Never too old to start something new.. This is a collection of my first year of painting.

Some are from short workshops I’ve taken, others are just cool images I wanted to paint. It can be frustrating at times, especially when they get that ugly stage and I get extra muddy. I’ve put several of these down and come back to them months later.

First time I ever cried when starting a piece | My original work entitled "Guilt"

I started this piece yesterday (it's still not done obviously) and the first time I ever cried when painting something was then.

The intended message behind the work is somewhat along the lines of survivor's guilt and trauma, portraying that even though we've fought for ourselves throughout the darkest times in our life, remains of the battle are stuck with us forever. The severed head attached to the antlers of the elk is in a stage of deep decomposition to symbolize the time between the beginning of trauma and where we lie now.

I don't think very many people understand how art can be so moving and carry such a message, even if it just looks like an elk that won a jousting match.

Inspiration photo is on the last slide for those that are interested. The photo is by Kohei Nagira and is entitled "Never-ending Struggle".

This work took me about four days to make (not sure how many hours) but I’m really proud of it! Swipe for progress pics going back to my original drawing.

This is my first post here so I hope it’s ok I post fanart from a cartoon called Adventure Time! I used the $5 essentials watercolor kit from Walmart to paint this (except the neon green.) It is ok paint. But would love another affordable alternative if you have one? Thank you in advance!

“Fiona” 9x12” watercolor

Introducing my latest watercolor named Fiona.

Backstory of Fiona the bun-headed rebel-

Fiona is sweet- dangerously sweet, like the kind of person who bakes cookies but forgets to mention they’re spiked with espresso and rebellion. She’s the teen who doodles galaxies in her homework margins and once tried to convince her art teacher that glitter counts as a “philosophical statement.” Her hair? It’s not dyed - it’s powered by sheer attitude and vitamin D.

She’s the kind of rebel who breaks rules politely: she’ll apologize while doing it again, but with better eyeliner. Fiona’s hair isn’t “up” - it’s strategically launched. Those two messy buns are less a hairstyle and more a declaration of independence from gravity. Her hobbies include rescuing bees, ignoring curfews, and pretending her homework is performance art. Her motto? “If life gets tangled, just turn it into a bun and keep going.”
