I cut up my TRD Pro for a new front bumper

Maybe I am crazy... but so what, I decided to cut apart my 70k TRD Pro for fun!

I decided I wanted a facelift on the truck and needed to do something new, I did some research and found Backwoods Adventure Mods was running some sweet bundle deals with apparently their new 12k winch included with the Hi-Lite Overland Bumper. So I figured F*** it why not cut the thing up for fun, so I dropped it off to a local shop with the bumper and let them go crazy.

It is a pretty sweet bumper and it didn't seem too hard to install. I cut off about 40lbs in the front and the new bumper came in at about 82lbs with steel and aluminum. I definitely liked that they were running nice deal too so I got a winch even though I have never used one in my life. It came with full synthetic line which I thought was pretty cool.

I was really hesitant to cut the bumper up especially considering I bought a $70k Tacoma TRD Pro but life is way too short to live cautious so I decided full send and sent her under the knife. idk about you but I am happy with the way it came out, which is good because there is no going back now.

What y'all think?

Hi yall,

My lease ended on a sedan and I was looking to get a wagon like volvo v90 to haul stuff (I am a leather artisan) and all of the sudden, alI thought of a truck instead of a car… an odd choice, I know, but without overthinking I just went for it. I was torn between a TRD and an SR5. So i test drove both and SR5 was smoother on the road, less bumpy.

I live in sunny California and I don’t really plan on going off road, so a 2WD was a better option since it consumes a little less fuel.

Anyway, I ended up getting a Tacoma with the black appearance package and an underground color. Had to ride a train to San Diego to pick up this bad boy.

What are your Thoughts? Any ideas on the useful accessories I should be looking into buying?

I think she needs running boards.

I'm just short enough that running boards might be nice. I'm also not getting any younger(60). My wife also gets black marks on the back of her calves from road oil and dirt at the bottom of the door frame.

I'm not going to be doing any hard-core off-roading, so I don't need rock sliders. What do you guys have.

First Truck is this good?

Been wanting to get a truck for a long time and after much searching determined that one the most, if not the most reliable, versatile on the market was a Tacoma, I bought one.

I think it looks nice. Can I join you?

Rear floor vent extenders

Someone posted last week about the floor vent extenders, and I thought that was a great idea. Those weren't long enough though, and I wanted them directed upwards so here's my version. These are on my '15 OR, but I test fit them on my colleague's '23 and the OEM vents are identical so they should fit most if not all 3rd gens too. Likely other Toyota models as well. Dimensions on the print profile: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3250708-toyota-tacoma-gen-2-3-rear-floor-vent-extender#profileId-3684054

You'll need to print in ABS or ASA, PLA or PETG won't stand up to the heat.

So far the 2 kids in the back approve, far less bitching on the way home from practice this week.

Update on Topper Tent

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Short answer: it’s pretty dank

Long answer: So far I’ve been pretty happy with the Topper Tent. It’s really easy to set up and take down, which is a huge plus when you’re trying to get camp set up without spending forever messing with everything.
My biggest complaint so far is definitely the amount of Velcro. There’s a LOT of it, and it gets kinda annoying having to deal with all of it every time. I’ll probably end up modifying mine eventually to make it easier to set up and take down without relying on so much Velcro.
As far as rain goes, the tent doesn’t seal everything out completely, but honestly neither does the Softopper. I had a little bit of water get in during some rain, but it was nothing crazy at all. Definitely wasn’t flooding or anything — just a tiny bit of water that I noticed. So if you’re expecting it to be completely waterproof, that’s probably something to keep in mind.
Overall though, I really like it. It’s easy to use, makes camping out of the Tacoma way more convenient, and for me the few downsides aren’t deal breakers. I’ll probably make a couple little mods down the road to get rid of some of the Velcro and make it even easier to use.

Do you follow the 10,000 miles per oil change for the 2.7L engine?

I have a 2023 Tacoma SR5 with the 2.7L with 0W-20 full synthetic oil. All my previous vehicles have been 5W-20 syntheitc blends and usually chnaged between 3k and 5k miles. I have no experience with 0W-20 and Toyota recommends 10k between oil changes or 5k for severe conditions.

What do you all typically do with oil changes? Does the 10k actually work or does it risk long term damage to the engine? It is just so much longer than I am used to I don't wan to damage my engine.

Is there genuinely a difference between OEM/After Market windshields?

I know this is kind of a dumb question, but is there genuinely a difference? The dealership is replacing my windshield for free after they chipped it during an oil change… but they will only do aftermarket glass for free. I have a 2025 SR5 living in SW Florida for reference.

The dealership called last Friday and said my claim got approved. Dropped off the car Monday to get repainted, they gave me a 4th gen Tacoma as a loaner, which drives soo smooth…..

They did say that the CSP Paint peeling program is set to expire 1/18/28 just a fyi. Im happy that I was able to get this approved and only took around 2 months.

Hello taco’s , finalky got my sr5 and loving it. Mine came with fabric seats, how are you protecting it? I do some farm work and deal with mud and dirty clothes, i was looking for some seat covers but didn’t find any convincing. Any suggestions please. Would really appreciate it. Could have gone with leather but out of my budget :(. Looking for something around $500 or less, easy install

Anyone dealt with super white paint recall? Dealer said they wouldn’t do it

Kept trying to get ahold of the manager at Kirkland (wa) Toyota until I just went in person. They eventually said they just don’t do it there. Isn’t that your job to figure it out? They said it was because they don’t have a body shop, but online it seems like other dealerships have just used external body shops. He said I have to find one that has a body shop but didn’t know of any in the state. I’ll have to call around since I’m sure that’s wrong. How has this experience gone for others?

Tacoma new tire advice

Thumbnail

Recently added a leveling lift to my 2nd gen Tacoma and looking for advice on rims and tires. I want that off-road look and I will be taking it off-roading but realistically 90% of the time is paved road driving. I am worried about MPG so nothing too aggressive or big I was thinking.

For info it's 2.5" in the front 1.5" in the back. The tires I have now are 31" tall 17" rims tra sport tires. The stock tires were 30 I believe.

I was thinking some black rims and maybe 32s or 33s I like the space in between because it makes it look taller then it is and the black would be cool with the green but any sort of advice is welcome, even if opinion is to keep same size or rim or anything.

What do you guys look for when upgrading the factory radio on a Tacoma?

Upvotes

Hey Tacoma owners,

I'm curious what everyone thinks about upgrading the factory head unit on a Tacoma.

For those who have replaced their factory radio, what matters most to you?

1. Sound quality
2. Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto
3. Keeping the factory backup camera
4. Keeping steering wheel controls
5. Better screen / larger display
6. Easy plug-and-play installation

I'm especially interested in hearing from 2nd- and 3rd-gen Tacoma owners.

What did you upgrade to, and what do you wish you had known before replacing the factory radio?

Tacoma 2022 timing cover reseal concerns

Hey Team,

At my 70k service appt, the dealership mentioned that I needed to get my system resealed due to a timing cover leak. We found out that its covered by the extended warranty which was great, so we moved forward with the repairs.

I have been reading past posts about this issue and am getting concerned that I might be having more issues due to the repair 🙃 what things do I need to be on the lookout for? Thank you!
