😡 Venting Breaking: Four House Democrats just introduced an amendment to condemn socialism & the DSA. Josh Gottheimer (NJ) Hillary Scholten (MI) Tom Suozzi (NY) Jared Moskowitz (FL) We’re living through the horrors of capitalism while Democrats join with Republicans to condemn socialism.

That's because most of them work for the same people, billionaires and Israel.
233
u/Nahteh 2h ago
And people wonder why they say "both sides". We have a right of center party and an authoritarian right party.
We have no leftist party, we have no small government party.
80
u/Dependent_Title_1370 2h ago edited 2h ago
Hopefully the DSA can change that. It feels a bit like how the tea party influenced the Republican party. Hopefully the magnitude of the effects is equal or better. Just, you know, in a positive direction.
Edit: My comparison to the tea party was meant to point out how a small group grew and fundamentally altered the Republican party. I want that for the democratic party. I want it fundamentally altered into a party that actually serves the American people. I was in no way commenting on the nature or goals of the tea party.
35
u/ToraRyeder 2h ago
The big difference with the DSA and The Tea Party is that DSA has been working for decades in grassroots campaigns spanning more than just electoral. We care about people's rights and abilities to live a life without the hanging knife over our heads that is capitalism.
The Tea Party was solely reactionary and fighting to stop something that they didn't like. Yeah, DSA is loud about not liking many things but overall the goals are focused on helping ALL people. Even if you don't vote for us, we still want you to have healthcare.
That community building is also useful in local elections and movements as well. We're seeing a push against data centers, people coming to city council meetings for the first time ever, and we're seeing people demand accountability and actually following through with it.
Times are scary but I have a lot of faith and hope right now. It will not be easy. These monsters will not leave power easily. We know that. We just have to keep together because the people united will always win in the end.

u/Background-Wolf-9380 2h ago
The 2 parties are 85%+ aligned in their opposition to anything that benefits average Americans. Sure there is that 15% that includes continuing the farse of democracy where we must always choose an evil person to rule us rather than any possible chance of someone to actually represent us but what good are those when we know we'll never see progress from any of this? My 2 Senators and 1 Congressman do not give a single shit about what we want or what is actually good for me and my neighbors and they're all Democrats. Am I supposed to think that marginal difference between them and the Republicans is important when I know I'm getting only Republican or Republican lite policies?
They're all in the Epstein Predator Class and they all maintain solidarity in opposition to the people they're supposed to represent.

And people wonder why they say "both sides".
Nobody is wondering why it's said. They call out the stupidity of the people that keep regurgitating the idea when it's obviously untrue. If we had elected Kamala we would not currently be in a war with Iran, we would not be imposing tariffs on Canada, etc.

If we'd had a real primary and if the DNC had allowed the best candidate to win democratically without their usual ratfucking, we'd have had a far stronger candidate who didn't campaign on doubling down on the genocide while cozying up to billionaires.
With the so-called centrists in charge, the Dems have lost TWICE to Trump.
How's that old saying go? Repeating the same thing while expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity.

10

They aren't the only ones. If you pay attention you'll see the establishment Democrats rotate who sides with Republicans to pass legislation beneficial to Billionaires and other special interest. This allows them to constantly shift blame while maintaining the facade of being an opposition party.
2
u/ofWildPlaces 48m ago
But only those 4 have tied to codify their standpoint with a document. It's not "most" Democrats.
5
u/fednandlers 2h ago
It’s nice to see this not be downvoted by confused Democrat voters as it has been for over 20 years on this site. They still ask “how come the Democrats…?” But theyre finally, slowly starting to figure it out.

That stupid both sides narrative (usually touted by closet conservatives) is how we got the present lunatic in power.
And like others are saying, it's 4 out of 212.

Incorrect. We got the lunatic because so many people refuse to vote for evil-lite like Kamala. If there’s a real candidate offered, people vote.

