Discussion & Feedback The entitlement over a flight setup is certainly odd

Post image

Apparently because this guy has flight gear and is into flying, he’s somehow more entitled than all us peasant pilots who don’t own a $500+ setup or simply don’t want to invest that much into one? Gatekeeping flying wasn’t something I expected to see before the game even released.

What even is this take? Other people getting interested in flying doesn’t somehow lessen your experience or give you ownership over the skies. Some people really do act like buying expensive gear gives them seniority over everyone else.

Edit: To clarify, I made this post because the comment was featured in a Youtuber's video, where the creator and many others agreed with the sentiment. I’m not reacting to some random comment I happened to find.

I have a full hotas and rudders. I use keyboard and mouse. Number 1 for full realism you would want a collective stick. 2. The flight is very arcade like. Full hotas doesn't make you better in this in any way shape or form.

13

u/Joverby 5h ago

yea same . also have full hotas minus pedals but plan on just using m&k. people are way over hyping the hotas, it is more fun though. also agree with someone else stating it will level out

6

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

It can "immerse" you more, but that is about it. Plus its a pain to switch between . Now tobi integration or a headtracker will be a game changer for sure.

4

u/RoninOni 5h ago

Yeah, mkb has a big advantage over HOTAS until they fix free look for it.

I’m going to use HOTAS (actually hosas) anyways for my flight sessions just for fun factor.

2

u/LaizureBoy 3h ago

Picked up a dirt cheap HOTAS as I've been interested for years for use in Star Citizen, but Wardogs made me want to get it. I'm complete dogshit on it because it's my first time using one, and I definitely won't be using it all the time, but I just think it'll be fun to use. Probably going to use it for transport and supply runs, because no way in hell am I familiar enough to use it while aiming mini-guns at anyone...

The practice range is gonna be my home for a few hours, that's for sure.

1

u/Joverby 4h ago

yea i just knew i would be able to be just as good if not better on m&k but like you said wont have to bother switching controls at all. can hop right out and start running / shooting. might try it eventually just for fun though but probably will save that for the flight sims

1

u/Select_Razzmatazz112 4h ago

I’d love to use my Tobii5 in this game.

1

u/Some-Lingonberry-211 1h ago

I want an excuse to buy one, because I haven't played much Star Citizen this year which would have been my justification. So hopefully they add it.

1

u/Select_Razzmatazz112 1h ago

I just ran the new siege of orison with a group last night and had a ton of fun. I mainly play star citizen for low flying now a days though.

2

u/In_2_Deep_5_U 4h ago

Those fools thinking they are going to have fun! They haven’t gone through a HOTAS bind mapping session and it shows!

3

u/Joverby 4h ago

lmao that was definitely another thought I had that held me back

2

u/Ninjaisawesome 2h ago

I got a HOTAS for the fun factor.

If I'm half RPing a Heli pilot then the sticks will be a fun addition

4

u/Cpt_plainguy 5h ago

I tried M&K and flailed miserably! So I bought a VKB HOASA set(I also play space combat games and had been wanting to buy it anyway) so I'll try that and hope my mind wraps around it better. I even tried with the mouse controls on and off, both ended it many crashes in the shooting range

0

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Good luck. My whole setup is vkb. There is def a curve to get used to sticks though.

1

u/Cpt_plainguy 5h ago

I even splurged on a good Monstertech mount set. So now I HAVE to use it 😂😆

1

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Haha.stick with it, just dont be suprised if you feel like a drunk kid when you first start using them. They take a bit to get used to even if you fly in real life. I 3d print my mounts, monstertech is very good quality though.

1

u/Cpt_plainguy 4h ago

I certainly don't fly in real life, would be awesome to though. Also noted, slam a 5th of whisky, then fly, that should even it out I think 😆

1

u/LaizureBoy 2h ago

A drunk kid is definitely a good analogy for how it felt when I tried flying in BF6 just to get used to the controls. I was honestly surprised by how much smoother and slower you have to move the stick compared to m&k. Kept overcorrecting and smashing into things because of it!

5

u/dacherrybomb Pilot 5h ago

Have a $1000 sim setup and I also play keyboard and mouse because this is a competitive shooting game first and arcade flight model second. I won't even get into comparing DCS to WarDogs.

