!!ANY THREADS RELATED TO SHIPPING FOUND OUTSIDE THIS MEGATHREAD WILL BE REMOVED!!

I know we're all excited to share updates as our new shiny works its way through the system and eventually to you.

Instead of clogging the page with endless "ITS <UPDATE>" posts, please confine them to this mega thread. I have intentionally left up threads from before this one about this subject, because post hoc punishment isnt cool. But please, use this mega thread moving forward.

Optionally, you can fill out some google forms that are being used to track order status' in order to get an idea of how an order might progress through the system:

Steam Controller (2026) After waiting for like 3 months my turn in the reservation finally showed up! Also do not ever give into scalpers!

Post image
Upvotes

I reserved the day after the controller launched when it got bought out by scalpers who tried selling them on ebay for over 200 dollars. My father asked me for assistance for something on the day when the controller came out and I wasn't expecting this to sell out and I guess Valve didn't either. The waitlist for the controller was pretty long, I was thinking it was going to be potentially very bad like I would probably not be able to get the controller literally until the next year but I suddenly got an email from Steam telling me my turn to pay for the controller has showed up.

Great controller so far, but it's definitely not worth more than what Valve sells it for which is 99 USD. For those who are feeling pressured in paying scalpers don't because there are arguably cheaper controllers that are as good or even better than this one tbh. I bought a few controllers after my second PS5 controller got stick drift ranging from 8BitDo and Gamesir, I will never buy another controller if it does not have atleast hall effect or TMR sticks.

Steam Controller (2026) This is what Steam controller purchase email looks like so you don’t accidentally overlook it.

This is what the steam controller purchase confirmation email looks like. Initially I thought it was evidence of hackers getting into my account and trying to buy something. Honestly I almost ignored it altogether.

Steam has been telling me for weeks that I likely wouldn’t get my controller until December so that’s good news I guess.

Support Can someone check my vdf?

First time doing this, I've made some assumptions so I would greatly appreciate if someone could take a peak at it and tell me wether anything I've done is going to be problematic.

Beside tidying, the major things I've done that are uncertain is link virtual menu group to both presets with no handshake. Curious if the handshake is 100% necessary.

Aswell made some unique modeshift behaviors.

also, is there a way for me to test input stability and latency outside ingame?

Configuration Steam input/bindings question

The problem I'm having is that any very short inputs that are bound to LMB or RMB (in my case, tapping RT for an extremely short time (such as to spam it)), seems to result in the mouse click being held down indefinitely until I press it again. Does anyone know of an option/way to fix this?

Not sure if this is a good place to ask (I'm using an Xbox controller/don't have a Steam controller), but I was hoping you guys know quite a bit about the steam input options since they should be about the same for both controllers.

Edit: I've found an option in RT full pull-->settings to add a Fire End Delay. This (obviously) makes an input end after you let go, which has fixed my issue since it can stop the input from being able to be short enough to have the issue. I set the fire end delay to ~35ms, and it seems to have stopped it.
There might be a better solution, but nothing that I can think of, short of changing how steam input works, would fix it.

Configuration Useful tip for under-utilized trackpads: QTE / button mashing events in game!

Currently playing DAVE THE DIVER, where you need to rotate the analog stick quickly, or mash B button repeatedly. You can emulate the trackpads to be a joystick itself, or 4 sides where all are B buttons.

I feel this prevents your physical buttons from wearing out as quickly from the violent mashing over the course of the game.

Try it out if your game is simple enough to not need the trackpads, or you can even set it up as a layer/chord(?) so you can still use your trackpad normally, and only set it to active when you need it.

Steam Controller (2026) Bluetooth mode loses connection

I'm currently using the controller's dongle on my pc, and the Bluetooth mode to connect to my docked steam deck. However, after a while the controller suddenly loses connection and it needs to be re-paired. But this pairing is also very hit or miss, with multiple attempts needed. Anyone else have this issue?

Meta The Mug and the Controller

Hello everyone, at the beginning of the month I reported that I got this wonderful cup instead of the controller.

Now the Steam Support has taken a closer look at the delivery route and was able to determine that the original controllers were lost on the way to me or It was stolen. (I suspect that based on the weight of the package, they noticed a difference at some point.)

They offered me to either refund it or resend the controller. I decided on the latter and now I finally have it. I'm just happy

Steam Controller (2026) steam controller (2026) works with ps5 via p5general, openpuck and a rp2040. rough outline.

the steam controller works with the PS5 if you do the following setup, requires you to do some custom code / use the ai.

