Hi - I saw a scene on television probably 30 years ago and I think about it from time to time. I cannot figure out what movie/show this is from ... just found this reddit, so I thought maybe I could ask here ...

I'm not sure of the exact setting, but at the time I assumed it was a Vietnam war movie, but maybe Korean war? In the scene, a caucasian solider (American?) is captured, with his hands bound. His captor leads him to a river and tries to force him into it. At this point it's revealed that "the bridge they've been looking for this whole time" is actually submerged about a foot below the surface of the water. This allowed the combatants to cross freely, but the bridge was undetectable from aerial photography.

FWIW, I remember it being in color ...

any idea what this was?

If I remember correct, its about two british friends, who come into trouble with the law and are given the choice to join the army instead of going to prison. I believe they are sent to some war in the middle east, and one of them becomes the camp bitch and people haze him and spit in his food. Maybe he commits suicide and then I believe his friend kills their superior.

I once a few years ago watched a clip from a Japanese war film on YouTube that I think was released during WWII. I think it was set in the Second Sino-Japanese war as it was in China. What I remember was that the battle scenes were in an urban environment. What struck me though was that it was filmed like a documentary. It looked like a view of the fighting and movements in a city from a building window with long shots. It was reminiscent of 'Westfront 1918' in terms of combat scenes. I did all the digging I could but can't seem to find it. Much appreciated!