They just work for billionaires. Israel is just working for billionaires with more steps through the military industrial complex and imperialism.
Israel gets so much support because it's a bottomless war-spending pit for the MIC (which billionaires own and run), and of course it acts as the US' de-facto military base in the region for our imperialism.
I think Israel has tail-wagged-the-dog to a degree with Trump and the Iran war, buy American war hawks have wanted war with Iran for like 40 years.

u/Conscious-Quarter423 2h ago
why are you painting the whole of the democratic party just cause 4 democrats voted on something you disagree with
17
u/ToraRyeder 2h ago
Because they're noticing the pattern that the democratic party always has.
Something is incredibly unpopular, but just enough democrats side with the republicans to make it work.
People want change and progress? Shocker, the democratic party wants to stop it because that's just what they do. This has been a pattern for over a decade.

80% of the country agrees with the DSA, not the DNC or the GOP...the two "big" parties just use the words we say but then fail to explain the truth about their own bills.
The way the system is works is that they propose a corporate friendly idea, slather something on top both sides" will hate, then run "messaging" until they get everyone evenly divided, at which point they "vote" and "compromise" by "stopping the [identity politics based fear], but they had to let the corpration's guy on the other side get what they wanted."
Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Regarldess of which party is "winning", the corporations that "hedged their bets" on both campaigns are ALWAYS getting what they were after.

It's a pattern. The DNC was against Sanders in 2016. Cuomo ran against Mamdani in NYC. Schumer, a Senator from NY and the Minority Leader, wouldn't endorse Mamdani after he won the democrat primary. I live in Michigan and I'm waiting to see who does and doesn't support Abdul El-Sayed, but I have a feeling the establishment Dems won't be out in droves to get him elected.

Economic labels are how you discern which people want to make life affordable. Socialist are for worker empowerment, capitalist represent owner interests. The capitalist want you poor and desperate so you are willing to work longer for less. The socialist want to tax the wealth hoarders so you can access affordable healthcare, education, and be paid a livable wage.
People can claim to be anything though, and that's why you pay attention to actions. Words are air, but actions are eternal.

Some of my favorite quotes from that totally unbiased article:
DSA, which has leveraged affordability concerns to mount a power grab in Congress.
the repression and mass murder that results from the poisonous ideology.
the increasingly dangerous socialist takeover
4
u/madbadanddangerous 48m ago
“Whereas socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has, time and time again, collapsed into communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and repressive dictatorships;” began the Democrats’ amendment put out by Congressman Gottheimer’s office.
That's literally what capitalism does. Everything is privatized, wealth makes it easier to accrue more wealth, and since economic power is synonymous with financial value, power becomes centralized in the hands of the precious few who have the most wealth.
I would expect this gaslighting and rhetoric from the Republicans but the "left" (big airquotes there) party in the US should not be spinning this bullshit too

Resolutions are just political theatre that have no meaning to anyone other than bloviating about "anti-socialism". They are entirely symbolic.
People can complain that their Democratic representatives didn't push back on the resolution, but doing so is just lip service.

Scholten wasn't primaried and is already on the ballot. She does more to condemn the DSA and El-Sayed than her actual opponent. After the primary every other Dem in the state (including Haley Stevens) announced they were endorsing El-Sayed while Scholten just said "we need to focus on November."
Scholtens district was won by El-Sayed in a fucking landslide.

But hey y’all, remember to pay attention to your voter status and make sure you actually vote in at least the elections that decide your governor, your state senators, your house representative, and of course the President.
Mid term election- Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Presidential election- Tuesday, November 7, 2028
Please use your right to vote, whether it may not seem that way, your vote is important.
You have the right to vote as an American citizen and the important thing to remember is that not everyone in the past had a right to vote like we do now, we could easily backslide into a time where voting becomes restricted again if the wrong people keep ending up in office.
Get out and vote, every vote matters.