Items:

- RP2040 Feather with USB Host

-P5General Adapter (used for authentication)

- OpenPuck

- Breadboard + three wires

- Two USB-C cables, one for data and one for power

Build:

  1. Connect an RP2040 Feather with USB Host <- Plug into here a P5General Adapter, Flashed RP2040 with custom firmware to support P5General passthrough auth and steam controller inputs
  2. Connect the RP2040 to the OpenPuck over UART. RP2040 GND<>OpenPuck GND, RP2040 TX<>OpenPuck P0.08, RP2040 RX<>OpenPuck P0.06.
  3. Flash a custom build of OpenPuck that forwards and converts steam controller inputs into a dualsense and sends it to the RP2040
  4. RP2040 connects via USBC data cable to PS5, OpenPuck connects to PS5 via USBC Power cable only. This allows them to share a common GND too to reduce interference.

With some custom firmwares on the RP2040 and OpenPuck I was able to get almost full steam controller, Buttons (No back buttons but i could probs pre-assign them), Trackpads working to the PS5 trackpad, full motion support.

Not working: No vibration, No sound, No microphone. This is cause the P5General does not support vibration due to its descriptor. I tried many descriptor attempts but they all failed.

This required modifications to The OpenPuck and GP2040 firmware.

Note: I also tried to use the PS5 controller as a auth passthrough instead but the RP2040 wont mount that/does not provide enough power.

Discussion Reservation Queue Tracking

Is anyone tracking reservation queue progress somewhere? I.e. reservations have been fulfilled up to May XX? Also, as people ahead of me in line cancel, should I expect my estimate to change, or will it continue to say 2027 even if I'm next in line because some folks cancelled?

I have no idea what to expect. When I was waiting for my Playdate there was a community of folks always posting "my order number is 11XXX and I got my confirmation today!" So people in 12XXX would know they're close and I'm surprised to see this community isn't also doing that, or are they?

Configuration Is there a good way to tinker with configs without relying on the Steam overlay?

I find using the steam overlay extremely clumsy. I don't want something blocking my view of the game while I'm playing it, I would much rather be able to alt tab and just use a normal desktop program to tweak the layouts.

If this doesn't exist, I might look into making it myself?

Discussion Does the controller seem too narrow?

Is anyone else experiencing this? I have to play with my arms tucked in a bit more than a standard Xbox-shaped controller. I don’t know if my hands are just bigger, or my shoulders are too broad, but my hands get cramped up easily when gaming for more than an hour. The same thing happened to me with the 8bitdo controller and that’s why I don’t use it, as much as I love it.
Is there a grip that fixes this issue or do any 3D printer dudes have something in the works? I reeeeally wanna love this controller but this is the only thing holding it back for me.

Edit: I don’t get any cramping in my fingers at all, whatsoever. It’s just in my hands. My thumbs default to the joysticks and it feels natural, so no issue there. For context I’m 6’4” and 220lb. So I might be bigger than the average person using this controller. I feel like I have to tuck my elbows in to hold the controller properly.

Steam Controller (2026) If you're emulating WiiU or switch, taking the effort to set up DSU for gyro is well worth it

I tend to emulate a lot of games, and for a while I just accepted that there was no proper way to map gyro controls for WiiU or switch games from within steam. There are well documented non-steam methods though. For Zelda: TOTK I was struggling too much with the bow controls, so I caved and went looking for how to use use the "DSU server" option for adding gyro within the emulator.

SteamControllerGyroDSU exists. Set it up once, activate it in the emulator settings: flawless gyro within zelda, and it feels great. I regret not setting it up earlier. So if you plan to emulate switch games: I strongly recommend spending the extra 5 minutes to set up gyro controls through DSU.

Support Keyboard Focus

Anyone else having issues getting the keyboard to focus when pressing Steam+X?

When pressing it, most times when I go to type the keyboard doesn't function and my controller continues to act as it's bound (as if I never opened the keyboard).

The only "fix" i've found for this is to just spam Steam+X and constantly close and open the keyboard until it eventually works.

I use both SteamOS and Windows and this issue happens on both. Am I doing something wrong or is this just an issue where we have to wait for a fix?

Steam Controller (2026) Weird situation

Hello, I'm having an issue while playing Split Fiction in Big Picture Mode with my girlfriend on our TV. After a few hours of playing my steam will randomly crash without any sign except as soon as it crashes the controllers stop working/inputting properly and first thing I noticed upon checking via tabbing in and out with my wireless keyboard was that steam simply wasn't open anymore, which is odd because the game was still running. can anyone help me figure out why this is happening. I'm at a loss we are both using brand new and updated steam controllers. the game is updated and I was running the beta version of steam after it happened once I reverted back to the stable version and it did it two more times. All of this happened no visible crash (besides when I tabbed out of the game to check to see if steam was opened), or error pop up screen. any help is appreciated thank you.
Specs -
- Two brand new steam controllers with one puck
CPU- 7900X3D
Ram- 32 Gb DDR5
Gpu- MSI 5070
MOBO- ASRock A620I LIGHTNING WIFI AM5
