Student nightlife culture across Europe: Which countries stay active late at night like Greece?

I'm currently researching options for studying abroad in Europe. A huge factor for me, alongside academics, is the overall student lifestyle—specifically the nightlife and social culture.
Coming from Greece, I'm used to a late-night culture where bars, cafes, and spots stay alive well past midnight. I recently visited Bologna in July expecting a similar vibe given its massive student population, but I was surprised to see most places closing around 9-10 PM.
I wanted to ask about your personal experiences studying in different European cities:
1. Was my experience in Bologna just a July/summer break phenomenon, or is Italian student nightlife generally earlier compared to Greece?
2. Which European countries or specific university cities genuinely have a thriving late-night culture for students?
I would love to hear from people who have studied in Spain, Portugal, the Balkans, or elsewhere in Europe to get a realistic picture of what day-to-day student life feels like there. Thanks!

American Transfer Student wanting to Study Abroad

Hi all! I have completed ~50% of my business bachelor's degree at a public college in my state but have been looking to transfer abroad and finish my degree internationally. I have experience traveling and want to be able to see as much of the world as I can, so I've mostly been looking in Europe but have been overwhelmed with options. A couple of things narrowing down my search are: I need the full undergraduate degree in English; I'm hoping to move to a mid-sized to large city with public transit, since I won't have a car; and tuition under 10,000 a year so I can transfer comfortably. My searches seem to be turning up the same 5 universities each time, so I'm hoping y'all might have some ideas or a new direction I could go in!

Not as important criteria: hopefully some artsy places in town (I love ceramics and would love to continue to learn more while abroad), somewhere with community (my previous university was mostly commuters, and it was so hard to meet people), somewhere with transfer student scholarships (have been few and far between from what I can find).

I’m so f*cking stressed about the whole process.

Im 15F and I’m a senior in high school. I skipped two grades because I’m like good at it i guess…
Well I come from Ivory Coast and spent my life between my home country and France. Now i want to study in china and I’m really excited!! (I want to study medicine). But the whole process stresses me so much 😭 like i have to translate all my report cards to English because they’re in French 😞 and i have to take an English test and a CSCA exam which will attest that i have a good level in science. I didn’t tell my parents yet and I’m stressed about telling them because well I’ll 16 in freshman year and maybe they won’t let me study abroad alone. And the whole procedure costs so much money and even though my parents aren’t poor at all, i feel weird about making them spend so much money on me 😭 I’m just venting because I’m so stressed i kre thinking about studying in china everyday.

Lebanese student looking to study abroad for university — how realistic are full scholarships

Hey everyone, I’m a Lebanese high school student currently in Grade 11, and I’m trying to figure out my options for studying abroad for university after I graduate.

I’m mainly considering the US and Canada, but I’m also open to other countries if there are good scholarship opportunities.

My situation:

I’m studying in Lebanon and will graduate from a Lebanese high school.

My average is around 16/20 (roughly 80%), and I’m hoping to improve/maintain it in Grade 11 and 12.

I’m planning to take the SAT and I’m aiming for around 1400–1500+.

I’m looking for full or very substantial financial aid/scholarships, because paying full international tuition would be extremely difficult for my family.

I’m interested in doing a bachelor’s degree abroad, not immigrating permanently right now.

I’m willing to apply to a lot of universities and I’m open to less-famous universities if they offer strong financial aid.

I’m honestly pretty lost about how realistic this is for a Lebanese student. 😭

For anyone who has gone through this process, especially Lebanese/international students:

Which countries are actually realistic for getting a full scholarship for undergraduate study?

Are there US universities that could give someone with my grades/SAT target full financial aid?

How difficult is it for Lebanese students to get need-based financial aid in the US?

Are there better options in Canada, Europe, or elsewhere?

What should I be doing during Grade 11 and 12 to maximize my chances?

Are there any scholarships/universities that I should absolutely know about?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has actually gone through this, especially if you’re from Lebanon or another Middle Eastern country.

Thanks!

any way to get IELTS fee sponsorship or a waiver?

Hey, does anyone know of any way to get the IELTS fee sponsored, waived, or covered through a scholarship/organization?