Think about it: to the redhats, anyone left of far-right is "boogeyman" status, something far-fetched and in their imaginations. Liberals dont pose an actual threat to rank-n-file republicans. To dems, meanwhile, liberals are an ACTUAL and legit threat to their center-right status quo. They fear liberals FAR more than republicans do.

Claude, what do all four of them have in common?
All four are consistently among the strongest pro-Israel voices in the House Democratic caucus, though with some differences in emphasis.
Shared ground:
- All voted for/support continued military aid to Israel, including the Israel/Ukraine/Taiwan supplemental packages. Scholten voted for a legislative package delivering assistance to Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel alongside humanitarian aid for Gaza.
- All condemn Hamas explicitly and center hostage release as a top priority. Gottheimer, Moskowitz, Schneider, and Manning jointly said Hamas "must release all of the hostages" and called for Hamas's defeat before working toward "a lasting peace and a two-state solution."
- All frame themselves as defenders of the U.S.-Israel relationship against their party's left flank. Gottheimer and Moskowitz urged the Jewish and pro-Israel community to go "on the offensive" against anti-Israel attacks, saying they were fed up with being attacked for their pro-Israel stances.
- Nominal support for a two-state solution as the eventual goal, paired with strong current-moment support for Israel's military response.
- Willingness to praise Trump administration Israel/Gaza moves that other Democrats stayed quiet on. Suozzi openly praised Trump for finalizing the deal that freed hostages in Gaza and was among the minority of Democrats who credited Trump for the ceasefire.
Where they differ in degree:
- Gottheimer and Moskowitz are the most vocal and paired pair on this — they co-author most of the joint statements, letters, and even traveled together to Israel-related events. They led a 113-member bipartisan letter (63 Democrats, 50 Republicans) asking Biden to bolster Israel's security, hold Iran accountable, and increase Iron Dome funding.
- Suozzi has leaned into this as a signature political identity in New York, most visibly by standing apart from Democratic colleagues, openly opposing NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, and criticizing Mamdani specifically for not condemning the phrase "globalize the intifada."
- Scholten is the most likely of the four to pair pro-Israel statements with pointed language about Palestinian civilian suffering — she has called the humanitarian situation in Gaza "a full-blown crisis" with children starving, while still saying Hamas "started this war and can end it today." This balancing act has drawn criticism from both pro-Palestinian activists and some pro-Israel donors' critics, illustrated by progressive commentary noting she referenced only Israeli hostages in an October 7 anniversary post and by criticism describing her as heavily backed by pro-Israel PAC money (the latter source is an openly partisan critic site, worth reading skeptically).
Net picture: this is one of the clearest ideological threads tying the four together — they're part of a small, cross-regional bloc of House Democrats (with Brad Schneider, Kathy Manning, and a few others) who've made robust, publicly vocal support for Israel a defining part of their political brand, even when it puts them at odds with the party's progressive wing.

This is brilliant news though. It is just more free advertising for the DSA and socialist-minded candidates in general.
When The Last Temptation of Christ came out it wasn't doing so well in the box office and then the Catholic Church did the one thing that would ensure everyone would go see it: they tried to have banned and organized picket lines outside theaters. America saw that and immediately needed to see what this movie was about. Was it very good? Fuck no, but everyone saw it. I see this as a good thing. The more they rail against the DSA the more people will want to know why.

That's because the current Democrat leaders are the controlled opposition. This is no exception. This is what the current democrat party exists to do.
They're meant to give the least amount to the working class to prevent revolt. That's why they always side with Republicans when it matters the most. That's why they never do anything when they have the power (see Biden and Kamala's government).

Scratch a Liberal, as the old quote goes. Anyone thinking these people aren't center-right Liberals is sorely confused about the American political spectrum.

This is outrageous! I'm definitely going to write a strongly worded letter, probably. Maybe two even!

That’s a weird way to say you don’t want to be a house representative anymore.
