6 Days Late, On August 25th, 2005 around 10 AM, 21 Years Ago, Norfolk Southern 4640 pulling a 2 Car Operation Lifesaver Special going West hit a Flatbed Truck at the Cicero Riggs Rd Crossing in Cove City, NC.

The camera that captured the crash was on the noise of the locomotive, outside the cab. The video from the camera started 1.48 Miles from the crossing. When the impact happened, the camera moved slightly to the right.

The Tractor part of the Truck, separated from the Flatbed Trailer and both were pushed off to the side of the tracks suffering minor damage, put stayed mostly intact.

It's unknown if the Truck Driver was injured or why the truck driver didn't stop at the crossing, everyone on the train was uninjured.

Norfolk Southern 4640 only had little damage to its front hand railings and front coupling.

Norfolk Southern 4640 was repaired and returned to service until 2014, when it was rebuilt into a GP59E and renumbered to 4658, it's still around today.

4 Days Late, On August 25th, 2021 at 5:08 PM, 5 Years Ago, Canadian Pacific 8737 with Union Pacific 5525, Canadian Pacific 8040, Canadian Pacific 8833 and 117 Cars going East going 11.5 MPH, Ranaway and collided with the locomotives from stopped Union Pacific 8264 with Union Pacific 5497, Union Pacific 793 and around 100 Cars going West and then Canadian Pacific 8737 hit and derailed TTZX 862066, the 27th Car from stopped BNSF 5959 with BNSF 9291 going East at CP Division St in St. Paul, MN.

No one was injured.

The cause was improper handing of the Trains air brakes by the Engineer of The Canadian Pacific Train. No PTC was also a cause of the collision.

All the damaged Canadian Pacific and Union Pacific Locomotives were repaired and returned to service, with The Canadian Pacific engines being repainted into CPKC colors after 2023.

8 Days Late, On August 21st, 2023 around 5 PM, 3 Years Ago, BNSF 5327 with BNSF 5041 both C44-9Ws, pulling a Mixed Freight Train going South East hit a Lowbed Truck and derailed on the Airport Blvd Crossing in Iberia, LA.

The Truck turned off W Old Spanish Trail, LA-182 on the left of the picture and got stuck, The Acadiaca Regional Airport is to the right out of frame. 2 People on the left took video of the collision and dust from the crash.

Both Locomotives, along with 20 Cars, 7 Grain Cars, 10 Hopper Cars and 3 Tanker Cars derailed when BNSF 5327 jumped over the Flatbed, pushing it to the side and bending the rails of the track out of place. BNSF 5327 stayed upright, uncoupled from the rest of the Train, BNSF 5041 almost fell over on its left hand side, but also still upright with the cab leaning to the right of the tracks, the first 3 Grain Cars fell over on their right hand side, while the other cars piled up right after the crossing.

The Train Crew, Truck Driver and nearby witnesses were uninjured.

LA-182 was Closed until August 25th, 2023, when the wreckage was cleaned up.

BNSF 5327 and BNSF 5041 were repaired and returned to service, with BNSF 5327 having the scars on the noise from that day.

BNSF 5327 caught on fire on January 1st, 2025 South of Athol, ID, No injuries, I'm not sure what happened to the engine after that. BNSF 5041 was last seen on June 1st, 2025 in Sauk Rapids, MN.

Not much information exist about this derailment and it seems to be forgotten about, if anyone knows anything else about this derailment or if I forgot something, please let me know.

5 Days Late, On August 17th, 2014 at 2:28 AM, 12 Years Ago, Union Pacific 9707 with CSX 4716 pulling 86 Cars going South going 45 MPH collided with Union Pacific 5070 with Union Pacific 4530 pulling 92 Cars going North going 35 MPH on a switch at CP-Y229 in Hoxie, AR.

Union Pacific 9707 left Dexter, MO on August 16th, 2014 at 6:31 PM.

Union Pacific 5070 left Little Rock, AR on August 16th, 2014 at 10:57 PM.

Fun Fact: Union Pacific 9707 was reasontly repainted.

All 4 engines derailed, 11 Cars from Union Pacific 9707 and 14 Cars from Union Pacific 5070 also derailed. One Tanker Car from Union Pacific 9707 caring alcohol caught on fire.

I'm not quite sure how the trains collided, but neither trains went into emergency braking.

Union Pacific 9707 was almost completely destroyed and went on its left side while CSX 4716 stayed upright next to the wreckage.

