Survivor is coming to UBC this term in the form of a fanmade game! Whether you are a lifelong Survivor fan or you've never heard of it at all, you are welcome to apply. Casting has just opened up for our seventh season, themed around Arthurian Mythology!

What will this look like?

Throughout the course of the game you'll have the opportunity to compete in a variety of fun challenges. The losers of this challenge will be eligible to be voted out at Tribal Council and eliminated from the competition.

Expect a roughly 2-3 hour time commitment per week for challenges and Tribal Councils, every Tuesday night. You'll also be meeting and strategizing with other players in your own time.

Who can apply?

You must be a UBC student. That is pretty much the only requirement.

Whether you're an incoming first-year or a grad student you are absolutely welcome to apply. If you are on co-op you may also apply.

Commuting students are more than welcome to apply as well! However, keep in mind that we often start in the evening.

When is this going on until?

You can expect the game to run for around 10 weeks ideally ending right before finals season.

Other Information

Is there a prize? Yes! The winner will take home $100. Please note this is just a fun bonus, the focus is on competition and fun.

Is there any fee we have to pay? To help cover the costs of equipment and the prize money, we do ask those who are cast to pitch in $15. However, don't let this deter you! If you would like to opt out just let us know, we know student budgets are tight.

Is this filmed? Yes! We film for fun and to eventually edit. It's mostly a bonus project so that the club has something to watch back.

Hey guys, I am a first-year engineering student currently residing in the New West area. I didn't apply for dorm because of some money problems and therefore I have to commute 1 hour 20 mins to and from UBC. How would I manage my time properly so I can get good grades without losing my soul?

EDIT: Camp management already escalated this. my managers did everything they possibly could!

EDIT: the reason why he is banned from campus is because of this specific incident.

This happened over the summer, but I needed to wait until I left the residence I was staying at to feel comfortable enough to post this.

A little spoiler: the individual I had reported about was a registered offender, which makes what I have to say next even more frustrating.

Over the summer, this older male in a maroon suit, who was not a student and likely on substances, came up to me and asked if I could give him a b job. off course I was scared and alone, so I just tried to walk away while he continued to heckle me and point at his groin.

simultaneously, I was working with kids at a summer camp on campus. The students were 15 to 17 years old and also began telling management (me included), that this same individual was calling them slurs, following them for a couple hundred metres and into buildings, and on multiple occasions, yelled that he wanted to have intercourse with girls under 18… and that they were the perfect age for his pleasures.

Obviously we called campus security and told the front desk of our residence to put in a formal report. Almost 2-3 days later, a student came into the office and reported that this individual followed them into the residence.

I immediately called campus security and 911, who both came to the scene 10 minutes after. I followed him during the call. The individual had run away from me, and fled down the wreck beach stairs.

Campus security showed up first. he was a southeast Asian looking male with big studded earrings and on a bicycle. Immediately, he did not ask how I was feeling, if the kids were safe, but instead, made comments insinuating that the kids were “asking for it” because management let them roam freely on campus. He said something along the lines of: “maybe we should reconsider if the kids should be freely walking around, right?”.

To clarify, this is a UBC-run camp. My job is to ensure that the students are being safe, however, it is not my job to keep them in their dorm rooms 24/7. The role of campus security should literally be securing the campus.

He then made a comment on how this camp should obviously hire more staff. There’s close to 40-50 personnel, but either way, I believe that’s not the answer.

he then asked why the students hadn’t called campus security themselves, and reprimanded me for not training the kids better. I want to make clear that it was in their training, and also that they have the campus security number on their name tag at all times. however, these are children who may not have experienced a hate crime or harassment before. It’s hard to think logically in these scenarios.

This, coupled with the fact that he gave an unfilled business card without his name was frustrating, when there was clearly a line in the business card for UBC security to write down the case number and the officer’s name. The police were also unhelpful, but I won’t include that part because it’s less related to UBC.

