Youth-led festival at Aberdeen University

If you are a student in Aberdeen you should know about a free arts festival run by young people -

WayWORD Festival is cross-arts literary festival in Aberdeen which empowers young people to celebrate new work and ideas, amplify diverse voices and break down barriers to culture in our community. WayWORD is part of the WORD Centre for Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen.

This year the festival will take place in the Cowdray Hall, Sir Duncan Rice Library, St Nicholas Kirk, and the Linklater rooms between 3rd and 11th October. Guests this year include Rosie Jones, Jenni Fagan, Ashley Douglas, Sara Sheridan, and a host of others from Aberdeen, Scotland, and across the UK. Topics range from fantasy fiction to puppet making, with theatre, music, poetry, performance art and exhibitions all included.

All events are free or low-cost. Visit www.waywordfestival.com to browse the full programme.

The programme is designed by young people and if that's something you would like to do then you can join our annual committee around January 2027 for the next festival programme.

Hi! Hope this is okay to post here.
I had a change of plans and can no longer use my hotel booking in Aberdeen for the night of 25–26 August, so I’m hoping someone else might be able to use it.

🏨 The Jays Guest House, Aberdeen
📍 422 King St, Aberdeen, AB24 3BR
🛏️ Double room for 1 night
🥐 Breakfast included
📅 Check-in: 25 Aug / Check-out: 26 Aug

I originally paid £98 and would be happy to transfer it for £70 (open to a reasonable offer).

The booking was made through Trip.com, and I’m able to change the guest name on the reservation. I can send the booking confirmation/proof of reservation with personal and booking information redacted, and I’ll also attach some photos of the room here.

Please DM me if interested or if you have any questions. Thanks!

Hi, i’ll be starting at the university in sept but i’m still yet to receive my CAS. I submitted my fee and my documents by 28th of july but still have not received anything from their end, i’ve been emailing them to no avail. Is there anybody else who’s also facing a similar issue? also how long do they usually take to issue the CAS and joining papers?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with Aberdeen short courses (Process/Chemical Engineering)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

I am about to graduate with MSc Advanced Chemical Engineering from Strathclyde University. While I am waiting for the final result (I expect distinction, as I marked around 80% on average), I am looking into continuing my education, but not feeling ready for a PhD yet.

As a result, I came across a few courses from Aberdeen‘s University, which seem to fit my interests and context.

The courses are online and delivered via MyAberdeen platform. This fits my schedule perfectly, as I am employed full-time.

I am thinking of taking these two starting 21st September:
Safety and Risk Management
Human Factors in Industrial Practice

And two out of the following three in January:
Advanced Process Control
Human Factors Engineering
Applied Risk Analysis and Management

Has anyone taken these courses, and if yes, what can you tell about them? Is the course quality high (Strathclyde was a mix of high-quality courses and low-quality, decade-old recordings and handwritten scanned pdfs), and most importantly, is it relevant?

The descriptions of these sound highly applicable to industry roles (HAZID, HAZOP, reliability calculations, etc.) and my expectations are no different.

Are other universities/companies offering similar programs that are better in terms of quality and relevance to industry?

TDLR: Has anyone taken these courses or knows more about them, or similar courses (from other institutions), or maybe can give some advice on generally continuing education after graduation.

Thanks in advance, your input is appreciated!

Looking for advice on finding a student tenancy replacement

I’m looking for someone to take over my Bronze Ensuite tenancy at Old Fire Station, King Street, from 5 September 2026 to 2 January 2027.
It’s £663/month including bills, and I’m covering £155 of the first month, making it £508 for the first month.

I’ve already advertised through Facebook groups, SpareRoom, Gumtree, RentQuicker and Reddit but haven’t had any enquiries.

Does anyone know of other places in Aberdeen where I should advertise, or any student groups where people might be looking for short-term accommodation? I’m getting quite worried as I need to move out of my current accommodation on 29 August.

Any advice would be appreciated.
