My name is Ezra (Lead Writer and Creater of Boy of the Appalachian), and together with my co-director Genanaw, we run Black Mountain Mythos Studios—a youth-led, transmedia IP production house based out of the DMV area.

For the past three years, I’ve poured my life into building a massive, currently on going 446,687-word dark progression fantasy novel called Boy of the Appalachian (currently publishing on Royal Road). Now, we are launching our next major phase: adapting this sprawling, shonen inspired universe into a highly stylized, cinematic asynchronous Audio Drama Series.

Our goal isn’t to make a dry audiobook. We want to pioneer a true Audio-Anime experience—complete with spatial 3D audio, aggressive synth rock scores, and heavy hitting, sound designed magic systems.

The Project: Boy of the Appalachian (S1: Welcome to Oblio Saga)

• The Vibe: Gritty Appalachian folklore clashing with high-octane shonen power scaling. Think Fullmetal Alchemist meets One Piece set in the misty, shadowed valleys of a secret mountain sanctuary.
• The Setup: Oblio is a safe haven for exiles that has defied global military empires for two centuries. When the brutal Concordat military demands the extradition of a young revolutionary, Oblio’s 92-year-old Mayor says no—choosing war over the betrayal of his guests. Caught in the crossfire are the three Solace brothers (Johnny, Dale, and little Ez), who must navigate a nation preparing for its final stand.

• The Magic System: A highly structured, biological energy system built around "vATP" cellular Qi manipulation, the elemental Wuxing cycle, and the soul-born manifestations of Requiras(JJBA inspired version of stands).

1. Co-Writer / Script Adapter (1-2 Positions)

• The Job: You won't have to worry about writer's block—the story is already fully written :)! However, to see and test the skills of my co writer, I am planning on including a few new adjustments to season 1, and of course, I will help you write it, besides that, your job will be translating my dense, detailed novel chapters and Show Bible outlines into fast paced, highly engaging episodic audio scripts. You’ll focus on natural dialogue flow, pacing for the ear, and mapping out clear sound-design cues.
• Perfect for: Aspiring screenwriters, fanfiction authors, or narrative designers who love character driven fantasy and want a massive sandbox to play in.

2. Sound Designer / Audio Engineer (3 Positions)

• The Job: You will be my director of animation for the listener's ears. You will all work together to handle dialogue cleanup, Foley, ambient environmental layering, and mixing epic elemental combat sequences. We want to give unique, heavy hitting audio signatures to our magic.
• Perfect for: Audio engineering students or bedroom mixers who want to build a mind blowing sound effects and mastering portfolio.

3. Voice Actors (Casting Calls already Open!)

• we have already opened an official casting calls for our lead and supporting characters, including the hyperactive six year old protagonist Ez, his protective older brothers Johnny and Dale, and the other characters. If you are a VA who wants to get your name shouted out over driving metal tracks to a live audience, you can send in a demo reel right now if you wanted too!

The Deal

We want to be completely upfront: we are independent creators working with zero initial corporate funding. This is currently a volunteer, portfolio-building partnership.

However, we are treating this as a legitimate business. We operate under a contract-protected Revenue Share (Rev-Share) model. Every member of the core production team will receive an equal, permanent percentage split of all future income generated by the IP through our Patreon, Ko-fi tipping, and crowdfunding campaigns.

The basic idea
It’s 2085.
A pandemic has wiped out half the population, and the world is now controlled by one government.

That government has decided creativity is dangerous.

Art, music, singing, dancing, poetry, philosophy — all of it is illegal.

Everyone has a chip in their head that monitors their thoughts, and there’s a one-child policy. Children born before the policy were sent to death camps.

A group of teenagers from those camps escape and start a resistance in the remains of New York.

They’re trying to figure out why creativity is being erased.

Then reality starts going completely insane.

Fruit starts talking.

People from different points in history start appearing.

Time randomly sends people into the past.

Things that shouldn't exist start existing.

Nobody knows what's happening.

And creativity is actually magic.
Someone who knows how to sing might be able to turn their voice into weapons or energy.
Someone who writes might be able to create illusions.

