Used to be a couple of them like this. One was Flight of the Swallows, with P-51Ds and AI B-17Gs against a small team of 262s, another I think was called guardian angel, and was P-51Ds and B-17E/Gs against Fw-190Ds and 109Gs.

Doubt it. Even back when bombers were tough and ai gunners were laser accurate it was rough - after all, the bomber gameplay in these missions is entirely "fly in formation and pray". If you try to maneuver you'll just fall behind the main group and be easy pickings for the Germans.

Well that was really the whole doctrine back in ww2, I think the only way to implement it now would be to have like 50 to 100 people on the bomber side and then like half to a quarter for the attacking side

Agreed, but where would you find that many bomber aficionados? Combat flight sim community was always mainly fighter jockeys, and WT is no exception.

Now that I think of it - the Enlisted model might be appropriate here, with player-led AI squadrons.

Which was fun as hell when you had 3 or 4 friends willing to do bombing runs AND you could filter the maps/gametypes.

They did a rerun 2 years ago, and it was bad. Infinite queues (the waiting list was like, 15 US and 600GER), and 2min of battle before the us team got annihilated (few b17 players and zero escort vs an horde of fw190)... It could work as organised "private" custom event, but unlikely to work as normal event...

Like the last ww1 April event instant lobby on UK side but 30 min queue for a game in German side because A7V was/is so tanks with 20 crew

Realistic SIMs really highlight how crazy daylight bombing raids were

These dudes flew hours into enemy territory, were probably intercepted and flaked on the way. Then told do it 19 more times with an average of 10% of crews not making it to their last mission

Our r/WarThunderSim 'Team Sim' sister server, which is our event branch, is not "boosted" enough or whatever, to have a permanent link. So for the sake of how many of these comments I have archived now, I am waiting to get perm ones to send out. But inside the HQ, you will find Krab_Nation announcements and PLENTY of links to the Event discord, which specializes in these sorts of shenanigans. If you can't find them, any one of the 5000 some-odd pilots we have floating around will be glad to help ye!

Frankly, tho, the best way is probably to follow some of the Team Sim streamers on Twitch (even if you dont really use it) and simply let those push notifications thru from those specific sim streamers, such as myself. There is a link to my page if you click on my little dragon picture. If we are doing some kind of BIG formation thing and im sitting around to organize it, you will almost ALWAYS find out first from that notification going live msg.

Stuff like:

"B-17 WT Event Campaign number four launching TODAY, all are welcome to come join in. Hit up chat for details"

"Trying to get some dope screenshots of PB4Y in formation today in War Thunder, come help (or shoot at) us"

"Trying to get multi crew setup for MSFS, let me know if you want to jump in copilot seat"

"Launching massive A-20 raid on IL-2 Great Battles. Come be a pilot or just a gunner! (Gunners dont need to own the aircraft)"

Stuff like that

From there, you can decide if you want to bother booting up or not. You dont even have to watch the channel or nothin' (but it would help us a lot). Most of the notifications will be trash... but if there is ever a particular plane you want to fly with us or one you really want to see flown by us (or attempted to be flown, in some cases)... just bug us about it in chat from time to time. Eventually, ill just randomly decide to lead a flight of 20-30 of them (most coming from the live notifications or discord) into battle, and hopefully youll be there to join us.

It is a little easier with the live notifications, because ill often be apart of events from other discords all over the sim-o-sphere that wouldnt necessarily be advertised on my own discord. So unless you want to follow me around to like 500 other discord servers, trying to figure out which ones are worth logging in for... the live notifications save ye a lot of trouble.

Last Friday they published an article about a rework to bomber survivability. From their explanation they want to make it more about targeting subsystems than having the plane come apart like Legos, assuming I got that right.
