You gotta wonder why all those underhood items are rusty like that. Normally the hood protects that stuff unless you are fording the car through salt water or driving somewhere that uses salt in winter. This is a clue that the owner was not doing any preventative car washes to remove that salt at all.

I would be looking at underbody stuff to see if the body or rockerboxes have penetrating rust. Because if the topside is that bad, the underside will be way worse.

I have 30+ year old cars that do not have that kind of rust on them, even after being parked outside the whole time.

The rust that I could see underneath doesn’t look terrible, like just surface rust. I also wouldn’t worry about the rusty fasteners and brackets, as that’s typical on vehicles from snowy or coastal climates.

If there is no worse rust than what you captured on the video and the car is a good deal, then I would buy it, and then one day soon put it up on ramps and remove the worst spots of rust, prime, and recoat with a good spray paint.

The nice part is it’s on the bottom, so you just have to coat it well, but it doesn’t matter if it’s mismatched, bumpy, drippy etc. the rust may or may not re-form but in my experience with wheel well arch rust, that can take years.

It probably just sat for a few months in humidity , it’s fine unless the underside looks bad . If the bottom is rusted out that’s a bad sign but if not this car is as good as new from a visual perspective

I'm from Michigan and I feel like I'm being trolled.

None of the rust in this pic would be a dealbreaker.

What’s important is how the bottom of the car looks.