I need IELTS for applying to fully funded programs, but the fee is a bit too much for me right now. Any leads would be really appreciated!

Which university is best for an MA in Visual Communication in Europe?

Hey everyone,

I’m an international student from India. I completed my BA in Mass Communication & Journalism and have 1 year of experience as a Junior Graphic Designer at a creative agency.

I’m planning to do a Master’s in Visual Communication in Europe for the 2027 intake. I’d prefer a public university, mainly because of the tuition fees.

My current shortlist is:

ZHdK – Zurich University of the Arts

Politecnico di Milano

UdK Berlin

Royal College of Art

University of the Arts London

IED – Istituto Europeo di Design

I’m interested in branding, visual identity, editorial design, art direction and creative direction.

For anyone who has studied at these universities — which would you recommend, especially for an international student? And are there any other public universities in Europe I should consider?

Thanks!

Should I go home ? (UPDATED)

I made a previous post on how awful I felt here, in South Korea. I didn't get better in the meantime, but researches about plans to go back home are a great distraction. I planned to force myself to study there, at least one semester to not have the "early drop out" mention on my resume.

But I actually reconsider the choice of studies, the BBA, a lot of people told me I'm not made for this program. I started the courses today, and I already know I won't like it, I mean the teacher can't even speak correctly in english, a lot of courses were cancelled last minute (mind you we only have 2days of courses per week including one day of just language training), they keep proving how much they are unorganized, and it pisses me off, I think I'm really wasting my time being here, I don't think this program will help me later, or teach me useful stuff. And I can force myself to stay, but I really don't see the point of staying, some things can get better, but not all of it, the english track teacher struggling to speak english will never help me in my studies. Staying here for 4 years, in addition of maybe ruining my mental health, will be a waste.

I like South Korea, in the facts, so I'm kinda sad about the uni being so unorganized etc, I got a proposition, to apply to other unis in South Korea, after spending one semester in this one, and lose my credits for a reorientation, I might be interested in biomedical. But I think I like South Korea more as a vacation place, or maybe settle in but in the future. I think going to Seoul after this experience, will be too overwhelming, all the administrative stuff etc, and I will eventually burn out. I can go back to France now, and start a biomedical program. Then maybe study abroad later, for a master.

I know people will blame me for not trying hard enough, but even if I do try, I don't think this university is made for me. And I know getting this opportunity, is a huge privilege. But I don't think it was a good idea, but I'm glad I went there to see.

Studying in Turkey with a scholarship, For someone with Dual Citizenship

Hello, I'm looking to inquire about something, if someone is generally from a different nationality, say somewhere in south Asia or europe, but they also hold Turkish passport which they acquired some years ago

I thought that by using just the original passport you could apply for TBBS government funded scholarship, though upon further research I've found that you can't do that apparently because you still hold Turkish passport despite not applying from that or being Turkish by birth

So if such a situation arises, would anyone have better suggestions on what to do? Like now they should probably drop the idea of TBBS, What now? They really wish to study in a university in turkey, to do undergrad there, but in an 100% English Medium

The problem is that Private universities offering English medium programs are quite expensive, so they're looking for somewhere that could possibly provide a good scholarship, if not a 100% one.

Chatgpt gave options such as Bilkent university etc, please help out and let me know if anyone has any personal experiences of universities (preferably in Istanbul) that teach in English and give out good scholarships.

hello everyone! i’m going to study in a fine art academy in the netherlands or germany so i’ve been reading information on the websites of some universities and academics and they all say i need to have a portfolio but there is no information about how it’s supposed to look like. i’m currently working on it with my teacher and he said that i should mainly focus on the basics and more traditional art however i am not fully sure that about it so please if you have anything to say about it, i would really appreciate that because i can’t find any decent information on this topic.

Leaving a comfortable life at home for med school in the EU soon. Am I crazy for doing this?

