Developer Shatter Flow is now available in Early Access on Meta Quest for $5.99! 🌀

Hey everyone,

It's finally happening.

After spending a very long time making, testing, changing, breaking, and rebuilding things, I've just released Shatter Flow in Early Access on Meta Quest.

You can grab it now for $5.99.

If you're seeing the game for the first time, Shatter Flow is a fast-paced VR action game built around shooting, movement, physics, and a whole lot of things you can smash.

The goal is pretty straightforward: blast through obstacles, dodge incoming hazards, keep your timing right, clear checkpoints, take on bosses, and see how far you can push your score.

I've also been experimenting with new mechanics during our playtests, including dynamic rope-attached obstacles, and we're planning to keep adding more as development continues.

That's actually one of the main reasons I'm launching the game in Early Access. I want to keep improving it based on how people actually play and what the community wants to see.

So if you've got a Quest and enjoy fast-paced arcade/action VR games, I'd really appreciate you giving it a shot.

And if you do play it, please tell me what you think. Player feedback will genuinely shape what I work on next.

Thanks for following along with me so far! :)

Question How on earth do you actually watch 8k content?

So for context, I wanted the best VR I could get my hands on that was accessible and landed on the Bigscreen Beyond 2. I then did some gaming on my linux pc and was blown away with just 2k resolution.

I found some SBS videos of true 8k nature footage (the files are MASSIVE) and I have never been more immersed in tech than I have with those images in front me. that level of clarity was unreal.

the problem is that deoVR, and a couple other apps I tried, all lagged out to 5fps when playing those files. When I streamed my desktop it seemed like it could play them normally just fine, but there was no app that could browse files from within the headset. is there really no good way of viewing video files in the fullest quality? did I just spend all that money for nothing is my real question

Discussion VR gaming engages my brain in ways I don't think any other activity can and I struggle to put words to it

I'm not a physically active person outside of semi regular gym sessions, never been into sports, and I engage with media in a very logical, transactional way. When I watch a show or play a game, I plan how I get my value out of it, adjusting that plan as I go. There's always a big fat wall between me and the thing, and I thought that was just inherent.

But VR... man, I took to it in a way that no one could have prepared me for in any way. There's not a wall, there's a veil. A thin, wispy veil. Every time I see people playing VR, they're engaging with it like it's a video game, like they have that big fat wall, they're trying to coax the hands in front of them like characters in the game that they sort of control. They never move with confidence and wait for their natural movement to sync with the limits of that particular game, they awkwardly hoverhand with a straight back. They're just... not in. But something about it just sucks me in and I immerse completely. No snap turning, no looking at my hands, no hesitating or awkwardness, just me being present and acting as naturally as the game will allow me, keeping the veil as thin as possible.

I remember the first time my cockpit shattered in Underdogs and genuine survival instincts started kicking in, or all the times I ended up surrounded without my preferred weapon in Battle Talent and just started improvising on pure instinct, or actually flinching away from a bullet skimming my cheek in Perfect Dark.

The flow state is so incredible when it hits. It's completely rewired my brain. I'm so excited to come home from work and see how thin the veil is today.

Question High latency meta quest 3

Upvotes

I’m having a problem with latency with my quest 3. I have tried all the video formats, tried different bitrates and graphics settings but nothing has fixed the issue. The latency give me a lot of stutters, over cities mostly.

My setup is Ryzen 7 5800x3d, gpu rtx 4070 ti super, ram ddr4 32gb. In virtual desktop i use high end setting not godlike and 72 fps. The in-game settings i also use high-end for VR not ultra. Here are some screenshots of the overlay of VD.

This one shows that I’m connected with an AMVR cable link and internet connection is via wifi-5, 5G aggregated link speed 866 mbps. I have a pretty strong and stable wifi connection.

I had some doubt about the wifi connection could be the culprit so i moved my pc in the living room to connect it via ethernet cable. It is the only place in my apartment where i have a coaxial plug for my modem/router. You can see on the screenshot below that it hasn’t change anything.

Is it possible here that it would have been better if VD would have used the cable link instead of wifi to stream to the quest 3. I don’t understand why it did that. According to the overlay it bypassed the cable link and used my wifi.

The only time i get normal latency and no stutters is when I’m looking in front of the plane and i fly in rural area.

So i passed the last week trying to tweak and play with the settings with no change at all. I even upgraded my CPU from a 5800x to a 5800x3d and it didn’t change anything, i think it is even worse! Any ideas or any clues please feel free to comment because now I’m lost.

Self Promotion Released a VR mod for the game Tasomachi

Hello

I'm back with a new VR mod, this time I decided to turn the game Tasomachi into a pure VR experience.

As always, I included 6-Dof, Roomscale movement, camera collisions & turning options.
This game do not really require motion control as it's purely "exploration" based.
I added some extra features thought ;)

Question Cyberpunk 2077 VR Mod - Hitching/Stutter

I installed the VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077 from https://github.com/dariulone/cyberpunk-vr-port and got it to work but for whatever reason the game hitches/stutters hard every few seconds that it runs. I was hoping someone has seen this issue and gotten it resolved for this specific mod or one similar to it.

Question Shadowman Remastered

Hi everyone, does anyone know if there are any plans for a VR mod for the Shadow Man Remaster? Something in the style of BeefRaider XR would certainly be a really nice addition. Is something like this even technically possible, or are there any engine-related limitations that would make it to difficult?

Question Debating getting into VR but I’m unsure?

Good evening

I’m looking at getting into VR and getting a head set. I have seen a few games that I’m interested in like contractor and forefront and I like the social aspect of it.

However. I wonder if it’s a bit of a gimmick as opposed to my PS5 and il use it for a bit before i ditch it? It’s £319.99 in the UK for the 128gb and that’s a lot of money for something I’m on the fence about.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I’d love it if I could trial before I buy it but I live in the countryside so it’s far away from any massive shop that might have a demo set up

Thanks

Discussion Question for those into tactical shooters from a dev (re: attachment mechanics)

Hey! We’re currently working on a new tactical shooter (COVR), and after showing our current attachment system in a recent video, we got a bunch of useful feedback that sent us down a bit of a rabbit hole.
So now I'm curious what people who actually play this genre prefer:

  • Do you like being able to fiddle with attachments mid-mission, taking optics on/off, sliding scopes on the rail, swapping things on the fly Pavlov/Zero Caliber-style?

OR

  • Would you rather have a fixed weapon setup that you customize before the mission and then commit to, more like GERONIMO?

I currently lean toward keeping the on-the-fly system because I like the physicality of it in VR, but we also don’t want to overcomplicate things just because we can.
We’ve already changed quite a few things based on community feedback, so this is exactly the kind of stuff we want more input on before we lock systems down.

Curious where r/VRGaming lands on this, and why. 🙏