4

u/WyrdHarper 5h ago

I use my HOTAS because it's fun. In most modern PvP flight or space games MNK is just as, or more, competitive because precision aim tends to be highly rewarded. You can pull my flight setup out of my cold, clawed hands, but no one should feel like they need to spend hundreds of dollars on hardware to fly.

The more people who enjoy flying, the better. It means there's more demand for air-based content and that is good for me. Plus I also like driving and infantry-ing, so not feeling obligated to dedicate myself to any one role is really nice in a game built around varied experiences.

2

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

With you 100 percent. Just dont want people to feel like you are better just for having sticks or need sticks to be competitive as it is just not true in this.

8

u/HereWeGooooooooooooo 5h ago

I'm excited for all the Timmy's with new HOTAS who will be awfully easy to shoot down. Once the AA meta gets established and they get shot down everytime they overshoot their landing zone they will transition more to infantry.

4

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

The aa is very strong. I spent about 95 percent of my time in helis. A good fob with protected aa is a issue for any pilot

-1

u/Canes-305 5h ago

yeah IMO the range on the AA missiles is a bit too much but wel see how it plays out long term

1

u/MaximumSeats 4h ago

And costs basically nothing to fire. One supply run has enough ammo for like 30 missiles.

1

u/HereWeGooooooooooooo 3h ago

Yeah I setup an aa fob to see how it worked and how to counter it. One supply drop gives a ton of missiles, and it's pretty piss easy. Flares seemed buggy in when they would work and not. I was killing tons of chopper kills without even trying. Only reliable method was fly low enough they couldnt lock

2

u/tripper_drip 5h ago

I have the same and am just going to use a Playstation controller to get progressive inputs instead of bang/bang kb&m

1

u/HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92 5h ago

Right? I have triple screen and full controls but if I wanted to fly I'd jump in MFS not a mill sim? Those Arma VR pilot videos really got to people 😂

1

u/Ok-Indication144 3h ago

That doesn't stop them from thinking it might. All I know is I'm buying a 4x4 for the foreseeable future LMFAO

1

u/linivx 3h ago

I saw a few real pilots saying the flight is quite realistic. I don’t have any idea tho

1

u/Duesdextera 2h ago

To a point yea. The low speed stuff is the stuff that feels arcadey. In general it feels like there are a bunch of assist to stabilize you at all times turned on

0

u/SekhWork Squad Leader 5h ago

Yeah. I've got an incredibly expensive flight setup. I use K+M for Wardogs. I've considered doing a HOKAS setup because I feel like maaaaaaaybe the stick control could give me faster turns than the mouse but I have 0 interest in getting out my full rig for this game.

-2

u/Jay1404 Pilot 5h ago

It can make you better because it has a more precise input not just 100% or 0%, but i guess you can achieve the same with a Controller

8

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Game has mouse controls for heli. This handles precision. Again the flight model does need precision. You are not fighting wind or rotation like you would be in a real heli. Hotas is really only for immersion.

-2

u/Jay1404 Pilot 5h ago

Rn mousecontrol would limit the view though to acquire new targets. Tbf i havent used mousecontrol yet rather just keyboard and the mouse to look around

3

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

You are correct but third person can help. And you can still use alt look. The game really needs a third part integration like tobi or another eye or headtracker.

1

u/SpartanJAH 4h ago

That, and I'm guessing that precise throttle control is going to be rough with binary inputs. I'm sure you meant that in your first comment but they skipped straight to mouse controls for maneuvering. There's more to flying a heli than pitch and yaw lol...

1

u/Jay1404 Pilot 4h ago

Yes i gotta say, the coolective is a mix between own input and autorotation if im not mistaken, would like it way more if you just set a collective on a scale from -100 to 100%

1

u/Sekh765 Squad Leader 1h ago

Hold alt and freelook.

1

u/Jay1404 Pilot 9m ago

I know about it but that leaves me with less movement to use the keys

-4

u/Vecshan 5h ago

How tfk is the flight arcade when i see what arma has is a joke lol

6

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Don't think anyone compared it to arma except you.