Hey guys,
I’m posting here because the anxiety is hitting me hard right now and I really need some perspective.
Right now, I’m a second-year dental school student in my home country. Honestly, my life here is incredibly comfortable. I have my friends, my family, a great routine, and a very stable, predictable future ahead of me. But deep down, I always knew dentistry wasn't my actual passion and that I really wanted to do medicine.
So I went for it. I applied abroad, got accepted, and everything is officially set. I'm moving to the EU for medical school very soon.
But now that the reality is setting in and the move is actually happening, I am completely panicking. I look around at how easy and comfortable my life is here, and I feel like I'm completely crazy for walking away from it. Who voluntarily gives up a perfectly good setup to go start over from scratch alone in a foreign country?
I’m glad I got in, but the second-guessing is brutal.
Has anyone else given up a stable, comfortable situation back home to move to the EU for med school? How did you deal with the pre-move panic? Did the regret go away once you actually landed and started classes?

Mental Health Abroad

I'm an American junior in college, studying in cph for the semester. I'm a little over two weeks into the program and was originally really looking forward to study abroad after a difficult semester in the spring. Since I've gotten here, however, my mental health has been in the tank. Part of it is situational, almost everyone came here with college friend groups and its been difficult to find friends. I've always been prone to depression, and I've been trying to do all the usual things to get myself out of my depressive episode and nothing seems to be making a dent. My home university ends drop/add in about a week, so I could theoretically still come back for the semester, but have to make a decision soon. Is it worth staying abroad or should I go back home and be closer to my support system?

I got my Turkey student visa and I genuinely feel like I made a huge mistake

I got my student visa for Turkey today and instead of feeling happy, I feel sick with regret.
I’m moving to Istanbul in two weeks for my master’s and now that it’s real, I keep thinking: what the fk have I done?

I have a comfortable life in Pakistan. I work remotely, earn well, live with my family and have my mom with me every day. I’m leaving all of that voluntarily to spend a huge amount of money living in a country with a struggling economy, language barrier and very uncertain future.

What scares me even more are the experiences I keep hearing from international students in Turkey racism/discrimination, people being rude or frustrated, horrible bureaucracy, housing problems and foreigners feeling unwelcome. I know every country has problems, but I’ve heard enough stories that I can’t just pretend these things don’t exist.

I keep looking around my room and at my family thinking, “Why did I choose a harder life when I was already comfortable?”

And the thought of leaving my mom is absolutely destroying me. I hate goodbyes and honestly wish I could just teleport there without having to experience leaving home.

The fucked up part is that I spent months terrified my visa would be rejected. Now I genuinely wish it had been rejected, because then I could have stayed home without having to make this choice.

I am still going. I need to at least give this one year a chance. But right now there is almost no excitement left just fear, regret and this horrible sinking feeling in my chest.
Has anyone felt THIS level of regret before moving abroad and then actually been okay once they got there?

Help Me Pursue a Master’s Degree in Sustainability Abroad

Hello everyone,

I am raising funds to pursue my dream of completing a Master’s degree abroad in the field of Sustainability. My goal is to study either Sustainability Management or pursue an MBA with a focus on Sustainability
Sustainability is more than just a career choice for me. I want to build the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to businesses and communities as they navigate environmental and social challenges. Through higher education, I hope to develop a strong understanding of sustainable business practices, ESG, sustainability strategy, and responsible management.

However, financing this dream is my biggest challenge.

I come from a single-parent family, and my mother has worked incredibly hard to support our family. Unfortunately, the cost of studying abroad is beyond what she can financially provide. I am currently working and doing everything I can to save money toward my education, but my current earnings are only enough to cover my essential needs and allow me to save a limited amount.

Despite these financial challenges, I have not stopped preparing myself for this journey.

I am currently taking online courses through Coursera to strengthen my foundation in sustainability and related fields. I have been studying the Oxford Foundations of Sustainability and ESG course, and I plan to continue expanding my knowledge through courses such as Erasmus Sustainability Corporate Finance. My goal is to build a strong academic and practical understanding of sustainability before beginning my Master’s program.

