When you're spending £325 for a weekend, (probably £500+ including food and drink) a £30 tent starts looking disposable

It disgusts me. I was a regular festival goer in the early 2000s, including Leeds/Reading. I would never have even considered leaving my shit behind, however young, tired and hungover I was. It’s shameful. When my kids are a bit older I’ll have no problems with them going, but I’ll definitely be checking out and checking back in ALL their kit.

In my experience many festivals give trash bags for recycling and have dumpsters spread out to dispose them in.

I just finished a comment telling someone that he shouldn't have the mentality of "someone will clean up after me". But I don't have any illusions about that changing anything.

If your plan for improvement is based on "if everyone just..." Then it's not going to work. That's idealism and just means you stop looking for actual solutions.

Do people just hand you unwrapped food over there? You guys aren’t using plates, utensils, napkins or packaging?

I’ve never visited, but it’s shocking to imagine someone handing me an open unwrapped sandwich to consume at a festival.

Edit to add: how tf are you getting your beverages? They just pour the beer into your cupped hands?

As they say on the trail "pack in, pack out". Meaning if you packed it with you to bring it, you can pack the trash with you on the way out too.

Don't know how festivals work in the UK, but in Belgium these are usually volunteers who get a free ticket or some drinks in return.

So you are giving Jeanine who lives in the neighborhood a hard time, not someone who does this as a living.

Volunteers are voluntary, if she's having a hard time maybe she shouldn't volunteer. The organiser is required to cleanup and the cleanup will happen regardless of if people volunteer or not.

Yeah that's a good way not to have any volunteers anymore and have even higher ticket prices as a result.

All because you don't want to clean up your trash.

I agree that the problem is partly infrastructure and it should be easier to dispose of your stuff. But the mentality of "someone is paid to do this" just means that everything will slowly get more expensive to clean up after your ass.

When the cleaning lady comes, I don't stop flushing my toilet or throw my dirty laundry on the ground.

Me? I've never been to a music festival, not my thing. I just don't think they're doing anything wrong by leaving trash in an area that is due to have trash removed by cleaners who are expecting trash.

If it were a concrete venue I would agree, that's easy to sweep up. But getting trash from a field is very intensive labour. Digging for cigarette butts and just generally small trash is awful work and never perfect.

Much more effective to give everyone a trash bag and access to trash bins.

And i would imagine a lot of these are paid for by parents as its become increasingly a GCSE present for kids.

So why do they care if their tent gets abandoned.