-3

u/Vecshan 5h ago

Arcade to what? Real life? Dcs?
Is a game
Anything besides irl is arcade and wardogs is tbh less arcade
Maybe dcs is the least

4

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Dcs ms Sim i can go on and on. Calm down, didnt mean to offend you by stating what everyone else pretty much agrees on.

1

u/QuietQTPi Medic 3h ago

The flight models between wardogs and DCS are vastly different. Sure DCS or MSFS dont have a 100% accurate model of physics but they get close enough that the skills can translate to real life. The fact wardogs treats helicopter controls as if you're flying a fixed wing and not changes in blade pitch is a pretty big indicator the model is arcady.

The biggest difference between arma and wardogs is the fact wardogs feels like it has mass and momentum.

I'm not saying they need to model blade pitch, but the physics in a helicopter both IRL and games like DCS, pushing the stick forward pitches the nose down and then back up as you return to center. In a fixed wing, if you push forward on the stick, the aircraft pitches down and holds that attitude when you return to center. It doesnt come back to level flight.

I mean its one random guys bad take

People are allowed to have their own bad opinions/takes you dont need to get up an arms about a random youtube comment

3

u/themothafuckinog 3h ago

Right? Just downvote it and move on. No need to spread the negativity further.

2

u/Equivalent-Ear-8016 Manticore 3h ago

Bro this is reddit. Here we fight until the last one surviving (or the most patient) wins. Always.

22

u/Cadoc 5h ago

Pilots in casual games tend to have an attitude.

It's similar in Battlefield, where the average pilot apparently believes he's entitled to a 50/1 kd by the virtue of "mastering" an extremely simple flight system, and complains ever time the sitting ducks on the ground are allowed to shoot back.

None of those people could compete in DCS or even War Thunder.

8

u/Zappenhell 4h ago

People have attitude and expecialy milsim people have attitude.

God how I hated this tryhards and smartasses in Arma.

3

u/Kewlture 2h ago

Yeah dude, I didn't know shit about those games until wardogs, and every single person I've read a comment from these games is a self loathing narc lol

3

u/Own_Concentrate5314 1h ago

Arma was a really strange experience. I dont play milsims often, but I'm an Apache mechanic by trade and like flightsim, so I took the time to learn the basics and become intermediate on flight in solo playing reforger. The moment I started looking for servers to fly in, I found that you need special permission to even do it, like be some sort of VIP player or get admins' permission. That's when I just dropped the game.

I didnt get to play the tests, but if this game let's me fly when I want to by virtue of paying for my own helicopter, then I'll probably be very happy with it.

4

u/kalebkk890 4h ago

First sentence could be summed up quite a bit. Pilots have an attitude lol even IRL pilots are the biggest divas in the world. Like keto, vegan and crossfit people on crack.

4

u/PusHVongola 4h ago

Can confirm. Worked with fighter pilots, insufferable egomaniacs.

14

u/SinkApprehensive2753 5h ago

Once they add eye tracking I'm never putting the chopper down

15

u/Jaco2point0 5h ago

How the heck are people supposed to board!?

16

u/luke1lea 5h ago

3

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Haha this is kind of how I pick people up anyway

10

u/AnyEnvironment2492 4h ago

i have an $800+ hotas setup and i fly with mouse and keyboard in war dogs, more likely hotas owners are delusional and feel entitled. Also does he not realize that he is one of the timmies that will be flying and not fighting for the zone? it’s up to him to switch to a different role

3

u/clitasticaldinosaur 4h ago

Hypocrisy is the human condition.

2

u/StopatStopSign 3h ago

Calling the kettle black.

9

u/MAFIAxMaverick 5h ago

I'm just going to drive my truck to and from the FOB.

1

u/fearless-potato-man 10m ago

Be careful. Nicolás Maduro started driving a bus and he is in a US prison now.

Never accept dictatorial leaderships from strangers.

6

u/jinfinity 4h ago

As someone who loved piloting in the beta.

I’m actually gonna grind building first, all these new pilots are gonna get eatin alive by my Sam sites 😈

3

u/Qui_Conatur Phantom Regiment 5h ago

I disagree with him feeling entitled to being the pilot, but also share his concern.

Theres simply going to be more people wanting to fly than necessary or productive.

I hope people naturally trend to being boots on the ground since the game needs. healthy portion of the players doing so to feel really good.

