VINTAGE MENSWEAR A whole Seoul summer in vintage - 20 fits, June to August 2026

Upvotes

Summer is finally breaking here, so before it all goes back in the closet: everything I wore through the Seoul summer.

A lot of it is vintage or period-correct repro - M-43 HBT fatigues, striped cotton tees, pique polos, cotton madras shirts, canvas boat totes and leather boat shoes. No technical fabric anywhere. Seoul summer is mid-30s C with humidity that never lets anything dry, and loose vintage cottons still handle it better than anything modern I own.

Happy to talk about any of the pieces.

SWEET FIND! Carolina Herrera Wool Coat

Found this blue wool Carolina Herrera coat while thrifting recently. I love it! It’s currently 100* F where I live… anxiously awaiting autumn so I can wear it in public for once 😂🍂

It’s from the 1980’s, but the style feels older I just can’t place exactly what decade. Reminds you a bit of Rebecca Rubin’s red coat, no? Any better opinions, please share!

1970s TGL Stockholm

I’m curious if there are people who know more about TGL than what is easily searched. I came across an amazing collection in Porto, but have never seen such a wide array of styles and patterns. In the USA it’s nearly impossible to find any TGL Stockholm pieces, from what I can find. I know they were only in production for several years (RIP)

I would love to see other peoples’ TGL pieces. I’m very interested of creating a catalog/document of as many patterns as I can.

Truly just curious what is out there and find so much delight in every piece of clothing. Thank you for humoring my request!

❤️

ADVICE PLZ Sockhop Advice round 2

I realize i a bit disheveled. I’m exhausted and didn’t feel like adding petticoat and makeup. But after some good education and feedback, I went today to find these loafers instead of the wingtips I had ordered from Amazon (which are delayed and I was able to cancel, as they now wouldn’t arrive in time anyhow!)

I hadn’t considered them since I don’t prefer the look. But with the rest of the outfit, I like them much more. I suppose that’s a good lesson to me.

I also had received comments that my skirt might be more alpine than sockhop. So, photo 2 is my other circle skirt , in case that’s better.

I believe I mentioned this in my last post, but I do also have a “poodle costume” (literally from a costume shop years ago). I don’t have saddle shoes, and I’d prefer to stand out a bit from everyone wearing the same modern costume; however it is an option. I would have to dig out out of my attic

A second pair of 1970s campus boots has struck the shoe rack. Suede and shearling this time, and the laces, oh the laces...😭😭

Blessed be the $20 boot gods!

Not sure on the exact ID on these but pretty certain they’re 60s navy uniforms in near mint condition. All from the same person although the tops have multiple ids on them eluding to uniforms being reused to multiple soldiers on different missions. Got all of this for $20. Love the fit on the pants.

Ignore that my room is a little messy, it's my first week living at this apartment. I got the dress on Poshmark for $32 and it's exactly my size and I'm so happy I found a cut dress from the 60s that isn't $100+ or not my size lol. No branding but it doesn't appear to be handmade. The jacket I got for $55 at a market, it's by Corral Sportswear Co by Jo-Kay. It's also a size S!

ANTIQUE CLOTHING (1920s AND BACK) Silk Velvet 1920-30s Care & Modern Silk Velvet Questions

Recently, I've acquired a few silk velvet pieces in different colors between the 1910-30s. I am not quite sure how to identify which are pure silk velvet or a rayon-silk blend. I've also been in touch with a few "silk velvet" manufacturers in Vietnam and China. Out of the ones that are honest, they affirm no one makes pure silk velvet and everyone that claims otherwise is lying. It's quite clear that if the price is relatively cheap in the $15-50 that it's probably a blend. I just seem to get stuck on the technical perspective as to WHY they cannot, or refuse to make it. I've been trying to investigate the process for creating velvet on Youtube but there's barely any content out there. If someone has any technical insight that would be lovely. I've also noticed some colors tend to be made more with rayon that others, as if certain colors from those eras were worn often by affluent people. These colors include pinks, burnt oranges, and greens but I could be wrong. I'd also like to ask how to clean dirty silk velvet. Some people mentioned using alcohol sprays, but would that be a good option for removing stains?

Identifying Features for Silk Velvet:

  • Black Velvet: silk velvet is so deeply black compared to rayon velvet which give a grey sheen in the light
  • Under bright light the silk should glow a neon or lighter shade of the color; if it glows very white it's likely a rayon blend.

SWEET FIND! Vintage Roby Sasson Paris / Via Bo Two-Piece Revolver Set – Jacket, Skirt & Belt

The stone roses used to wear viabo by Roby Season in 89 90.

Found these two separately on my daily search for 10 years to find any the band wore.

Had to buy them and get this wee band back together 😍😍

Rare original vintage Roby Sasson Paris / Via Bo (Viabo) matching two-piece outfit, believed to date from the late 1980s / early 1990s.

The set consists of:

• Cropped zip-up knitted jacket

• Matching skirt

• Original wide belt

• Striking red and black revolver / gun motif throughout

What makes this one particularly unusual is that I actually found the jacket and skirt separately from two completely different sellers, allowing the original matching outfit to be reunited.

Does anyone remember this wool jacket from Contempo casuals back from the '90s? Wore them with jeans back in the day but I guess you can wear them with wool or cotton leggings or pants. Is this style making a comeback at all?

If you know any information about this dress, please let me know!! I’d love to learn more💜

ADVICE PLZ Sockhop Advice needed!

Thumbnail

I am going to a sockhop on Thursday.

This is what I plan to wear, with the shoes in the second photo (brown and white saddle shoes).

I’m starting to overthink it and worried the brown and white may look too out of place with the rest of the outfit.

I also have a poodle skirt costume from when I was in high school - from a modern costume shop. It looks fine but it’s also very on the nose and I’d rather wear something authentic but also more unexpected.

I was happy with the outfit I had planned until I found out there’s a costume contest so now I’m overthinking things.

Should I wear this?
Are the shoes good or are the colors too much?
Should I maybe add a brown cinch belt to tie it together?

Any advice is appreciated.