Union Pacific 5070 and Union Pacific 4530 fell on their side with the cab of Union Pacific 4530 suffering fire damage.

500 people within a 1.5 mile radius of the derailment were evaluated as a precaution.

The Engineer and Conductor from Union Pacific 9707 died in the crash, while the Engineer and Conductor from Union Pacific 5070 suffered Serious injuries.

The cause of the collision was the crew of Union Pacific 9707 passed a red signal because the crew fell asleep in the cab and The Engineer had Sleep Apnea.

All 4 engines and all of the derailed cars were deemed totaled and were scrapped.

5 Days Late, On August 16th, 2024 at 3:05 PM, 2 Years Ago, A CSX Mixed Freight Train with 3 engines numbers unknown, going South East from Dayton, OH, got hit by a stolen pick up truck involved in a police chase at W Linden Ave Crossing in Miamisburg, OH.

As of 2025 this is still an open case and this is what I was able to find.

The police chase started at 10 AM in Warren County, OH as a failed traffic stop and possible 2 missing kids investigation. The police lost the suspect, Johnathan Brown for awhile until 2 PM, when the truck stopped on Austin Blvd over the I-75, then took off towards Miamisburg when a stand off happened on the Linden Ave Bridge next to the tracks between 2:40 and 3:05 PM, parked cars around the Crossing, Bridge and Depot got out of the area when the chase stopped on the bridge.

10 Police Cars from OSHP, Montgomery County Sheriff, Miamisburg PD, Kettering PD and Miami Township PD were involved. One of the police cars was hit by the truck during the chase, none of the officers were injured.

When Johnathan heard the train coming, he got back in the damaged truck and took off on the rims towards the train. The truck collided with the second car of the train and took out a crossing box on the left. The Train came to a stop 1 minute after the collision and stopped around 40 Cars from the crossing.

Johnathan Brown only had minor injuries, but refused to surrender, resulting in another stand off from 3:06 PM to 6:30 PM. During the stand off, the train moved forward 4 Cars from the crossing, the train crew, who was uninjured was told to stay on the train until the 3 hour stand off was over. 3 SWAT trucks eventually got Johnathan out of the wrecked truck and he was arrested.

Johnathan Brown was charged with Felonious assault on an Officer, Failure to comply, Interference with train operations and More, a total of 6 charges. We still don't know if Johnathan will face all charges.

The stolen pick up truck was totaled and probably held as evidence until it was scrapped. The second car of the Train only had little scratches and wasn't to badly damaged, the 3 locomotives were undamaged and returned to service.

4 Days Late, On August 16th, 2021 at 6:45 PM, 5 Years Ago, CSX 3429 with CSX 3130 pulling Empty Flatcars going North, hits a semi truck at W Sycamore St Crossing in Columbus Grove, OH.

The Truck driver was still in the tractor when the collision occurred, the tractor part of the Truck went up slightly and disconnected from the trailer and was uninjured.

The trailer was completely destroyed, being stuck on the front of CSX 3429 and then split in half after being dragged 250 yards up the tracks, The Train crew was also uninjured. The Train came to a stop 8 Cars from the crossing.

After the collision, while the wreckage was being cleaned up, the train slowly moved forward about 50 Cars from the crossing, probably to clear some of the crossings farther down the line.

CSX 3429 and CSX 3130 only had little damage, both were repaired and returned to service.

The reason why the truck got stuck on the crossing was because the driver was trying to turn right from the road on the right of the picture and got stuck on the high grade crossing. I'm not sure what exactly happened, this is based off the information we have.

On August 12th, 2019 at 5:09 AM, 7 Years Ago, CSX 736 with 109 loaded refuse cars, 67 empty cars and DPU 94th place, CSX 3107 going West going 9 MPH, the pictures from, collided with CSX 477, CSX 3005 and 110 Cars loaded with frac sand going East going around the same speed, seen in the picture in Carey, OH, west of the Hwy 3 Crossing.

CSX 736, 4 Cars with refuse from the Westbound Train and 21 Hoppers 6-26 from the Eastbound Train derailed.

The Engineers from both Trains only suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the collision was the engineer of CSX 736 didn't stop at CP Springs Signal, due to the effects of alcohol and there was no PTC installed on the line.

CSX 736 was totaled and scrapped along with the derailed Cars, The other engines were undamaged and returned to service.

What does everyone think of the drawing and did I forgot anything about this collision?