3

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

All in little birds as well. Felt like I was the only person flying the uh around delivering large cargo and people

4

u/SL4D 5h ago

He's shifting blame from himself to the Timmy's on why the team loses.

He wants to be the only one not required to fight on the point so he can roleplay the hero of the skies!

Tf is wrong with people.

"I'm a career construction worker with a Stiletto hammer and seeing all these videos about FOB building is really annoying because now everyone is going to build stuff and not play the objective"

Can't wait to play the game though!

4

u/RiceAndMayo 5h ago

It's funny because good pilots doing impressive maneuvers are kb+mouse.

People using Hotas are doing it because they find it fun, (and one day ill try a setup since I enjoy space games too!)

Then there are larpers like this dolt.

2

u/Evocalypse 5h ago

Yea I’m not sure where the sentiment of everyone getting a hotas is coming from when all the best pilots are mnk. I have a full hotas but it’s only used for il2 and dcs. I have never used it for any game less sim than those because it’s just inefficient.

1

u/Skpstr155 2h ago

It's like me in VR shooters. I know that freehand is faster, and if I practice, I can be more accurate, but a gunstock just makes the whole experience feel better.

4

u/RunsWithBeef1 2h ago

Such a weird take on flying as it's not going to be like Battlefield where the hardcore flyers are always on the aggressive. When you have to spend your personal resources to be the pilot like they do in this game I think you are going to run into a lot LESS Timmys in vehicles or if they have no idea what they are doing you will probably get some sort of refund if people TK even by accident right?

1

u/Skpstr155 2h ago

I think there will be an issue at the start, but once Timmy finds out that, if he flys badly, before long he's not only going to be unable to afford another chopper, but he'll have to grab a "free kit", if he wants to fight at all.

1

u/UnidentifiedBob 2h ago

my fav is when people hop out early and i land on them and its a tk.

3

u/Milkym0o 5h ago

I think it'll reach an equilibrium. I like flying, I will try to get the LB w/ launchers ASAP. Then I have options, and if it's overkill, I'll level up the other classes so I can drop those higher unlock items on request when I fly.

3

u/jamesmess 5h ago

It’s funny because the best heli pilots are going to be on m&k. Just look at the best koth arma pilots. They’re full keyboard control and mouse is just for the camera.

3

u/CatFish726 1h ago

To translate it to normal English is sm like “how dare you to play as you like IN MY GAME hits desK”

5

u/AdAcceptable1533 5h ago

It's a weird way of getting a point across for sure, but I do agree in some extent that having too much of one class (lets say pilots or builders), could affect the boys in the front.

How to balance that? idk, but its worth to discuss about

4

u/Altruistic-Rain-3696 5h ago edited 4h ago

I dont know if this is a good idea, but maybe underplayed roles could temporarily earn bonus cash (for as long as theres a shortage of players in that role), and maybe the game notifies you when those bonuses are active?

EDIT: my idea is probably not a good idea, like if everyone is spawning choppers, chances are most of them arent making much money if any, and they'll probably switch roles out of boredom without the game needing to convince them to change roles

also there would be situations where, if the enemy is spamming tanks, it would make sense for a larger portion of your team to equip anti-tank loadouts in response, and if the game deemed the large number of anti-tank loadouts a "role imbalance", then that might not make much sense since its a necessary role for that particular situation

4

u/Zappenhell 4h ago

Thats something a lot of players dont understand in a sandbox shooter - you dont balance it and give the people the freedom to do whatever they want. People will figure it out.

-3

u/AdAcceptable1533 4h ago

Wardogs is a sandbox shooter as much as Battlefield is. You need to have a minimal sort of rules and tools to balance the game.

1

u/Fit-Television-888 2h ago

That's what the money is for

2

u/SlashRist 3h ago

It's balanced by 5 helis just waiting around in base fighting over 3 passengers and losing the game xD

2

u/Joverby 5h ago

i have full hotas and im still goin to use m&k. be a good pilot and thats all you need to worry about. why do you feel threatened other people want to fly? crungo

1

u/Corvo1926 5h ago

People like to gatekeep

2

u/AnotherAverageGamer_ 5h ago

Y'all enjoy your flying.

