Hey guys I have a very very important question,

With census being on Thursday, we only have two more-ish days to get settled in classes and everything. Now for my question.

I didn’t sign-up for tuition protection, and I know that if I drop this class I won’t get that money back, FINE, but my question is if I replace the course with the same course just a different section/time, if that going to mess with my FAFSA and will it already be paid for or will I need to pay for the course again?

I've been seeing a surprising amount of students using sun umbrellas on-campus, and since I'm bad at remembering to put on sunscreen I was wondering whether anybody here had any experience with how convenient they are to carry around, recommendations on if I should get some sort of special one or just a normal umbrella, or other opinions on them

Hello, all.

I am asking this because I am going to be attending a convention in Downtown this weekend. I've already booked a hotel, but their parking payment rate is abysmal. Luckily, I already have a commuter pass (which I understand is not required to park over the weekends) and I intend to park in one of the available downtown lots. The hotel is a bit of a walk, but I figure it's more than worth it to save about $150 on parking, and since I have the parking pass, I shouldn't get dinged for parking there during the weekday evening. I will not be leaving anything valuable in my car, and honestly, I may not even come back to my car over the whole weekend.

My question is: Will the lot be safe enough for me to leave my car? Given the situation, are there any recommendations y'all have for me about where specifically to park (I don't mind a bit of a walk at all) and if I should actually check my car every once in a while?

Important Edit: It was kind of stupid of me not to include the specific hotel I'm staying at. I'd be at La Quinta on the Riverwalk, so about a 20 - 30 minute walk away from any given lot (I'm a pretty fast walker so I'd say more like 20 for myself).

I've been trying to print stuff since last week. I can't sign in to myutsa on my computer so I've been having to do it through the app on my phone. But I went to print something yesterday off my phone and that stopped working too. Nothing shows up. How am I supposed to print anything? Does anyone know if the computers in the library are any better for printing stuff ? I just want my readings -_-

What worries me most is how unsafe work feels under my supervisor’s increasingly erratic management. Critical research and decisions get delayed for months now, students are left working alone, yet personal errands are treated as urgent. The tone has spread, too, with more outbursts, harshness, and instability across the work environment.

I want to change careers so badly into either chemistry or math. But that would require getting a second bachelors or a masters eventually.

I work in business but am a more science oriented person. I love science!

Anyways, I’m trying to apply but am having a hell of a time. For both subjects it seems like by the time I get out of work by 5 and get to UTSA there will be no evening classes on a consistent basis.

I checked the search function but never see consistent evening classes to the point where I could finish a degree or make a career transition.

I’m looking for a new job but unfortunately am finding no luck as most of the ones in business follow this same sort of schedule.

Am I SOL with all this? Better I find this out now then after sending in an application and paying the fee.

Faculty in uproar after Texas A&M-Victoria implements mandatory in-person policy

Many professors live at least two hours away from the Gulf Coast-area campus and worked remotely for years, an advocacy group said.

A shift to daily on-campus requirements has Texas A&M University-Victoria faculty in an “uproar” at the start of this semester after years of remote work that allowed many of them to live more than two hours away, officials from a professor advocacy group said.

The new policy requires employees to work in person five days and 40 hours a week this school year, which officials said puts the campus in compliance with state law.

University officials sent an email in June indicating that all full-time faculty would need to be in person on the Victoria campus during the work week or need written permission to work remotely, representatives from the Texas American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers chapter said.

The university asked employees to confirm their “understanding and commitment” about six weeks before classes began Monday, which the advocacy group said wasn’t enough time for employees to make necessary arrangements.

Teresa Klein, president of Texas AAUP-AFT, wrote a letter to university leaders Monday expressing concerns regarding “overcompliance or misapplication” of state law.

“The timing of the impromptu mandate has left many faculty scrambling to rearrange their schedules to accommodate, negatively affecting their professional and personal lives and having a possible disproportional, discriminatory and disparate negative effect on female faculty and those with long commutes to campus,” Klein wrote.

The percentage of faculty affected by the rule remains unclear. President Christian Hardigree previously said 31% of the university’s faculty were the only people “in their zip code” when she began her role last year. She said, of the remaining faculty, 73% lived in the Houston metropolitan area.

Hardigree wrote in a statement to the Texas Tribune that the campus was welcoming a freshmen class 23% larger than last year’s and the students deserved faculty who were “present, accessible and fully engaged” in the academic life of the university. The school enrolls approximately 3,300 students and promotes a 15:1 student-faculty ratio.

“Our taxpayers deserve public employees who fulfill a complete workload,” Hardigree wrote. “Faculty work naturally includes teaching, research and service, and schedules may vary accordingly. But flexibility is not an exemption from accountability.”

A new state law passed last year, Senate Bill 2615, prohibits public colleges and universities from allowing “telework” for employees except in certain circumstances. The bill defines telework as a work arrangement that allows an employee to conduct “institutional business” at a place other than their place of employment during work hours.

Under the law, those in teaching roles are exempt if they are not full-time faculty members, on temporary research assignment, or the only classes they have assigned meet the criteria for remote instruction. The bill does not directly mention the number of days or hours that an non-exempt employee must be on campus.

Texas A&M University-Victoria, located about 120 miles from Houston, was previously under the University of Houston System, but the school joined the Texas A&M system on Sept. 1. Hardigree said the university communicated with faculty about teaching loads and the importance of maintaining a meaningful campus presence for more than a year as they stressed accountability and institutional excellence.

In Klein’s letter, she wrote that most other Texas colleges and universities were not requiring faculty to be present on campus for a set number of days or hours outside their normal teaching, research and office hour schedules, although some were requiring a specific number of days or hours on campus. She urged the president and provost to immediately rescind the policy.

I'm new to UTSA this semester so I'm not sure if this is normal but I submitted my ada accommodation paperwork a month ago and i have yet to hear back. I have been told my multiple professors that there is a 1-2 month delay in processing and that they can't legally offer me accommodations in the interim.

I looked up the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights and learned that the school is required to give me interim accommodations and process my request in a timely manner.

I don't want to come across as demanding but I also need my accommodations in order to be successful.

I have a chronic health condition and requested flexibility in my attendance and with assignments/exams.

My partner suggested I write a demand letter but I think that might be a little too much.

Does anyone have any advice or had a similar issue?

I like listening to people play instruments while I read/ study, and I was wondering if there is a place on campus where people usually go to practice?

So last year there was a piano in a McKinney (I think that’s how it’s spelt) hall lecture room. They randomly removed it one day and I haven’t been able to find any other private piano that’s also open for everyone to use. I know there’s the one in the student union and one upstairs from where the Panda Express is at, but those are way too public for me to play on. Does anyone know where there are other pianos that are private but open to everyone?(not a music major so I can’t use the practice rooms in the music hall)

I have him in downtown campus for American Politics and I genuinely cannot stand this guys class. The teachers assistant tries to run it instead of him, but she keeps getting shit wrong and he had to correct her. It took her 20 minutes to get through attendance because she insists on making everyone adhere to a seating chart. The guy talks SO quiet and SO slow and can't hear any student so the TA has to yell the responses at him. I want to kill myself. That TA fills me with horrific rage. I hate her.
