereas buying an A7 V feels more like choosing the safest "one camera does everything" option.

I'm especially interested in real-world experiences

If you own an A7S III:

- Do you still love using it in 2026?

- Do you feel limited by the 12MP sensor at all?

- How do you find the AF compared with newer Sony bodies?

- How does it behave in very low-light events?

- Do you feel like you're missing anything important compared with newer cameras?

- Would you buy it again today?

If you've moved from A7S III to A7 V, I'd especially like to hear why.

Was the A7 V actually a meaningful upgrade for your work, or was it more about getting a better all-round camera?

And if you've gone from A7 V to A7S III, I'd also love to hear what made you switch.

I'm not really interested in spec-sheet comparisons alone.

I'm trying to understand what these differences actually mean after using the cameras for months/years in real professional work.

Sony A7MII -Sony 28-70mm f/3,5 - 6,3

that’s my second post about the new R but like the long exposure with it I can’t find enough reliable info about this either.

What I’ve seen and read is that it loses sharpness? I often shoot in low light and 1600-6200 range and the main reason for getting the R is its high detail and great colour. However at those iso it seems its worse both colour retention wise and also overall iq than something like a7v and of course the a1

Hi, when i take pictures with my A73 the horizontal pictures are really sharp and good but when i take vertical pictures they arent sharp even tho my focus is on point. Does anyone know the reason for this? I would greatly appreciate help :)

I want to but the a7iv but I read that they have issues with its shutter, how common it is? Thank you!

I updated the lens firmware but it didn’t change. Sometimes it snaps right into focus back to back but most of the times its not. It looks like it looks for the focus but stays blurry not matter how long i half press the shutter button. I know its a cheap lens but in the end camera gears are expensive and i really want to use this lens. I couldnt find i suitable flare for this post but i really need your help guys
My camera model is sony nex-6 my kit lens works perfectly with autofocus. No problem on that
What should i do
Is it because the body is too old but the kit lens works fine i don’t understand

Im finally upgrading myself from an old nikon dslr to a mirror less. And im surfing thru the preowned market and my current options are
Sony A7M2 Camera Kit with 28-70mm
But i would be needing a different lens for what i do (concert photography)
Or for the same price (and after selling my old camera)
Song a7m3 with a Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN for Sony E Mount (Grade A)
Now my major concerns are
1. is the difference that significant?
2. what's their performance in low light?
3. any other alternatives?
4. any recommendation?

So I just wanted to get some feedback from everybody. This was my first time editing in pro res raw I used my Sony Remus lenses all of the lighting is natural color graded in da Vinci resolve I want to know any other color grading tips that you guys would recommend

I just bought an a6300 bundle recently to try photography with a dedicated camera. And I was very pleased with what this kitlens already had to offer! Please share your thoughts and tips on what I can try to get the most out of this camera!

Hi, been shooting with Sony since 2014 (although loved my Dad’s old 60’s era Minolta) started with an a6000 and then moved 6 years to an a6600. Now I got that 6 year itch to upgrade to a Full Frame camera. The 7CR seems to fit the bill as it will still give me comparable photos with my aps-c lenses (have 6) and let me slowly upgrade to the Full Frame glass over time. Am I making a mistake? Looking for anyone who has done this route. All comparisons have been the a6700 and the 7CR. the leap seems more dramatic on paper from the a6600.

also have my eye on the Viltrox 26mm F 2.8 evo as my first glass purchase if I pull the trigger.

I am a photographer and my photos taken in raw on my a7siii are averaging around 12,000-13500 KB per image. After editing, the photos are even larger. Now, I am just wondering if there is a way to lower the size my adjusting settings within my camera.

How will each method of decreasing file size affect my photo quality or capabilities while shooting.

I am not super experienced with storing data, so please explain in simple terms.