Additionally, the police officer and campus security officer both stated that my experience with the individual is not considered harassment, and would just be considered a “question”. It would only be considered harassment if the individual asked for s**ual favours multiple times AFTER I said no.

I’ll be sure to let these children know to wait for the next time they are harassed, tell this individual no, wait for the individual to ask again, and then call campus security.

Long story short, the individual walked back up the wreck beach stairs while he was talking with campus security, and the police. He was questioned, and his name was found within the registry for s**ual offenders. To be honest, I was so angry that I don’t remember if he was just an offender or specifically a child offender. either way, I am appalled at the fact that no officer had l checked in on anyone’s mental well-being.

Apparently I don’t have to blur their face, so here’s a video of the campus security officer making jokes with and having a nice conversation with the sex offender. I have the offender’s name, but I’m not sure if I can post it publicly.

this kindness was not extended to me nor the children that were racially and sexually harassed

Hi, I’m an international student from Asia, and I’m a bit nervous about the new semester, especially dorm life. I’m a gay guy myself and will be living in Walter Gage in a 6-bedroom unit. I don’t know if I should let my roommates know I’m gay. I want to be friends with them, and I don’t want to hide this part of me from them. But I have very little exposure to the social norms here, so I don’t know how they will react.

Hey everyone, kind of panicking and hoping someone's been through this.

I finished all my high school courses on time and accepted my offer to UBC. Ive been trying to register for the winter session, but when I checked my Applicant Service Centre just now, it shows this under my BA offer:

"Session: 2026 Summer Session - You are no longer eligible to register at UBC as you have missed a required deadline."

I think I may have accidentally selected Summer Session instead of Winter Session when I applied, without realizing it. I always intended to start this September.

I've already emailed [admissions.inquiry@ubc.ca](mailto:admissions.inquiry@ubc.ca) explaining the situation and asking if they can move my admission to the Winter Session instead, since I met every deadline I was aware of and always planned to start in the fall.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Is it actually possible to get switched from Summer to Winter admission after the fact, or am I cooked?

I think I know what the answer is but just need to try anyways.

I moved out of Saltwater residence on the 29th. I had a garbage bag of clothing I meant to take with me that I mistook for the other garbage at the end of the move out and so I threw it out in the residence waste room. Only realized today unfortunately. Is there any chance at getting it back ? I’m assuming no and to just take the L but wondering if it’s even worth it to ask? Guess I have no casual clothing anymore 😭

This has genuinely been the worst month of my life I am barely hanging on please don’t make fun of me I know I fucked up.

I want to switch one of my courses into something that better suits my time, but there's no instructor listed on Workday. Why? (Sorry if this is a dumb question. Incoming first year)

I am located 2h away from UBC and my campus housing move-in date is on Sept 4th. I want to attend an event on Sept 3d, and I thought it makes sense to bring my luggage and spend the night on campus instead of heading back, and forth again the next day. I tried to rent a one night room in pacific spirit hostel for $100 but no rooms are available on that day. My other options? $250 suites or something. This is gonna be my first term, so I am not sure if there are other options that I am missing here. Any suggestions? Anyone have an available clean private room for <$100 a night and would like to host me 🫠?

Hi there - I’m coming in as a first year undergraduate student in Arts. I’m wondering how inconvenient/bad it would be for me to miss the first couple of classes after winter break (until Jan 7/8th) to join my family on our yearly winter trip to visit other family? I would miss the first three days.

EDIT: Also should I email my profs to let them know I’ll be absent? I don’t expect ANYONE but MYSELF to help me catch up, but I’ve obviously never been to uni and wondering what the best way to go about this is.

i just received an invite to apply to the wesbrook scholarships, but after looking into it they seem extremely competitive and i'm not sure if it's worth all of the work! i have high marks but nothing crazy, i've done lots of volunteer work and a bit of ubc club work over the years, and i got a super unique and competitive job this summer, but i'm still not sure if thats enough to win anything!

i'm also going into third year, and it seems that fourth-years and above are preferred?

any insight would be super helpful!! thanks :)