Means more helis and people for me to rpg

2

u/Vito-TF45 4h ago

I have a full set hotas, and that’s my pleasure, it’s more immersive. Maybe the mouse and keyboard combo is better, don’t know and don’t care 🤷🏻‍♂️
And yeah, that’s expensive, so that’s an other reason to use it 🤣
I also have a next level racing seat, am I better with that? Of course not, but my ass loves it, so… 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Skpstr155 2h ago

Yup, I get out-TTKed in VR shooters all the time because freehanding is quicker than using a stock, but I have more fun using the stock.

1

u/nextlevelracing 1h ago

The ass deserves it!

2

u/Fast-Government-4366 4h ago

As a pilot, (irl) I love the Hotas nerds. They are also cocky as hell before getting into a real plane too

2

u/Yeti__Dad 3h ago

Flexibility will be key to victory, I also want to spend time piloting, i've gotten ok at it. But if I log in and there's 3 people pushing the HZ, 10 pilots trying to supply building supplies and transport, 10 people building fobs and 7 snipers hiding in the hills. Then i'm going to put on an assault kit and get my ass to the front line. If you want to win you have to fill in whats missing.

2

u/Nahteh 5h ago

Lmao I got $3k worth of virpil equipment. I came to shoot guns. And I did a bit of driving too.

1

u/Altruistic-Rain-3696 5h ago

its ragebait (probably)

if he was talking about a battlefield game where theres a limited number of choppers then maybe it would make more sense since no one wants to wait in a lineup and compete with their own team just to fly aircraft, but we can spawn our own chopper at virtually any time so its kinda a non issue

2

u/Skpstr155 2h ago

Unless you're bad, and have to wait for the free spawns.

I can totally see myself seeing a group of "pilots" waiting for one chopper, losing my crap, and mag dumping the lot of them lol.

1

u/Double117 5h ago

he should try being a better pilot. -a bad pilot

1

u/Shruglife 5h ago

honestly, flying was better on controller so ill see you up there bud

1

u/TheOnlyFatticus 5h ago

I just wish the idiots would not fly the helicopter next to people buying load outs.

Had a few that got mad people wouldnt get in their helicopter.

2

u/TelaKENesis Pilot 5h ago

I did it just to cut travel time, BUT if you don't get in after a few seconds and I have people, imma just move on. Those people will get to zone somehow or are AFK. Crazy people got mad.

1

u/Duesdextera 5h ago

Remove the horn.

1

u/TelaKENesis Pilot 4h ago

I feel like it should stay, as it is good if people are asking questions and you can talk. What sucks if the people that are spamming it, no need what so ever in main base.

1

u/IndexoTheFirst 2h ago

Always go walk right past them and go to the destination landing pad and then demand they pick up you up since they want the cash so bad

1

u/Damuskoob 5h ago

Not me. I will be in that hotzone with a rifle, Or blowing the doors open to your fob brother.

1

u/BlAcKbEaRpArTy 5h ago

I fly decently well with mouse and keyboard never crashed and killed my crew either, only myself once or twice

1

u/Drakore4 5h ago

Personally I hope they make it so people in air and ground vehicles don’t count for the zone. Then when people like this guy complain my argument will be “then you go be a foot soldier and benefit your team”. The people that complain are always the problem because you know the solution but you genuinely don’t want to put in any effort towards it.

3

u/LethalBubbles 5h ago

Air vehicles I can see not cou ting. But ground vehicles is just a bad take.

1

u/TheBUCK859 5h ago

i've had multiple games where our whole team was "fighting for the zone" and still getting smoked.

1

u/arqe_ 5h ago

500$ setup?

I mean how much is the entry level HOTAS from Thrustmaster? 75$? 80$?

I don't care what type of hardware you use for games but 500$ setup is closer to high end than a medium level one.

1

u/Voovoozellavoovoo 5h ago

It’s silly there’s tons of people that are just not interested in flying and would rather someone else fly them to where they need to go.

1

u/Ghostman223 5h ago
  1. You really don’t need a hotas for an arcade game
  2. People will stop flying when they realize each match needs a max of 2 transport and 1 logi heli

1

u/okgesture 5h ago

“Hey guys let’s dogpile on a shitty take, who’s with me!?”