On August 11th, 2017 at 12:40 PM, 9 Years Ago, Canadian Pacific 9585 with 101 Covered Hopper Cars and DPU Canadian Pacific 8646 going North going 40 MPH, derailed on a bridge over the Roseau River and kink in the tracks in Dominion City, Manitoba, Canada.

22 Covered Hopper Cars 58-79 caring Corn derailed, 3 of the derailed Cars went pass the Road 10 North Crossing and some of the Cars caught on fire.

The Train Crew was not injured or anyone nearby.

The cause of the derailment was Thermite Weld on the West Rail Failed under the Train.

The engines were not damaged and are still around today, all the derailed Hoppers were scrapped and the bridge was rebuilt as a steel trust bridge.

In the picture, you can see the kink in the tracks after the bridge. What does everyone think of the drawing and is there anything I forgot about this derailment?

2 Days Late, On July 29th, 2024 at 4:41 PM, 2 Years Ago, BNSF 7917 going East going slowly with 2 BNSF engines and 1 Ferromex locomotive numbers unknown, collided head-on with unoccupied BNSF 5277 with Grain Cars in a yard next to Jose Luis Revilla and Ramon Aleazar Streets in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.

The engines had little damage and didn't derail, only 1 Grain Car behind BNSF 5277 was crushed when the collision occurred. The crew on BNSF 7917 was not injured or anyone else nearby.

The cause was both crew members on BNSF 7917 were on their phones, not paying attention to the tracks in front of them, until BNSF 5277 came into view.

All the engines were repaired and returned to service.

The Crash was also captured by a security camera on a radio tower on the left, out of frame from The Forward Facing Video Camera on BNSF 7917.

There's not much information about this incident. If anyone knows anything about this or what the numbers of the other engines were, please let me know.

2 Days Late, On July 29th, 2020 at 6:06 AM, 6 Years Ago, Union Pacific 7390 with UP 7892, UP 3056 and 97 Cars going North going 23 MPH, going over the South End of a bridge over Tempe Town Lake and Rio Salado Parkway in Tempe, AZ.

12 Cars between Cars 48 to 60 derailed, 5 of them were DOT-111 Tank Cars, 2 of them caring Cyclohexanone, 2,200 gallons of it spilled onto the Parkway, but didn't caught on fire or go into the lake, one of the cars hit a support structure causing the bridge to collapse and one of the Lumber Cars caught on fire, spreading to the other derailed cars and the bridge, but not the tank cars.

The crew on UP 7390 was uninjured and only one Firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. It took several hours to put out the fire.

The cause of the derailment was a Broken Rail on the bridge about 30 feet from the steel bridge seen in the picture.

The picture is representing the view from The Forward Facing Video Camera on Union Pacific 7390 at 6:05 AM, going over the bridge, 1 minutes before the crash. Cameras on a Light Rail Train going over a separate bridge on the right of the picture, captured the fire after the derailment.

All 3 engines were undamaged and are still in service today, the derailed Cars were scrapped and the bridge was rebuilt and is still there today.

If I forgot anything about this derailment, please let me know.

On July 31st, 1940 at 6 PM, Pennsylvania Railroad Doodlebug GEW275a 4648 was going South from Houston, OH to Akron, OH with 46 Passengers, a Engineer, Conductor and Brakemen, collided head-on with A Pennsylvania Railroad Mixed Freight Train going North from Columbus to Cleveland, with 2 I1-SA Class 210 Decapod Steam Locomotives 4454 and 4533 pulling 74 Cars, at Front St Railroad Crossing near Cuyahoga Falls, OH, at a combined speed of 55 MPH, pushing The Doodlebug 300 feet back down the tracks and starting a massive fire.

The 3 crew members from The Doodlebug jumped off before the collision, suffering minor injures, but survived, 43 passengers died in The Doodlebug, mostly from the fire. A driver from a car waiting at the crossing was also injured when something from the collision went through their windshield, The crew on The Freight Train were uninjured.

The reason why The Doodlebug didn't stop at Sliver Lake siding was because The Engineer was under the influence of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, due to the fumes from the gas engine of The Doodlebug.

Doodlebug 4648 was scrapped after the wreck, The Steam Engines were repaired and returned to service until 1957 when they were retired and cut up. Only one still around today is 4483 in Hamburg, NY, 3 Pennsylvania Railroad Doodlebugs are still around, OEG350 4662, OEG415 4666 and OEG415 4668.

The Line where the accident occurred is now completely abandoned Since the early 2000s.

