what benefit does dropping all waitlists provide

I live on campus, talk with my friends occasionally, recently got a job, starting in September. Everything is going well, but I don't feel like doing anything. Am I lack vitamin D or something? Why do I feel so irritated?

Hey guys, I am a first-year engineering student currently residing in the New West area. I didn't apply for dorm because of some money problems and therefore I have to commute 1 hour 20 mins to and from UBC. How would I manage my time properly so I can get good grades without losing my soul?

Survivor is coming to UBC this term in the form of a fanmade game! Whether you are a lifelong Survivor fan or you've never heard of it at all, you are welcome to apply. Casting has just opened up for our seventh season, themed around Arthurian Mythology!

What will this look like?

Throughout the course of the game you'll have the opportunity to compete in a variety of fun challenges. The losers of this challenge will be eligible to be voted out at Tribal Council and eliminated from the competition.

Expect a roughly 2-3 hour time commitment per week for challenges and Tribal Councils, every Tuesday night. You'll also be meeting and strategizing with other players in your own time.

Who can apply?

You must be a UBC student. That is pretty much the only requirement.

Whether you're an incoming first-year or a grad student you are absolutely welcome to apply. If you are on co-op you may also apply.

Commuting students are more than welcome to apply as well! However, keep in mind that we often start in the evening.

When is this going on until?

You can expect the game to run for around 10 weeks ideally ending right before finals season.

Please note applications are due the 15th!

Other Information

Is there a prize? Yes! The winner will take home $100. Please note this is just a fun bonus, the focus is on competition and fun.

Is there any fee we have to pay? To help cover the costs of equipment and the prize money, we do ask those who are cast to pitch in $15. However, don't let this deter you! If you would like to opt out just let us know, we know student budgets are tight.

Is this filmed? Yes! We film for fun and to eventually edit. It's mostly a bonus project so that the club has something to watch back.

Hey everyone, kind of panicking and hoping someone's been through this.

I finished all my high school courses on time and accepted my offer to UBC. Ive been trying to register for the winter session, but when I checked my Applicant Service Centre just now, it shows this under my BA offer:

"Session: 2026 Summer Session - You are no longer eligible to register at UBC as you have missed a required deadline."

I think I may have accidentally selected Summer Session instead of Winter Session when I applied, without realizing it. I always intended to start this September.

I've already emailed [admissions.inquiry@ubc.ca](mailto:admissions.inquiry@ubc.ca) explaining the situation and asking if they can move my admission to the Winter Session instead, since I met every deadline I was aware of and always planned to start in the fall.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Is it actually possible to get switched from Summer to Winter admission after the fact, or am I cooked?

I think I know what the answer is but just need to try anyways.

I moved out of Saltwater residence on the 29th. I had a garbage bag of clothing I meant to take with me that I mistook for the other garbage at the end of the move out and so I threw it out in the residence waste room. Only realized today unfortunately. Is there any chance at getting it back ? I’m assuming no and to just take the L but wondering if it’s even worth it to ask? Guess I have no casual clothing anymore 😭

i just received an invite to apply to the wesbrook scholarships, but after looking into it they seem extremely competitive and i'm not sure if it's worth all of the work! i have high marks but nothing crazy, i've done lots of volunteer work and a bit of ubc club work over the years, and i got a super unique and competitive job this summer, but i'm still not sure if thats enough to win anything!

i'm also going into third year, and it seems that fourth-years and above are preferred?

Hi there - I’m coming in as a first year undergraduate student in Arts. I’m wondering how inconvenient/bad it would be for me to miss the first couple of classes after winter break (until Jan 7/8th) to join my family on our yearly winter trip to visit other family? I would miss the first three days.

EDIT: Also should I email my profs to let them know I’ll be absent? I don’t expect ANYONE but MYSELF to help me catch up, but I’ve obviously never been to uni and wondering what the best way to go about this is.

I recently accepted an offer to be provisionally admitted into econ and polisci combined major in second year BA. My one condition was to pass MATH101 in the summer. Unfortunately I didn't pass and this summer course completely cooked me. So there goes my offer. I don't know if I should give up on econ entirely, even though I really enjoy the subject despite my abysmal math skills. I don't know what my options are and VSE hasn't gotten back to me yet. What should I do if I want to pursue a polisci major instead and I've already completed course reg based on the combined major. Is an econ minor worth it?

I'm an OL this year and it's my first time doing this, so I thought I'd ask everyone what their favourite things their OL did in terms of icebreakers, games, activities, etc. that made Imagine less awkward. Or tips from returning OLs!

I am located 2h away from UBC and my campus housing move-in date is on Sept 4th. I want to attend an event on Sept 3d, and I thought it makes sense to bring my luggage and spend the night on campus instead of heading back, and forth again the next day. I tried to rent a one night room in pacific spirit hostel for $100 but no rooms are available on that day. My other options? $250 suites or something. This is gonna be my first term, so I am not sure if there are other options that I am missing here. Any suggestions? Anyone have an available clean private room for <$100 a night and would like to host me 🫠?

I just moved to a place thats 30 mins by bus from ubc bus loop. Is that a normal commute or I should have picked somewhere closer ?

What if UBC completely restructured CS Co-op so that general CS students aren't eligible for co-op at all, and instead you have to apply directly to a separate, hyper-competitive ”CS Co-op" degree program from first year specializations where you need

(1) an A or A+ in math100, math101, cpsc110, and cpsc121

(2) as well as having to do a technical interview

(3) and having at least a 90+ GPA in order to get admitted into CS Coop

Similar to Eng Phys, this stream would require an interview + higher admission bar right from the start, capping the entire co-op cohort at around 50–80 elite students.

Right now, the standard co-op board is massive. If companies knew that being in "UBC CS Co-op" meant you were already in a hyper-filtered, elite cohort, top-tier tech companies would actively compete to post exclusive roles on SCOPE. Wouldn't making co-op an exclusive stream significantly boost UBC's prestige with top employers?

Hey guys, I was wondering if any1's ever been in the position of updating their IG bio, or even linkedin for that matter because you are changing the degree you are in, but also you are graduating a year later as well. Ik ik at the end of the day every1 goes at their own pace, but this SPECIFIC feeling I was wondering how many ppl can relate to. Also, other than the ppl you have already informed, have y'all ever got ppl asking why/how?

I mean realistically, nobody's entitled about knowing what happens in your educational/professional life, but since you already have it out there, I feel like you shouldn't have anything that seems misleading IMO. What are yall's thoughts?
