Fruit trees

Why doesn't the city of Vaughan plant more fruit trees? Instead of the usual maple or oak. Why not Apple, cherry, pear etc?

It would be a mess to clean up when they fall and rot on the ground to become a wasp utopia. Maybe a liability too if people try to climb up to get fruit.

Good point ... Welp, I guess humans cannot EVER live in a utopia paradise.

(Just realized in any of the Caribbean Islands there are mango trees everywhere with insanely delicious mangoes. Have not noticed any wasp problem, but also the mangoes are so good that they don't stay on the ground for very long lol)

I can still see it working in parks on  grass fields. Not on boulevards though.

There are fruit trees around on public land if you look for them

Fruit trees are not plant and forget. They need to be pruned yearly and sprayed regularly with pesticides/fungicides to get any viable amount of fruit.

You want more coyotes?
Fruit trees bring little animals that bring coyotes

A lot of maintenance needs, then rats, bird excrement, wasps, bats, raccoons, coyotes, etc... Anyone who ever tended to a fruit orchard knows why.

They actually did plant wild pears along some streets, including in front of my house. Replaced with maples and oaks about a decade later for these exact reasons.

Ah so this could explain why they don't let us all have gardens to grow much of our own food, or collect rain water. Or have our own chicken coups for daily eggs.

What an insane trade-off for having abundant affordable healthy food for everyone.

Who prevents you from having a vegetable garden or collect rain water in your backyard? There's no bi-law forbidding that afaik.

Chicken coops are forbidden indeed (rats etc), a different story.

The government doesn’t want you to eat for free.
