My fiancé and I adopted a 5-month-old puppy, and I feel like she has some strong Akita traits, but not completely. What do you guys think?
Her temperament is pretty calm. She barely ever barks, and she is still friendly with other animals and strangers. I’ve been having a hard time training her, though. I’ve noticed that she understands the commands, but she only listens when I use treats as a reward.

I was told when I adopted him he is an Akita mix, I'm not familiar with them so I'd love to know your thoughts! Thank you 😊

His tail is curled and weights about 80lbs and is 5 years old. His name is Kuma

Looking for a loving new home for our 1-year-old American Akita – Bedfordshire/London

This is an incredibly difficult post for me to write, but unfortunately we need to find a new home for our American Akita, Kai.

Kai turned one in July and he is genuinely one of the friendliest, most loving dogs you could meet. He's absolutely beautiful, full of personality, and incredibly loved by our family.

He's had a bit of a journey already in his short life. Around 4 months ago, he was involved in a terrible car accident, which thankfully he has recovered from. He also suffered from entropion, which we made sure was treated and taken care of.

Unfortunately, I've now had to move away from home, and my family simply aren't able to give Kai the amount of time, attention and care that a young American Akita deserves. We all love him enormously, which is exactly why we don't want him spending his life without the attention and companionship he needs.

We're looking for a genuinely loving, responsible and permanent home for him. Ideally someone who understands large breeds/Akitas and has the time and ability to properly care for him.

This isn't first come, first served. Finding the right person and the right home for Kai is far more important to us than simply finding someone quickly.

We're based in Bedfordshire, just outside London.

Hello everyone! My girl has been using the same leash for about 3 years now and recently it started to crack and break in some spots. I believe it was some sort of vegan leather, I'm not really sure.

Although I despise the material of this leash, I love that it's multifunctional. When I walk with her, I usually wear it crossbody style and use the lower "traffic" handle that sits near her harness. But it's also nice to clip it back to a normal, longer leash when we are hiking or in a big park.

I wanted to come here to see if you guys have any recommendations for leashes that 1: are multifunction and have the traffic handle 2: have strong carabiners and materials to hold the strength of an akita

Other things that would be nice but aren't as important: Comfort grip, waterproof material and screw lock carabiners. Preferrably european brands or brands with international shipping, but it's also something I can work around.

I was told she's a huskita. Not sure what mix she has.

Don't bark much.. only when people she doesnt know are around..and when she's wanting attention.. no she doesn't howl at all. My sister has to bark for her early on as she's really quiet.. how often does she bark in a day? Probably 0 to 3 barks at most.. like literal bark, bark bark and that's it...she's reached her quota for 24 hours.

My 16 year old departed from this world today. She was a fighter but she lost this last one. I will miss her forever. She was a magnificent being. I hope she felt loved and cared for enough. I just wish she left us with no pain.

Reparem como o pelo do rosto criou essa marcação em formato de coração acima dos olhos, dividindo o urajiro da pelagem da testa. A mãe dela é vermelha e o pai é branco.

Mais alguém aí tem ou teve um filhote que ficou com marcações diferentes durante a fase de troca de pelo?

I’m curious what everyone here is currently feeding their Akitas and how it’s been working for them.
I have an 8-year-old purebred Japanese Akita and we’re currently dealing with a change in food availability after moving to Guam. He has been eating Redford Naturals Salmon & Brown Rice for quite a while and has done very well on it, but unfortunately I can’t find the same food here.
I’m trying to figure out what would be the best long-term replacement rather than just grabbing whatever is available at the store.
I’d especially love to hear from other Japanese Akita owners:
• What brand/formula do you feed?
• What protein do you use — salmon, chicken, lamb, etc.?
• How old is your Akita?
• Male or female?
• Any food sensitivities/allergies or stomach issues?
• How long have they been on that food?
• Have you noticed differences in coat, digestion, weight, energy, or itching after switching?
I’ve been looking at Purina Pro Plan, Taste of the Wild, Hill’s Science Diet, Royal Canin, Blue Wilderness, WholeHearted, and Nature’s Recipe, but I’m open to pretty much anything.
I’m much more interested in long-term experience with Akitas than simply “X brand is the best.” If your Akita has been eating the same food for years and is doing great, I’d love to hear about it.

I need recommendations for a new leash the one we currently have doesn’t give him enough freedom any recommendations would help

Hello guys!!

I have an 1 year old amazing female Akita and I’ve been wondering how would it be to have a second dog. Do you guys have tried it? How did it went? I’m thinking of getting another Akita, to keep company to the one I already have. I know Akitas are territorial, that’s why I would like an opinion. She’s the only dog I have ever had! Of course I would do all the training to this new puppy dog as I had with her!!

Don’t worry, she got some ice cream afterwards and we made up hah!

I was wondering if anybody has had any problems with the Akita’s eyes I have three long-haired Akita’s and I’ve been noticing a lot of problems lately with the eyes open to comments

Has any of you experienced significant weight gain in your dogs after surgery? (Spay)

I'm starting to think more and more that she has a hormonal problem due to: 1) her attitude, and 2. I know hormones can cause weight gain.

She wasn't SLIM before, but she's gaining a lot more fat. I'll try making her walks longer. But she eats the same as she normally does (4 cups a day ÷ 2), and she seems hungrier AND is getting fatter. I can still feel her ribs, but I don't want her to become obese... As someone who prides myself on her being fit... I just... Idk. I know the surgery didn't go well, and it was hard on her. But I don't wanna add being fat to her problem as well.

He is roughly 30% American Akita, 30% Alaskan Husky and 30% APBT. Low percents of Boxer and Siberean Husky are mixed in there as well.
