Jaci, Goddess of the Moon in the Indigenous-Brazilian (Guarani) religion
Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well! 💙
I am a Wiccan from Brazil, home to many native indigenous ethnicities, a lot of which are polytheistic. Although I am not indigenous myself, I love studying indigenous religions and learning from them! 😊 Today, I’d like to share a little bit about Jaci, the Goddess of the Moon, who is revered by many indigenous peoples
In some Guarani pantheons, Jaci (or Iaci) is the magnificent Goddess of the Moon. She is affectionately known as the "mother of fruits" or the Queen of the Night, and she plays a central role in the cosmology of this Brazilian indigenous people
Most of the versions I have studied about the Goddess say she is the daughter of Tupã, but I have also found some versions stating that she is the daughter of Nhanderu, the Supreme God, and the sister of Tupã
Jaci was created to be the counterpart and companion of Guaraci (the Sun God). While Guaraci rules over the day, warmth, and wakefulness, Jaci reigns over the night, gentleness, and rest, illuminating the darkness to guide earthly beings 💖
Jaci is associated with several vital elements for nature and human life. She is considered the protector of marine life, plants, and the cycles of nature that depend on the lunar phases
She is also the Goddess who blesses love, romance, and affection. Furthermore, Jaci is the one who awakens a deep longing in the hearts of warriors and hunters, drawing them back home to their wives and families
She is an incredible and deeply cherished Goddess with a wonderful story!
