The Block - Season 22, Episode 19 - Living, Dining, Alfresco 2 (Live Discussion)

So… I mentioned limited hours yesterday. It seems that The Block realised pre-emptively how screwed up this week would be in regards to having limited hours, after having four weeks with unfinished rooms, because they’ve extended them, let’s hope that everyone ends up finishing as a result.

Meanwhile it’s just your standard typical Tuesday episode, where we see the continuation of the progress the teams make along with whatever else that Nine deems entertaining for tonight. Nothing really else to be said other than I hope that we all enjoy the show!

The Block - Season 22, Episode 18 - Living, Dining, Alfresco 1 (Live Discussion)

No, that title isn’t wrong. Yes, they do have to do all of that. After getting some minor miracle yesterday where after the absolute disaster they had in the first bathrooms it seems the couples learned what to do and actually managed to mostly finish, which I think we can all be happy with, they decided they would throw free rooms at them after that! With the limited hours, I wish them a lot of luck with finishing the spaces, and here’s hoping we can all enjoy the show!

House Two Charging for Tutorials

The way Wyatt is charging money for favours and/or flat-out refusing to lend the Cursio brothers is really starting to get on my nerves.

It’s like he thinks the way to win The Block is by hoarding trades, charging your neighbours for help and hoping the other teams get screwed over by a lack of resources? And yes, obviously everyone is there to win but if your strategy for winning depends on the other teams being disadvantaged rather than you simply being better at styling and designing, that says a LOT. honestly, to me, it screams insecurity. He doesn’t want an even playing field because he’s scared of losing.

If you’re as good as you think you are, you should be confident that you can beat the other teams on an even playing field.

Because if you genuinely have confidence in your building, design and ability, why are you so desperate to keep everyone else from having a fair shot?

Win because you’re better. Not because you made sure everyone else had a harder time.

Just my two cents.

Hey Producers! Genuine thanks

It is so good to not have toxic story arcs.

Useless show ! Please cannit !

Its become a yobbo's home & away show - nothing to do with proper construction and design. The contestants are true imbiciles and narcistics. Scott Cam should be ashamed to be associated with this crap show - for me all credibility out the window too.

Pity the buyers of this crap ...

I will never watch another season of this crap show again ... total rubbish viewing and noise pollution.

Mirrored wall

Do we think the judges will like Adam & Jolene’s mirrored wall??

I can’t think of much worse than having clutter duplicated or the view of the dust/fingerprints when the sunlight catches it arghhh the mirrors in our bathrooms are enough thanks.

Question Lack of vintage/seconhand pieces in styling

I was watching Sev bemoan the lack of large table in the last episode and the frothing over a new Christian Cole table.

I was internally screaming “stop looking for something that doesn’t exist in Freedom!”

Are they not allowed to purchase items outside of The Block dossier?

I get they have Block Bucks to spend, and Freedom is a sponsor, but as someone who loves mid century furniture - why aren’t they styling with some actual high end vintage items? Mid century furniture would fit with the “quiet luxury” brief perfectly. And I’d be more interested in seeing contestants source and style with vintage items than visit Freedom for the upteenth time.

Reveal “7 Days to Reveal”

Ok, this is an extraordinarily pedantic thing to check in on, but these titles at the start of Mondays’ episodes are wrong, right? They do the reveal on Sunday, start work on Monday. That gives them 6 days to reveal when they show the title. Am I missing something? Haha.

The bus stop was good AI

Hating all the AI slop, but the bus stop in the domain open for inspection on the Mondays episode was the best use of AI so far!

Am i the only one?

Budget breakdown

After yet again more harping on the girls and their budget I got sick of it. Other than their huge week on the bathroom their spending hasn’t been much crazier than the other teams considering their wins. I felt like last night they were punished for the room “looking expensive” despite it being in the same ballpark as other rooms. So I took matters into my own hands. I went through and got all the spendings and winnings including midweek challenges. Week one spending is an estimate, green is based on info we’ve heard and yellow is based on their guesses. Something that doesn’t make sense is on the recent episode they said the girls spending is around $135,000. This doesn’t line up with the spending they’ve told us each week. There’s no way the girls spent more than 20k week one because Chantel and Wyatt were slammed for spending just under 21k with the accounting error. Moral of the story the girls actually aren’t far off everyone else and it’s actually kind of gross of channel 9 to continue down this route while the girls get so much hate online.

Reveal Anticlimactic ensuite reveal

Easily the most boring bathroom reveal in recent memory, not a single space stood out. And that "this is so Mount Eliza" comment? Major cringe. It’s absurd to reduce an entire community's aesthetic to bland and boring, I mean white and bright minimalism. There's no way every wealthy homeowner in the area actually wants a house totally devoid of personality and creativity.
Any serious homebuyer dropping money on this Mickey mouse construction has lost their mind.
What's the budget again? 300K plus prizes (and prize money)? For context, my niece bought an apartment in Queens, NY this year. Average neighborhood. One bedroom. Basically redo the whole apartment (walls intact) and with material, the total cost was 130K USD.

Don't know if it's called a lounge but did houses 4 or 5 get approval to build on the roof?

The Block is basically MAFS with waterproofing

Remember when the drama on The Block was a contestant discovering their floor wasn’t level at 11pm?
Now we’ve got contestants living together to manufacture fights, AI-generated fever dreams every five minutes, influencer casting, $3m houses nobody normal can afford and 45 minutes of drama for 90 seconds of actual renovating.
I don’t want the show cancelled. I want the old Block back.
Give five normal couples $500k shitboxes, a realistic budget and judges who care whether something is actually built properly.
That would be infinitely more entertaining than another argument in a sponsored E&S kitchen.
I fear the Hampton East drama season drew in a lot of attention and now the producers are aiming for that.

Btw if someone wants to write “you’re watching trash TV what do you expect” or “turn off your TV” save your breath…this is a subreddit about the Block you’re welcome not to comment or be here.

I think we need new judges..

Am I alone in thinking this?

I'm finding that I don't like or agree with the judges more and more each week and why for the love of God is Shaynna wearing a ball gown to judge? She looks like a giant grumpy tomato.

We need fresh new eyes in the next season, if they do have another one.

Japanese Toilets....

In the last ten years I have probably visited Japan maybe 10 to 12 times.

Every toilet, except those in public spaces like railway stations, has been one of those automated robot toilets. They're easy to understand, they have pictures of the various jets and which part of your butthole/taint/balls they're going to squirt hot/cold water at.

I have never used one and I don't care to think about eating my dinner off Scotty Cam's immaculately clean butthole.

Please Australia, don't let The Block normalise robot arsewasher/dryers.

Hello! I’ve binged seasons 18 & 20 of the block Australia and loved them both but found the auction on s18 quite sad.

Any suggestions on which other AUS seasons I should watch please? Thanks

I’m from the UK and also open to hearing about any other franchises people recommend, thank you ❤️

Spoilers in 'coming up next week' edits! Spoiler

Honestly, if the editors are going to show us that the contestants finished rooms in the 'coming up', why would I watch the week to see if they made it? We see on Sunday after the show, massive sections of the next reveal. Do they not have enough content to edit?
