Back in the 70s, my dad wanted to get a boat and took the Coast Guard Navigation courses. (Bunch of hairy math that could melt your brain!). Anyway, it’s been passed down to me, has no value since any map app will tell you your location. What can I do with it?

Several weeks ago I posted a pair of ‘Old’ *No. 240 Starrett holding pliers. In the interest of those that still do work that requires holding workpieces by hand, I present another version of this is the ones with an adjustable limiting screw.

The advantage of this is mostly in a couple of areas. It limits how much release occurs when you loosen your grip. When closely adjusted, the pliers can be moved slightly on the workpiece without losing control of it.

This is also helpful when holding a piece while grinding or buffing and you need to move where your hand is positioned.

* The current No. 240 is a pin vise

I assume its for rolling smaller logs, but can't find anything that looks like it with my searches. I have 2 of em. no markings that i can find.

I recently acquired this complete workshop. Can anyone point me in a direction for learning more about it?
