Discussion r/PCVR is now reopened! We made a place to talk about all the new VR modding & PCVR, because Discord isn't cutting it. No standalone talk!

Hi all, Lunch, Flat2VR & VR Dad here. r/PCVR is now reopened.

We wanted a central place where people could talk about everything related to PCVR and VR modding online, and discord is a closed garden a lot of people don't like. It's still the best place to get the latest VR mods and where modders live, but we wanted this information to be public and searchable online for modders & everyone.

Which is why we are reopening r/PCVR to the public!

Discussion Base station died

Unfortunately this has happened to me again. Base station worked just fine last week and I decided yesterday that i wanted to play. But the gods have decided against me.

I hoped that like the first time they’d replace it for me even though it was out of warranty. I guess this time I’m not as lucky and they told me no. And of course they are out of stock and everywhere else I’ve looked so far it’s a $80+ up charge.

Although this base station did last me 4+ years which compared to some is a decent amount of time. I’m just mad that I noticed it the day I wanted to play and not whenever it died.

Question/Support Valve index as a webcam

So i had my valce index plugged in when i was playing DnD with my friends and when i turned on my webcam in discord it started using my vr passthrough cameras which gave it this really cool fisheye effect for my webcam. However i was wondering if it was somehow possible to only use one of the cameras so its looks more normal instead of looking like you're looking through a vr headset

Question/Support Bad Frame Time and Stuttering With Valve Index

Post image

Nvidia GeForce RTX3060 with a 12th Gen Intel i7-12700F, 2100 Mhz, 12 Core.

The consistent spikes in frame time are jarring, this example is particularly tame but the spikes are sometimes purple, peaking the graph until I restart SteamVR completely. I had a few applications running at the time such as Steam itself, Standable, VRChat, Spotify, and Discord. Would this be a GPU Issue? It happens every time I start up SteamVR until I restart, where it usually levels out.

- UI and text overhaul, far easier to read in headset

- Map rebuilt for better performance and a higher quality look

- Hand calibration, so it fits properly across different headsets

- Options now save between sessions

- Broad performance pass and lighting fixes across the board

Question/Support What's the cheapest you've gotten a Valve Index for? (That actually worked)

So my Valve Index VR headset is starting to act up and I don't have enough money to buy a $400 brand new one, but everything works. My controllers work, I know the cord works because I bought a brand new tether from Steam. So I've been looking at eBay for secondhand headsets and I found ones that are $50 and claim that they work and I'm actually thinking about buying them. I'm okay with the idea of saving up, however I've gone through so many problems with this headset that I'd rather just pay for a cheap one. So I was wondering how is your experience buying a really cheap one?

Gameplay (Index Controllers) Anyone Play No Man’s Sky?

Post image

TL;DR: Go into the game, Set Movement Mode to Teleport. Can you steer your jetpack?

Almost a year ago, Voyager’s 6.02 was released, and with it a bug that broke jetpack directional control for me.

With Movement Mode set to Teleport, the jetpack is supposed to be steered in the direction the right controller is pointing. Since the bug was introduced, my jetpack only goes straight up and down. There is 0 ability to steer.

I have spent the last year trying to figure out if this is a “me” problem. Here are some of the things I’ve done:
Confirmed all Index firmware was current
Set SteamVR controller bindings to official default
Unpaired/re-paired both controllers
Uninstalled/reinstalled No Man’s Sky
Uninstalled/reinstalled Steam
Created a new Windows account and a new Steam account to rule out an account bug
Uninstalled/reinstalled Windows
Purchased a new PC
Purchased a new Valve Index and controllers

No matter what I do, the bug remains. I’ve narrowed it down to the exact release where it first appears. I’ve reproduced it across multiple PCs and headsets. I’ve filed at least 20 bug reports with Hello Games. I’ve commented on the experimental build posts on Steam. Yet it’s still broken a year later.

I’m hoping other Index owners can either help me make some noise, or give me some closure that I need to let this go and give up on the game.

Here’s my ask.

Go into the game, set Movement Mode to Teleport (Options->Controls->Movement Mode), and see if you can steer the jetpack by pointing your right knuckle controller in the direction you want to go. Drop a comment either way. At least then I’ll know if I’m just cursed or if this is a real bug.

Question/Support Index stuck in LHR BL / Watchman V3 bootloader firmware flashes successfully but won't boot.

Valve Index HMD Serial: LHR-539F205D HWID: 22154109 (Index HMD v21)

Bootloader: 1555018800

Current USB state: VID 28DE / PID 2301 LHR BL

lighthouse_watchman_update.exe -aw3 works.

Correct G55 application firmware: watchman_v3_app_20210615_v1623823641.fw

Firmware transfers completely and reports: "Successfully updated firmware." "Update completed but device reconnected in the wrong mode."

