I tried it once, found nothing but soggy cardboard, empty Pringles tubes, tissues...

I did get a new torch though

Do you mean flashlight?

Or you literally found a wooden stick with a cloth on the end that’s meant to be burned for light?

A torch is what a flashlight is called in Britain.

What would this be called then?

A torch. Or a flaming torch if you needed to specify but I can’t say it’s something you come across often enough to have ever caused any confusion.

That’s weird

Flashlight sounds weird to us. Different people speak differently in different places.

I (American) remember reading Lion Witch and the Wardrobe for the first time and thinking “wow, the Brits must have been beyond desperate if the kids are using fire torches in this country estate house!” And then getting to the batteries burning out- realized it was a flashlight. I definitely thought it was odd, but it’s still understandable. It’s a stick that’s lit on one end, after all.

It is fun on paper, it's much less fun if you're exhausted after 3 days of working on the festival, and depending on the festival you might have to be careful about needles.

Back home they had this event where people would get into intertubes and float down the river (and yes, they'd tear up the intertubes and let them float down the river to pollute it, leaving the local Indian res to clean it up), and the day after you could make some bank by walking the shore of the river and finding shit left behind, like jewelry, wallets and such.