Who cares what jossiwales has to say about anything?

1

u/Skpstr155 2h ago

Folks on Reddit apparently lol.

1

u/spliffiam36 5h ago

Cant believe you took the time to make this post about one person saying something lol

1

u/m44ever 5h ago

he is an idiot - its just free money for anti air - build an anti air emplacement and get free money early game

1

u/CelticMetal 5h ago

As immersive as hotas can feel and i like that, I'll probably be learning to fly m+kb anyways because it's just less to manage and makes swapping between fps and piloting a lot easier

1

u/Hmarxis 5h ago edited 5h ago

Lucky for all you flyboys im frontline infantry.

1

u/DiarrheaPope 5h ago edited 5h ago

Well he is right, there was a ton of people flying by the end of the last play test. But there's gonna be player ran servers that will enforce rules that they set for particular play styles, so why worry about it?

I also got a full VKB HOSAS setup with the rudders and expansion module ☝️🤓. An I can tell you right now it's not at all needed for a game like this. I use it for flight sims. This game was much more comfortable to fly with an Xbox controller imo.

1

u/Skpstr155 2h ago

There was a ton of people flying by the end, but progression was greatly "relaxed", so people could try things out.

They had the tank in general progression for example, when the reality is, you're going to be driving a lot of trucks and such to be able to get your hands on a tank.

1

u/JefferySmisek 5h ago

Wow. What a loser. If all your team is doing is flying then it will be easy pickings for the other team. Every action has a counter action.

1

u/-Jamason- 5h ago

Using my hotas felt like using my steering wheel for need for speed.

1

u/spartanliam1 4h ago

No worries. Im an equal opportunity asshole i will make it my mission to shoot down all pilots regardless of what controlls they use. An expensive setup isnt gonna save you from a sniper round to the head.

1

u/GOD-Z1LLA 4h ago

Last time I checked I still had free will, me with a controller, him with his hotas and little Timmy with Mnk we all have the same right to play however we want

1

u/MS-CURIE 4h ago edited 4h ago

I don't even understand these guys buying a full flight setup for an early access that doesn't even focus on having a realistic flight model?

It's like buying a wheel setup to play rocket league to me... I don't even use keyboard + mouse to fly, I literally use full keyboard bindings and was better than maybe 95% of pilots in Arma 3 HC KOTH for thousand of hours and without piloting being my main way to play.

Like OK maybe it's more ergonomic because of analog input and all but it's really not needed to be very good and efficient. Like OK sometimes I have to spam tapping like a retard to smooth out some manoeuvers but I never felt like I was handicapped in any way.

And also 99.9% of the time you're gonna do a standard J-hook landing in a safe spot. The shitty pilots are gonna be the ones taking risks to show off for no reason at all and crashing. I prefer a guy that drops me in a safe spot on the outskirt of the zone rather than a "PRO GAMER PILOT" that tries risky shit and gets blown up or crashes because they try landing on towers or buildings for everyone to see and shoot a rocket at

1

u/thegamerdoggo 3h ago

I’m actually planning on getting a HOTAS

It probably won’t make you any better, but like it looks really fun

Also I watched a video of a guy flying HOTAS in wardogs and he had a dog cam, I don’t think they’re that superior

1

u/Prior_Ground5334 3h ago

tihe can go flight in squad all the chopper will be available for him aka the real Timmy Hotas

1

u/mistermiajee 3h ago

I have a full hotas myself but you'll find me in the hotzone most of the time.

1

u/ArznikAaron40 3h ago

Makes me even more likely to want to fly just to piss this wanker off. Or switch teams to dedicate all my time to AA to shit on his day.

1

u/Gold_Value_2726 2h ago

I havent had a chance yet. What is the flight model like?

Arma 3? Reforger? Battlefield?

Controller or m&k better?

Any further insights appreciated. I want to learn how to be a transport for resources, but havent had a chance

1

u/Kewlture 2h ago

I can't wait to shit on Veteran Arma 3 reforgers and "vet" pilots. Here there fat sweaty greasy mouths go off in chat its gonna be so erotic

1

u/MoneyPresentation807 2h ago

I mean I bought Hotas because I have a few games now that can use them. I don’t think they are going to make me better, I just think it will be more immersive and fun this way. It’s how I want to have fun. I’ll have them right next to my m/k so I’ll swap between the two in spurts of gameplay.

