Newbie Needing Help Tips for Beginner

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to tufting and am enjoying making pet portraits. These are my first 4 tries... please could you guys give me tips to improve!

I think the part I've found trickiest so far is the outline on the Spaniel (yellow background) and defining the pointy shapes well.

Any and all advice would be appreciated!

Looking pretty good. You can make these ones pop a little more by trimming and carving them.

The only thing I personally would change during the tufting process is to make the exterior black outlines thicker. Only because I like a chunky outline.

Adding to this, I'd thicken up all the outlines. Also, whet doing those small details like the eyes, the bright spot on the nose, etc. I find it helps to outline every section of the rug in its color first, double outline if possible. Then fill in the smallest sections first and the bulk of the color last.

Outlining each section, and doubling up that line thickness will make the carving much easier, and the sections will standout quite a bit cleaner.

Carving in between colors can help you make thinner lines pop out more with having to have a big thick border

Tuft closer. Your gaps are large enough for me to distinctly see your lines.