This is Part 2 of a post I made last year. 10 Days Late, On July 21st, 2012 at 3:30 PM, 14 Years Ago, BNSF 9797 pulling a Empty Coal Train with BNSF 6187 at the rear, crossing a diamond was hit by KCS 4667, with KCS 3913, KCS 4581, KCS 4580, TFM 1609 pulling Boxcars, Near Arcadia, KS, Barton County, MI.

The crew on BNSF 9797 were uninjured and the crew on KCS 4667 jumped off before the crash, only suffering minor injures.

The reason why the crash occurred was because The crew of KCS 4667 didn't noticed the red signal in time.

14 Days Late, This crash is also known as The Picnic Disaster to The City of Philadelphia or to Montgomery County Pennsylvania, The Camphill Disaster. Also, one of the first train collisions.

On July 17th, 1856 at 6:18 AM, Two North Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Trains, One called The Picnic Special and the other a Local, collided head-on near Philadelphia, PA, between Camphill Station and Present Day Crossing of The Morrisville Line, Over The Bethlehem Branch/The Lancedale Doylestown Line owned by SEPTA. The Explosion from the crash could be heard 5 Miles away.

The Picnic Special, going West had N.P.R.R. 2 - The Shackka Maxon with Engineer Henry Harris and 1,000 passengers, mostly Children. Running 23 Minutes Late.

The Local, going East had N.P.R.R. 3 - The Arg Amino with Engineer William Vasatona and 20 Passengers. Coming from Edgehill Siding, Abingdon Township.

60 People died, mostly Children, Including Engineer Henry Harris, 100 More were injured.

Engineer William Vasatona was uninjured, but after the accident, after returning to Philadelphia, he took his own life thinking he was responsible, which he wasn't.

The cause of the collision was Engineer Henry Harris Didn't use The Timetable or Telegraph to let the station masters or the other train know where he was and how late he was.

Both Steam Engines were rebuilt, The Shackka Maxon was renamed Delaware, later known as Fittion Reading 2, it was scrapped in 1901. The Arg Amino was renamed Lehi, until it was retired and cut up in 1881.

The current location of this collision is between Amber Station and Wissahickon Station Near East Falls, PA.

14 Days Late, On July 16th, 2013 at 1:20 AM, 13 Years Ago, Union Pacific 7276 with UP 6536, UP 6707 with 51 loaded cars and 28 empty cars going North going 40 MPH, went through a misaligned switch onto a spur track and collided with 12 standing Freight Cars.

All 3 Locomotives and 15 Cars, along with 9 Cars from the spur track derailed. All 3 crew members in UP 7276 only had minor injuries.

The reason why the switch was set to the spur track was because the Brakemen of Union Pacific 2327, a train that went through the switch at 12:34 AM, forgot to reset the switch, also the line was Unsignal Territory.

All 3 engines were deemed totaled and were scrapped.

The pictures are from The Forward Facing Video Camera on Union Pacific 7276, the first picture was right before the train went into the siding and the second picture is from after the crash, the engine upside down facing the opposite direction.

21 Days Late, On July 9th, 2009, 17 Years Ago, in Canton Township, MI, A Westbound Amtrak Train with 170 Passengers going from Detroit to Chicago hit a Black Sedan going North that tried to beat the train across the tracks and was dragged about a mile down the tracks from the crossing.

Neither the Crew or Passengers on the train were injured, however, 5 teenagers in the car died on impact.

The crash was captured on a nearby security camera and a camera on Amtrak 128, the lead locomotive.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the 5 teenagers who died and their families.

If there's anything about this incident I forgot to mention, please let me know.

The Train in the picture was a KCS Rock Train, Seen in the picture, with 2 engines, KCS 4610, KCS 4787 with 50 loaded Rock Cars going 23 MPH going South, rear-ended a stopped Southbound KCS Freight Train with 54 loaded cars and 32 empty cars and 2 locomotives, KCS 4623 at the rear, the engine the pictures from and a unknown engine at the front.

None of the engines or Rock Cars derailed, only had little damage and only 30 Freight Cars derailed.

No one on either Train was injured.

The cause of the rear-end collision was the crew of KCS 4610 failing to comply with restricted speed where they were supposed to stop.

Other causes was equivalent not in connection with a block or interlocking signal and the crew on The KCS stopped Freight Train had 2 hours of sleep before going on duty and were asleep in the cab when the collision occurred.

I'm not sure if I'm saying the cause of the collision right, but this is from what I was able to find.

KCS 4610, after being repaired and repainted, it was involved in another incident, where it hit car in Wauwatosa, WI, On Oct 21st, 2025.
