Bike share is coming back to the city in the Spring of 2027. The city is going to place 8 Lyft bike share stations in the West End as part of a three-year pilot, and this tool allows you to place where you think it would be most impactful (one each will be at Seaplane, Main St, and Woodstock ferries, five others are up for slotting).

The pilot program in Alameda is funded by the Alameda County Transportation Commission and will provide transportation options during construction of the Oakland Alameda Access Project (OAAP).The goal of the bike share pilot is to provide first- and last-mile transportation options across the Oakland Estuary between the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle and San Francisco Bay Ferry to destinations in West Alameda during OAAP construction in the Posey Tube.

In a docked bike share system, users must take and return bikes from fixed docking station locations rather than park at any bike rack. The pilot program in Alameda will have eight docking stations, located at Seaplane Lagoon and Main Street ferry terminals, the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle, and near destinations and businesses on the West End. Community outreach and technical analysis in late summer and early fall 2026 will determine exact locations for the five non-water transit docking stations.

Hey y’all, I’m moving to East Bay soon, and I’ve always loved hanging in Alameda when I come to visit friends in the Bay Area. It seems like an awesome spot to live.

Do any of y’all commute to Berkeley (where I’ll be working) via public transit? Looks like a bus to a BART station, which doesn’t look too bad, but I’m curious about first hand perspectives. Also, what’s it like driving if there are days you have to drive from Alameda to Berkeley and back during AM/PM rush hour?

Hey everyone, i just moved here and I am in the process of getting medical insurance for the area. After reading reviews on hospitals, specifically alameda hospital and highland hospital, I’m a little worried in case an emergency happens.

What hospitals do you recommend to get adequate care within the east bay area.

I share a fence with four different neighbors. A portion of the fence is currently in very bad shape—if this neighbor hadn't planted so much bamboo, I think it would already have fallen over into his yard. I'm very concerned about the upcoming El Niño forecast and would like to get the fence squared away before the rainy season; I've gotten estimates. However, I haven't been able to get in touch with this neighbor. He hasn't been available and I even tried sending a letter with a photo of the fence. In years past, he was quite responsive. I looked him up online on one of those people search sites and it indicated he is in his 90s. I don't know who's handling his affairs or if he's even living in the house at this point.

I would prefer to have the neighbor help pay the costs of the fence, but if I'm unable to reach him, should I just bite the bullet and figure this is yet another cost of home ownership? Has anyone dealt with a similar situation before? Can I legally just have the work done without notifying him?

Does anyone have recommendations for downspout repair/replacement in Alameda/East Bay?

With the projected wet winter we're expected to have, I want to replace my rube-goldberg-like setup with something I don't need to constantly worry about. Would love any recommendations before I search google reviews, yelp, etc...

Last week’s report exceeded my word limit, and I could not cover the “Monsters” part of my report. So, I want to start where I left off last week with that topic after providing a short MOUF FOR MAYOR campaign report. Signs and stickers continue to appear in Alameda. I even got a request for a sticker from a north bay resident and one from Washington state.

I have plenty of stickers available and there are a few signs available. I am asking for a $50 donation to the Starfish fund at FAAS to support the emergency vet fund. Special thanks to my friend Teresa for placing my sign so artistically in her front yard. I love how the trees flank the sign giving it more stature.

Now, on to the monsters. If you are driving on Lincoln Avenue around 9^th Street, check out the cool dragon boat in the front yard and the dragon head sitting on the front porch.

Meanwhile, in another part of town, a mini-Jurassic Park appeared on the porch. Fortunately, there was no T-Rex in sight, so everyone is safe for the moment. However, I am resting easier knowing that the Caped Crusader is watching over us. He hangs out (literally) on the light post at the corner where Central and Alameda Avenues come together. You can drop by and say hi, but don’t expect a reply.

Several weeks ago, I walked by this house that was flying some type of flag or banner that something to do with soccer. Does anyone know the significance of this flag?

While walking along Lafayette Street last weekend, I came across this grand balloon arch as part of an engagement party. I elected to “engage” in using it. It was Winston Churchill that said something like, “Never let a good crisis go to waste.” Well, I believe you should never let a good balloon arch go to waste.”

I received a few comments from readers that prompted me to think about the difference between a memento and something that simply marks the end of an activity, procedure, etc. In consulting with BarkGPT, the best word to describe the object that signifies the end of something is a capstone. Literally, it is the last piece of masonry that goes on a building signifying the end of construction. However, it is also an adequate to serve as a metaphor for non-construction activities.

