Current students, there’s an important survey/feedback that was sent to you on Wednesday, 08/19, where the university is proposing increasing your mandatory athletic fee from $50 to $150 every semester. That’s a 300% increase by the way.

There are a lot of reasons the Athletics leaders will try to use to fluff up their cause, but here is the MAIN big reason: They want to pay their athletes, but they want YOU (the students) to pay them. While I believe that students should rightfully get paid through their work, it shouldn’t come out of the average student’s expense to pay them. The Athletics leaders should find another way (i.e. their donors) to do so.

Last day to complete the survey is Friday, September 4.

Hii! I’m a freshman and was wondering if there are any intramural sports available for the Fall 2026 semester that I could join. Especially soccer, volleyball, beach volleyball, lacrosse, frisbee; honestly any sport would be fun! I was also wondering where I could check for new intramural sports updates?

Also, I would like to know if I could join any existing sports clubs for fun cuz it’d be great to socialize. And maybe tell me where new students could connect with each other? Thanks yall!

My classes on Tues + Thurs start at 12 but my experience with getting there around 11:20 from last Tuesday, the lot was full, only opened up around 11:50ish and I was late to my first class. I’m unsure of how Thursday was as I was on a vacation. I just wanted to see what everyone else’s experiences are like with finding parking and around what times you get to campus and if that works out well for you (for any day really). It’s my first year here so I’m still getting a feel for the parking situations.

Aloha. As the title states I need “Contributes to: Hawaiian/Second Language/CultureComplete one option: 1) Four semesters of one language (202 equivalent); 2) Four semesters of culture courses (single culture group); 3) A mix of language and culture courses (4 courses); 4) A study abroad experience in Fall, Spring or Summer.” in order to graduate from UH.

I tried to take JPN101 but the coursework was too heavy and favored students who took it for 2-4years in HS. I am more focused on getting good grades in my STEM classes and I don’t really care about this req for my degree as I’m not interested in it. I was wondering if any of you had a good experience in other languages/cultures. Do you recommend trying to take 4 culture classes? Or is there any languages that were easy as a COMPLETE BEGINNER? I don’t think I could fit going abroad into my schedule because of the inperson STEM classes I need to take for the graduate program I want to go to… I did take 2 years of Spanish in HS but don’t remember a thing! It’s my first year at Manoa and I’m hoping to find a club that is active and does fun stuff, but I am not religious and the only ones I’ve talked to so far are christian fellowship groups, does anyone have any suggestions?

This is for an online course at a sister community college campus. The instructor for this course is basing attendance on the quality of weekly discussion posts, and so far half of the students posted this week have been marked absent. I know that there was a class-wide grievance filed against this instructor last fall for the same issue, but I'm not confident in it being ruled in the students favor since this behavior is still present.

The discussions posts consists of the student generating 10 questions based on weekly readings. The questions have to be unique, answered based on a Google search, similar to questions posted by other students in this week's post, or appear to be asking for the instructor's personal opinion. They also have to be well thought out and is a reflection of a good understanding of this week's reading material.

If a majority of the questions are not up to par, you will be marked absent for the week and there is no recourse to this. After six absences that is an automatic fail for the course.

I personally think this is overly harsh and not productive in a learning environment. What's everyone else's experience regarding this? Is this something that can be challenged with the school?

I am a third year transfer with no roommate, living on campus and having súper hard time making friends. I am 31 F biochem student. Any suggestions on how to break the ice or find older student niches?

I’ve been to Hawaii twice in my life, and I loved it both times. The second time, I was in Honolulu and the beach was a short walk from my Airbnb. It was quiet and empty, I spent most of my time there.

I plan on majoring in Theoretical Math and Linguistics. I also want to learn Ōlelo’ Hawai’i. I know the school is renowned for its environment studies, but I don’t plan on pursuing those.

My plan is to go to my local community college for two years for free, and then transfer to university of Hawaii At Manoa. Is this a good idea for me considering my goals?

Hello! I'm currently taking Beginner Filipino as a part of my grad requirement (CALL student). When we went over the syllabus my prof mentioned that we were automatically a part of the Katipunan Club, and participation of meetings are required for our grade. At first I didn't mind it at all until it was mentioned that these meetings would occur in the evening (5PM-7PM). I commute to and from school via city bus and skyline so I'd be coming back home really late which is pretty inconvenient for myself knowing how exhausting it can be.

Are there any other language classes that don't follow the same format as this one? I was thinking of replacing it with Elem ASL, but I would love to know any syllabus info, or just general experience from someone who's taken that class before. If anyone else has other class recommendations that don't require this specific issue, I'll gladly take those into consideration as well! Best.

Hey everyone! I’m currently looking at my options for finishing my nursing degree and could use some guidance from anyone familiar with the UH Mānoa nursing program.
To give a little backstory: I went to HPU straight out of high school. I was a bit naive back then and assumed that just getting accepted to the university meant I was in the nursing program—turns out that wasn't the case. I ended up stopping about 2.5 years in.
Now I’m trying to get back on track and had a few questions about UH Mānoa:
Program Reputation: Is the UH Mānoa nursing program generally considered strong, and what is the student experience like?

Admissions Cycles: Does UH Mānoa accept nursing students for both the Fall and Spring semesters, or is it only a once-a-year intake?

Transfer Credits: Since I already have a little over two years of college completed, will those credits count and shorten my overall time, or will I still have to start from square one with their pre-req sequence?

Accelerated Options: Does UH Mānoa offer an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program for people who already have college credits or a previous degree?

Hi everyone I am currently taking Elementary JPN101 with Tomoki Iwai sensei. She had great reviews on RMP and is obviously very knowledgeable but I am a complete beginner. I am a freshman and am already overwhelmed by all my other classes like chem161wL and don’t know how to keep up. Day 2 of class and I have no idea what is going on!!! She has a flipped classroom style which is making it extremely difficult for me to absorb the information and class goes by fast. There is not much guidance on pronunciation,handwriting, or grammar yet (esp as someone who has 0 knowledge on Japanese). There is reading/studying/homework before class every single day and I don’t know how I am supposed to balance all my work without suffocating. Is every Japanese101 class like this/teach the same curriculum? I am unsure if a professor change would be helpful. I am unable to take Woo sensei as my major required class overlaps.

I’m unsure if I’m just not adjusted to the level of rigor/stress that college offers or if I’m being dramatic. I genuinely don’t know how to teach myself a foreign language then apply it during class time as a person with no background. Any advice on this would be extremely helpful. Today I got ticketed (got to my car 2 minutes late, which is fine I get it), but they put the ticket under my windshield wiper, but the windshield wiper on my car is different and isn't supposed to be lifted on my car, if you force it up like a normal car it just snaps off the windshield wiper and now it's snapped off the wiper mount and now damaged, they just left it sitting on on the windshield off the mount.

Does anybody know who I contact to make a claim or who to contact to find out who was the attendant who is responsible for causing the damage?

I just started my freshman year at Manoa and have a three classes in lecture halls. I've never been in a lecture so I don't what's best way to study and be on top of work. My Chem 161 class is fast paced and I don't wanna fall behind. Any tips would be helpful!!!