How Your Contribution Will Help

The funds raised through this campaign will primarily be used for:

University tuition fees
Required financial proof or blocked-account requirements, where applicable
Accommodation and rent expenses

I am also personally contributing toward this goal. The money I am able to save from my job, along with support from my mother’s savings, will be used to cover expenses such as:

Visa costs
Entrance examinations and application-related expenses
Flight tickets
Other necessary costs involved in relocating and beginning my studies

I am not asking others to fund everything for me. I am working, saving, studying, and preparing for this opportunity myself. However, the gap between what I can realistically save and the total cost of pursuing an international Master’s degree is significant.

Every contribution, no matter how small, would bring me one step closer to achieving this goal.

If you are unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with your friends, family, colleagues, and networks would also mean a great deal to me.

Your support would not simply help me earn a degree and it would help me gain the education and skills to build a meaningful career focused on creating a more sustainable future.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for believing in my journey.

I need some help ASAP!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm an Indian student considering studying Medicine in Europe, particularly Hungary, Poland or Italy, and eventually returning to India to practise.

I'm trying to understand the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations properly before making a decision, because I don't want to spend 6 years abroad and then discover that my degree/internship doesn't satisfy NMC requirements.

From what I understand, the important requirements include things like:

  • At least 54 months of medical education
  • 12 months of internship
  • The internship/clinical training requirements being fulfilled at the relevant foreign institution
  • English-medium instruction
  • Required clinical subjects and training
  • Being eligible/registered to practise medicine in the country where the qualification was obtained
  • Completing the required process/internship in India after returning

I'm particularly looking at 6-year English-taught medical programmes in Hungary, Poland and Italy.

Some universities I'm currently researching include:

  • University of Debrecen 🇭🇺
  • Semmelweis University 🇭🇺
  • Pomeranian Medical University 🇵🇱
  • Medical University of Warsaw 🇵🇱
  • Medical University of Gdańsk 🇵🇱
  • University of Bologna 🇮🇹
  • University of Milan 🇮🇹
  • University of Padua 🇮🇹

My main questions:

  1. Has anyone here actually completed Medicine in Hungary, Poland or Italy and successfully returned to India for registration?
  2. Which universities/programmes are known to satisfy the current NMC/FMGL requirements?
  3. How does NMC treat the internship requirement for these European programmes, especially where the university has a 6th-year clinical internship/practical year?
  4. Does a 52-week/approximately 12-month internship at a university-affiliated/contracted teaching hospital satisfy the “same foreign medical institution” requirement?
  5. Has anyone obtained written clarification from NMC about a specific European university/programme?
  6. Are there any European universities outside Georgia/Russia/Bulgaria that you would consider particularly safe for an Indian student who definitely wants to return to India?
  7. If you graduated from one of these universities, did you face any problems with FMGE/NExT eligibility or Indian registration?

I'm not looking for general advice like “study in India, it's safer.” I understand that India is the safer route. I'm specifically trying to identify whether there are European medical programmes that genuinely satisfy the current FMGL requirements.

If you've personally studied at one of these universities, returned to India, dealt with NMC, or know someone who has, I'd really appreciate your experience.

Thanks!

How much is too much student loan debt? (Advice)

Im an American who got into University in England. I was really excited as this has been my dream for a long time. The international tuition fees are going to come up to 41,000 USD for each year which would leave me with 124,000 in student loan debt for this three year degree. Please keep in mind that this is just tuition and no other expenses. While I have been saving up for this I am completely self funded and not rich by any means.

Should I give up this dream or is it worth over 124,000 in student loans?

Feeling absolutely empty (?) during the process of preparing to study abroad and still feeling this way even after being abroad.

Please if anyone could share their experiences, i'd truly appreciate it.

I'm currently almost a week into my undergraduate studies in Taiwan. I am on a one year full scholarship, and i just cannot shake this feeling of my chest, like an empty feeling where you just cannot feel like yourself? its so so frustrating. Ive been preparing to go abroad since early this year, but ive also been struggling a lot with this said empty feeling to the point of suicidal tendencies appearing almost every single day.

