Yep, there are two groups that are called "Monkeys". The Old World and New World monkeys, for a long time it was thought that they were the most closely related to each other, and Apes were "cousins" to both groups.

Now it's pretty clear that Old World Monkeys are closer to Apes than either of them are to New World Monkeys.

So, what gives? At the very least, one must agree that the last common ancestor between apes and both kind of monkeys must be a monkey itself, so apes descend from monkeys. But also, there's not "evolving out" of a group, so apes themselves must be monkeys too.

This video of course has nothing to do with that, but I find this fascinating. Like how birds are reptiles and snakes are lizards.

Which is a massive stretch of a conclusion to make. An animal acting like or imitating humans doesn’t “confirm” the theory of evolution. An animal can imitate some types of human behavior without being closely related to people.

The statement “confirming the theory of evolution” almost seems like an intentional overstatement meant to get people to argue about it. In other words, ragebait meant to drive engagement.

Imitation and the mirror neurons that support it are the foundations of cultural transmission, communication, and empathy. It doesn't necessarily mean "high intelligence," but it doesn't necessarily mean low intelligence either. It's just a requirement for is to achieve what we have achieved as a species.