1

u/ProfessionalPiece403 2h ago

Thing is that people won't fly if it's not sustainable. Roles will balance rather quickly.

Of course there will be people fighting for the zone.

Surely if there's plenty of choppers already in the air, this pilot would grab a rifle.and fight for the zone...... right?

Plus, if Timmy thinks he can unlock and spawn choppers like he did on the weekend, I think he's going to be disappointed.

Should be similar to how the devs said that, unlike the beta weekend, nobody's going to see a bunch of tanks in 3 days.

I didn't have the fortune to play in any of the tests, but from everything I've seen, the flying is nothing even close to sim flight. I'm not really sure why anyone would be making an argument from his perspective when it apparently isn't intended to be complex. Some of the helicopter footage even looks way too "weighty" compared to genuine helicopter flight too. As an Apache mechanic myself, it's surprising just how nimble that heavy helo actually is.

Being able to use a HOTAS at all is pretty cool, but nobody should be hardware gated outside of kb+m to play what amounts to an arcade military shooter with light Sim mechanics.

no one tell him that mkb is better for games like this, hotas is for fun/immersion

Maybe the price for vehicles should go up the more of them there are on your team

I’ve got a flight rig to play dcs. idgaf who ends up flying. If I get to then great, if I don’t then that’s perfectly fine. The reality is also that there are some crazy good MnK pilots out there. I would likely put this in the loud minority. However much I may want to fly, that’s not how a team works 🤣

Just fight in the zone with your flight setup. 🤟

Why are we posting random youtube comments bro? I implore you to find a second hobby besides gaming.

Why arent these guys playing war thunder?

This is such a dogshit take. The game is extremely arcadey and that’s fine, one of the benefits is you don’t need a sim pit to fly effectively. Everyone can be a great pilot, they don’t need to invest in peripherals for it. I say that as someone with a ton of flight sim peripherals.

I too hate seeing all these pilots...but not for the same reason.

My reason is actually that I feel bad for a lot of these guys. They go out, buy a HOTAS, thinking they're gonna be a great pilot because they got a HOTAS, and if they're unlucky enough, they do it without consulting a YouTube guide on which to buy.

You hate seeing it because all these folks think they're gonna be insta-good...and they're just not. For pure skill it doesn't matter. At the end of the day your input device and even control scheme are irrelevant. All that matters is seat time and experience, and buying a fancy joystick won't fix that for ya.

However, I will say, there's been a few people I've talked to who bought joysticks because they liked the immersion, and to those people I say: Have at it! Hope you have an absolute blast, and make sure you just practice, practice, and practice some more. You'll be a good pilot eventually.

To the rest: don't be afraid to switch back to KBM or controller to learn if that's more comfortable for you. Comfort matters, that lets you spend less time thinking about what buttons to press or how to handle a joystick or mouse, and more time learning the flight model for the helicopters and the basics of flying in "more sim-like" games (in quotes for you flight simmers)

There is always gatekeeping in KOTH. Its either gear, hours of experience flying, or some other metric.

Other people getting interested in flying doesn’t somehow lessen your experience or give you ownership over the skies. If anything, more people learning to fly = more pilots, more competition, more aerial combat, and more counters in the air.

You know this is just wrong. If you've ever played KOTH or Wardogs you would know that if there are 5 other happy go lucky pilots like you, that all of you, and your team collectively, is going to have a diminished experience. Its literally better to be on a team without pilots than to be on a team with too many. Thats just how the ecosystem works in this game mode.

Im waiting on $300 to get here in the mail. Im just trying not to crash. Having both hands on keyboard with no variable input is rough. Pressing throttle key or collective key and only having 0% or 100% input makes flying so difficult. I just want to be able to ease into turns or landings, and keyboard cant do that without tapping keys to imitate variable input.

“240+ hz monitors shouldn’t even be allowed, not fair to all the people hard locked on 60fps”😂

I mean I flew just fine using keyboard, apparently its even easier with mouse, or using controller.

It's not gate kept in anyway, and from what I hear HOTAS equipment actually puts you at a disadvantage compared to kb+m