Someone who paints might have completely different abilities.

Your magic is connected to your character.

If they're hiding something, lying to themselves, discovering something about who they are, etc., their powers can become stronger, weaker, or change entirely.

So basically:

Character development = magic development.

What I want to do with everyone
This isn't going to be me controlling the entire story.
We'll all work together on:

And here's the part I'm really excited about:
Every episode, someone different gets to be the DM.

You get to write the episode's plot, control the NPCs and villains, decide what happens, and choose what lore gets revealed.

Then next episode, someone else takes over.

I am the Creative Director/Worldbuilder of this universe. I have the entire plot mapped out from Arc 1 to the Epilogue, the lore, and strict character essence boundaries. However, I want a partner to co-write and bring the prose to life with me.

Your Role: Bringing your own imagination to structure scenes, write engaging prose/dialogue, and add fresh situations while staying true to the overall tone and character arcs.

Looking for Writers/Creatives for an Original Anime-Inspired Fantasy Story

I'm developing an original story called Inner Spirit, and I'm looking for a few creative people who would be interested in helping me develop it.

The world, main characters, power system, organizations, and core story are already being built. I'm not looking for someone to take over the story — I'm looking to create a small writers' room where we can bounce ideas off each other, develop characters, plan arcs, write scenes, and make the world feel deeper and more alive.

ABOUT THE STORY

Inner Spirit is a character-driven fantasy/action story built around Pulse, a life energy that manifests differently depending on the person using it.

People can develop different Affinities, manifestations, and abilities governed by personal rules called Scripts. Powers aren't supposed to just be cool attacks — they're connected to identity, personality, experiences, beliefs, and the person's sense of self.

The story follows Tai, a young outsider whose awakening begins revealing things about himself and the world around him that he doesn't understand.

There's an organization called Axis, dangerous manifestations known as Malfests, competing philosophies surrounding Pulse, mysteries surrounding Tai's abilities, and a larger history behind why this system exists in the first place.

Tonally, I'm aiming for something that can have the excitement and creativity of a battle anime while still slowing down for character relationships, mystery, philosophy, humor, consequences, and emotional moments.

WHO I'M LOOKING FOR

You don't need professional writing experience.

I'm mainly looking for people who genuinely enjoy things like:

I would remain the Creator / Showrunner and maintain the overall direction and canon of Inner Spirit.

Other writers would specialize in different areas depending on what they're good at.

We'd discuss upcoming chapters/arcs, pitch ideas, develop characters and abilities, review scenes, catch inconsistencies, and gradually build the story together.

You wouldn't need to write entire chapters unless that's something you actually want to do.

I'm a 14M writer/director of my own series Awoken, which is a Minecraft machinima. Minecraft machinimas are essentially the practice of filmmaking within the world of Minecraft. I've been thinking about this story for over two years now, and I've reached the point where I have a pretty solid idea of the main characters, themes, and general direction, but I'd really like some other people to bounce ideas off of or beta read.

It's a set in a fictional country. The main setting is a government-funded university that is essentially a rehabilitation program for young criminals. Instead of serving conventional prison sentences, selected offenders are given the opportunity to rebuild their lives through education and social rehabilitation. The catch is that the system is far from perfect, and putting a group of violent and troubled people together creates its own problems.

The protagonist is one of the students. He's a strange, unsettling guy with a violent past, poor social skills, and a very unusual way of looking at people. He's not really a traditional hero or villain as he doesn't actively look to harm people. A lot of the story revolves around trying to understand him through his actions rather than simply explaining his thoughts to the audience.

There are also a few other major characters who represent very different ideas. One is the university's president, who genuinely believes people can change and wants the rehabilitation program to succeed. He's the hero of the story that will clash with the main character.

What I'm looking for is people who enjoy brainstorming and would be interested in helping me develop things like worldbuilding for the fictional country or ideas for conflicts and story arcs and so on.

I'm not looking for a professional writer since I can't afford to pay anyone. I'm looking for someone who'd like to work on the story with me, rather than write it for me, and we'd share credit for the work. I can bounce ideas for your story, too.