Long story short, i got a full one year scholarship to a university here in Taiwan, which meant tha i did not have to pay a single dime, though i got the scholarship for a business major. All throughout highschool I always knew i wanted to do nursing school or something related to STEM. After finding out i didnt get the major that i wanted, i was also looking at options to go on that ausbildung program so that i could attend nursing school while working. I decided to take the scholarship anyway, since my finances are already limited and Taiwan had plenty of part time opportunities so that i could save up and pay my own living expenses. But even then now i just realized that with part time work, there was no way i could keep a second year scholarship as the regulations for second year are much stricter and there was no way you could get other scholarships if you werent top 5 out of the whole department.

I had around 4 months of break after my highschool graduation in march, and I just couldn't bring myself to do anything that i used to like, its crazy cause less than half a year before that i was still doing my sport, doing a lot of extracurriculars, and going out with friends. Slowly i felt like a shell of myself.

Around a month before i left, i had extreme doubts. My divorced parents reminded me that they couldnt pay for my tuition if i do lose the scholarship, and that the tuition in the university i got ths scholarship from is on the expensive side. I started to think that yeah i end up paying everything by myself by doing part time, work, shouldn't i be able to study something that i truly wanted? If i am working myself to the bone, i should be able to want to wake up and be excited about classes right? Maybe get excited about doing lab work. I truly thought about staying back at my country to study a STEM major but again financially it was impossible, as tuition in my home country is basically only for the upper middle class.

I told my mom about this, but she told me that i already went through preparations and that i couldnt back down now. I thought that it would get better, that this feeling ive been getting all year would go away as im nearing the day of leaving home, and once i started classes and work i wouldnt even have time to think about my feelings. It didn't. As I went through moving day, orientation, and classes i felt like i was slowly losing my sense of self every day. I feel like my whole life is just dead weight, waiting for something to struck me so that i can give up. I go through everyday with the hope that this will all be over someday, and i wont have to feel like this again.

I know i should be happy, this is an opportunity many students would die for, but i just cant feel like myself anymore. I dont even know if i can afford the next year and living expenses on top of everything im going through. I got great roomates and nice college mates but i just cannot feel like myself. Its like im incapable of feeling happy. I keep telling myself that i should give myself some grace, to go through it one day at a time. I keep reminding myself too that there was nothing for me back home, but again i find myself thinking about my future here in Taiwan where its just as bleak.

I just felt that if i took a gap year i would be wasting time, but now im not even sure i can see myself being here anymore. I feel like such a coward and a loser that i cant even get through something millions of students do every year.

Can anyone please tell me if they have ever felt this feeling too? Or a similar experience? Im so so tired of carrying all this alone. I really hope this feeling would go away.

Looking for universities and fully funded scholarships

Hello! I’m currently looking for fully funded scholarships abroad for undergraduate studies, with BS Architecture as my priority program.

I’m planning to start university in 2027 (AY 2027–2028). Are there any universities or scholarship programs that are currently accepting applications, or whose applications will open soon, that I should look into?

I’m particularly interested in scholarships that cover tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and/or provide a stipend.

I’d also appreciate recommendations for countries/universities where studying Architecture as an international student is feasible.

Thank you so much! Any advice or leads would be greatly appreciated!!

Are online US high school diplomas accepted for Chinese uni admissions?

Hey everyone! I’m from Europe and I'm planning to apply to Chinese universities as an international student. I have a regionally accredited US high school diploma online from Excel High School and I have pretty good SAT score and I passed HSK 5.
Has anyone successfully used an online US high school diploma to get accepted into Chinese universities? I’m wondering if they even accept these type of diplomas? Will it be a bottleneck for me? I have already emailed quite a few universities but haven’t heard back from any yet.

Opportunities and options for employment outside India

Hello.

I am a 32M Indian looking for options and opportunities for working abroad of India. I have a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and M.Tech in Energy Technology (Renewable Energy). I was pursuing PhD which I quit recently due to which I have a 6 year career gap.

My financial condition will not permit me to self-finance myself. I am looking for permanent employment opportunities which is my 1st priority. I may continue my PhD later on.

I don't want to be a permanent resident there but return to India after retirement (not really sure of this, want your views). My only concern is whether in the future I will not suddenly be asked to return to my country as it will be difficult to find employment back here in my country especially if I have family.

Please suggest what options and opportunities are available to me and in which countries, given my profile.