My HC no longer needs the ice machine he used as a cold compress when he had his two partial knee replacements. Passing this machine onto the next individual is the capstone of his recovery from the second surgery. Fortunately, it is not the capstone of its use as a wine chiller. We have a home with a few awkward small spaces that we’d love to make better use of, and buying cabinets off the rack for those spaces is proving difficult. Would love to know if anyone has worked with a local woodworker / carpenter to do some customs cabinetry in their homes!

Our elderly neighbor recently passed away, leaving behind her lovely cat, Gizmo. My partner and I unfortunately can’t care for him long term as we have our own kitties, so we’re hoping to find him a good home. We’re looking to see if my parents can foster him short term, but something longer term (preferably permanent!) would be lovely! He is microchipped and has paperwork. He is very sweet, very vocal, and very fluffy. He hasn’t lived with other cats, so we’re seeing an adjustment period, however he is very friendly with humans. He is fixed, and has his shots. Interested DM’s only please!

Edit: Unfortunately he had to be surrendered to the local shelter, but he should be able to find a good home!

I noticed the narrow lanes few weeks ago, have to be super careful if you are in the left lane ...

Also the right lane is a tad narrower now with the new concrete barriers.

I am born and raised in San Francisco and am considering moving back to the Bay Area to care for my dad and some other older relatives.

Here’s the thing: My husband, 6-year-old daughter and I have been living in The Netherlands for the last 3 years. I love it here and wouldn’t consider leaving if I didn’t feel a pull to be there for family as they get on in age.

After some research, Alameda seems like the only place that might be the right spot but I have some questions for those who are familiar with the area.

First, can we get around the whole island (and then some) via bicycle? We love the Dutch biking culture and would like to bring that to where we live as much as possible.

Second, how do children’s play dates work there? One thing I love about here is that so often we have an impromptu after-school play date where my daughter will go home with another child and their parent or vice versa. It’s very chill and easy. Is it like that in Alameda or is there more of a formal plan that generally needs to be decided well in advance?

Are there lots of only children in Alameda or is it more of a large family-size place?

If there is anything else you think I should be considering regarding this possible move, I’d love to hear from you! This is a tough decision as I’m sure you can imagine.

The Port of Oakland penned an agreement Thursday with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that advances a $640 million plan to bring larger, more modern ships to the city’s commercial docks. The freshly minted design agreement allows the port’s Turning Basins Widening Project to move out of the study phase, with construction scheduled to start sometime in 2028 and to wrap up in 2030.

Looks like the existing buildings on Mitchell Ave will need to be removed?

Hey there, I moved to the island recently, looking to make friends that are into hiking, walking and exploring the Bay Area. Not really a foodie, prefer to spend my time outdoors and cook at home.

I work in downtown SF M-F until about 5p. I’m also a CPA and work in finance/consulting. I’m fairly active and usually down for spontaneous adventures. I have a car so distance is not a problem for me. I’m an INTP if that matters haha.

This may be silly, but I can't stop thinking about the Alameda Dads' 4x4 group that was in the parade, the only issue being I'm definitely not a dad. It got me thinking, though, surely there are more overlanding groups around?

My concern is I'm not super experienced, but would love to learn and would feel much more comfortable/safer going out with folks who've done it before instead of going on my own. Are there other groups on Alameda or that you know of locally that are accepting new people? Or if there was someone out there that was thinking about pioneering a new Alameda group, hopefully I could be a catalyst to make it happen?! Any leads are appreciated, thanks ya'll!

Saw a bunch of boats under tow into the Bellena Bay Marina this AM. Anyone know why?

Hi everyone! I’m relocating from Chicago to Alameda for work and could really use some local advice on finding a rental.
My partner and I are looking for a 2–3 bedroom house, townhouse, or condo, and we have two dogs. We’ve been checking Zillow and Redfin, as well as local property managers like Alameda Rentals and Cerda-Zein, but it feels like good listings disappear within minutes!
For those who know the Alameda rental market: what’s the best way to find a place? Are there other local property managers, websites, or resources we should be watching? Is driving around and looking for “For Rent” signs still a thing in Alameda?
Any recommendations, leads, or advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!!

I like Alameda. It has some cool places to hang out on Park St. and Webster St. but it feels more small town like with kids and parents. I'm not really sure if it's a good fit for someone who is single.