-Rw3 successfully opens PID 2301 but headset remains in bootloader.

Headset flashes red.

IMPORTANT: After being powered off overnight, the headset unexpectedly booted normally and worked for a while. It later failed again and returned to the same LHR BL / firmware recovery loop.

Valve Support has diagnosed the headset as needing replacement, but it is out of warranty.

Question/Support Any way to record the lens view?

I'm getting a weird graphical glitch on a game (Metro Awakening; double vision kind of thing), and I want to record it, preferably video but screenshot would be fine. The problem is, the bug isn't visible on the spectator view, which is what steam takes a screenshot of.

Is there anyway of recording the lens view itself?

I took apart my controller and there was one screw left. All 5 visible screws are already in there and the 3 screws under the electronics are in there.

Question/Support Any reliable places to buy 2.0 base stations?

TL;DR of my situation: I have tried to order the HTC 2.0 base station from two different sources and have been having the most frustrating time.

First was eBay: I was hoping to get a lower price, it got “lost” in the mail. Probably stolen. I was refunded.

Second was Amazon: It said it was going to be here Wednesday. Never came— said my shipment was “delayed” and I had to contact customer service. Now I have to wait an additional 3 business days for an update on a ticket.

Only reason I ordered it from Amazon was because the HTC website showed they were sold out— and I’ve never had this issue with Amazon before. I have been upset and letting them know it. I am debating getting a refund and waiting until they are available on the HTC website. Is this the best way to go?

I’m so frustrated and cannot believe I can’t get my hands on this piece of metal and plastic, let alone for the money I’ve dropped on both orders I’ve made.

Question/Support Blue Lights No Image

Got a replacement headset from steam for some out of the box screen damage on my OG headset. Replacement headset worked perfectly once then the screen never turned back on. No drop, no unplugging, nothing. No help whatsoever from steam, so I gave up and chalked it up to an issue with my mobo.

Few years later, all new PC, tested it all out and it worked great!… once… now same issue. No visuals but everything else seems fine. Pc seems to recognize it, headset gets no display or audio. If i turn on “Display VR View” it shows accurate tracking of the headsets movement. I tried right clicking the headset icon in the API and restarting but it causes steam vr to hang. Unable to quit it, I have to restart steam to be able to relaunch steam vr.

Drivers are up to date, this system is AMD, will try with my NVDIA system soon.

Am I SOL?

Question/Support Where to get index knuckles these days?

Accidentally broke my right controller due to a spill (mind your controllers when you're drinking and playing, folks). I can't believe how expensive Index Knuckles are these days. The problem is the controllers are so good I'm finding myself justifying the exuberant price. Does anyone know cheap sources for these controllers? Cheap as in not the inflated prices on ebay. The controllers were never cheap.

I imagine I'm just being wishful in asking, but I'm genuinely wondering.

Everyone selling their kits is charging the $400+ they're going for on ebay lately. Sometimes twice as much as when they were new. It's so frustrating because it proves there's still a decent market for steam to at least continue manufacturing the Index Controllers until the Steam Frame actually arrives. It's quality hardware.

I have a spare pair thank god, but I've kind of just soft-gifted it to my friend because he's my VR buddy so I'm reluctant to take the old pair back. I'm sending off the damaged controller to hopefully get repaired but we'll see what happens.

Question/Support Help setting up valve index

I just bought an Index second hand. Full kit.

Trying to set it up with a Tiger Lake era Razer Blade 17. The only way to get displayport out of that machine is via a TB3 to displayport adapter, and I can't seem to get a stable signal. Either the headset doesn't start up at all, or it tries and throws an HDCP warning, or it starts but is unusably full of visual artifacts.

Adapters I've tried include a Dell TB3 dock, a Cable Matters USB4 hub, and a Cable Matters USB-C hub -- the dual displayport version.

Any pointers? Am I doing something wrong?

Discussion Thrift store Valve Index w/o base stations - any way to test?

So I didn't know this valve index thing existed until 12 hours ago. Picked up an interesting looking heavy duty head set and 2 hand controllers at the thrift store, researched it a little on my phone, saw it went for a pretty penny, so bought them for $35 Cad. Figured worst case I could flip for parts untested for more than that.

Got home after work, researched it a bit more and realized what I thought was an hdmi connection was a unique break away link. Turns out I also needed a proprietary 3 prong cable to go between computer and the unit.

Thinking that it may have been donated together but got separated, went back to the thrift store and amazingly found it on the wall of cords for $6.

What do I do now? I still need a 12V AC adapter, but that's easy enough to get, main issue is that looks like I need base stations. Is there any way to test this without base stations? I'd prefer not to invest hundreds of dollars into base stations if the head set and controllers are no good.

I'm going to head back again tomorrow to see if lighting can strike a third time and have the base stations appear.
