Train Incident Norfolk Southern Operation Lifesaver hits Flatbed Truck in Cove City, NC.
6 Days Late, On August 25th, 2005 around 10 AM, 21 Years Ago, Norfolk Southern 4640 pulling a 2 Car Operation Lifesaver Special going West hit a Flatbed Truck at the Cicero Riggs Rd Crossing in Cove City, NC.
The camera that captured the crash was on the noise of the locomotive, outside the cab. The video from the camera started 1.48 Miles from the crossing. When the impact happened, the camera moved slightly to the right.
The Tractor part of the Truck, separated from the Flatbed Trailer and both were pushed off to the side of the tracks suffering minor damage, put stayed mostly intact.
It's unknown if the Truck Driver was injured or why the truck driver didn't stop at the crossing, everyone on the train was uninjured.
Norfolk Southern 4640 only had little damage to its front hand railings and front coupling.
Norfolk Southern 4640 was repaired and returned to service until 2014, when it was rebuilt into a GP59E and renumbered to 4658, it's still around today.
