Hoi iedereen! Ik wil graag een klein boekenclubje in Amsterdam oprichten en ik ga het via deze manier proberen. Ik ben op zoek naar een wat kleiner groepje, van ongeveer 5/6 mensen. Vooral omdat ik meer over boeken wil praten, maar ook om nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten en om nieuwe vrienden te maken.

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone who was around Korte Leidsedwarsstraat / Leidseplein in the early hours of Sunday 30 August may have witnessed an incident or have footage that could help.

At approximately 04:11, shortly after my two friends and I left Jimmy Woo, I was physically assaulted by a man on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat.

A small group of men had approached us on the street. After we continued walking, one of the men picked me up, lifted me off the ground and threw me onto the street.

I was shocked and tried to take a photograph of him with my phone. As I pointed my phone towards him, he struck me hard on the right side of my head, causing my phone to fall out of my hand onto the street.

My friends came towards me immediately. One of them stood between me and the group and repeatedly told them to go away. We then left because we felt unsafe.

There were a lot of people on the street when this happened, so I’m hoping someone may remember seeing us or the incident.

What we looked like:
We are three 22-year-old women. I am a Black woman and was wearing a dark-purple strapless/bandeau mini dress with blue high heels. One friend, approximately 5’7”, was wearing a black corset-style mini dress and heels. My other friend, approximately 5’2”, was wearing a tan/brown animal-print mini dress with heels.

Description of the man:
Approximately late 30s/early 40s, around 1.80m (5’11”), average build, light complexion, possibly Arab/North African, dark/black hair, dark-brown eyes and some facial hair/stubble. He was wearing an open beige jacket with a white shirt underneath.

Direction afterwards:
My friends and I continued towards Cinecenter (Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 10). The man went in the opposite direction, back along Korte Leidsedwarsstraat towards/past the Jimmy Woo side.

I made a formal report to Amsterdam Police the following day. I also have an original timestamped and geotagged Live Photo taken during the incident at approximately 04:11, which establishes the time and location, see image included.

I’m particularly looking for:

• Anyone who witnessed the assault
• Anyone who happened to record something on their phone
• Residents/businesses with CCTV, entrance cameras or doorbell cameras facing Korte Leidsedwarsstraat
• Footage showing the man before or after the assault, particularly as he walked away in the opposite direction to Cinecenter

If you have a camera covering this area, please check approximately 03:56–04:26 on Sunday 30 August and, most importantly, please preserve the footage so it isn’t automatically overwritten. I completely understand that you may not be able to send CCTV directly to me — it can be provided to Amsterdam Police.

Has anyone else been finding these large moths inside their apartament? From what I’ve found, they’re called large yellow underwings. I have never seen them before and now all of a sudden I’ve hunted like 8 of them in the past two weeks. They’re huge and make a lot of noise when they fly. I’m trying to figure out if it’s some kind of season for these guys or if there’s something going on in my apartment…

I've been wanting to casually get into a bit of calligraphy for personal use like journaling and such. I haven't done a ton of research, but here's where I'm at:

- probably metal nib as I don't think I could properly upkeep a natural feather tip for it

- I'd still like it to have a feather for the aesthetic

- inkwells I assume are not as variable / more of an independent choice

- as for the ink, I've read the I probably want to avoid acrylic for its runniness, but beyond that I'm not sure what's good

- I'd love to write in a notebook rather than a scrap book or a typical tear-off block, but I understand that it needs a special type of paper to prevent the ink from bleeding through or spreading on the page

I'd greatly appreciate advice / info, and also if there are any stores in Amsterdam that actually sell these things specifically, or if it's better to order them online. I've tried De Vlieger on Amsel street but they didn't seem to have them.

I realise this is a long shot but I left a Vintage camera at this ferry stop back in 2014 and Id love if anyone found it. Id visited the STRAAT museum building (which used to just house a giant fake town like the one in the film Synedoche New York) and was crossing back over to the main city.

I believe I left it outside the cafe pictured. And it looked similar to the camera above but wasnt this exact brand of one.

Hello! I recently moved to the Netherlands. I used UGG boots for winters in the Norway and Switzerland but was trying to venture a bit more. I was looking for recommendations for water proof, slip proof (now that it’s snowing more in the winter) boots. I would prefer calf length (mid calf) or ankle length boots. I will be living in the Netherlands but also travelling to much colder countries including the northern parts of Norway and was hoping I could buy boots that I can use for both cases (I was able to do this with my Uggs although I would’ve preferred if they were a bit more slip proof). I will be travelling to New York so I can buy one of the North American brands that are there. Are there any recommendations for this?

In andere woorden zegt de gemeente dus eigenlijk: zoek het tijdens de staking maar lekker uit.

Ik begrijp dat het openstellen van de tunnel risico’s met zich meebrengt en daarom niet zomaar kan. Maar de metro of de Schellingwouderbrug aanwijzen als alternatief voor de circa 80.000 reizigers die normaal de pont gebruiken? Dat is toch nauwelijks een serieus alternatief te noemen.

Voor mij legt dit vooral weer pijnlijk bloot hoe kwetsbaar de verbinding tussen Noord en de rest van Amsterdam nog altijd is. We noemen Amsterdam graag een wereldstad, maar zijn er in al die jaren niet in geslaagd iets basaals als een vaste fiets- en voetgangersverbinding over of onder het IJ te realiseren. Ik weet dat daar allerlei redenen, belangen en technische uitdagingen achter zitten, maar het blijft eigenlijk absurd. Helemaal gezien de groei plannen voor Noord.

De pont is charmant voor een toerist, maar voor dagelijks vervoer is het een behoorlijk ouderwetse oplossing. Je bent afhankelijk van vaartijden, moet vrijwel altijd 5-10 min wachten, en het IJ blijft daardoor letterlijk een fysieke barrière tussen Noord en de rest van de stad.

Na inmiddels zes jaar vrijwel dagelijks de pont te hebben gebruikt, betrap ik mezelf er regelmatig op dat ik tijdens het wachten denk: met een brug was ik nu al aan de overkant geweest. Tel al die minuten over zes jaar eens bij elkaar op.

Sorry voor de rant, maar als Noorderling en dagelijks gebruiker moest dit me even van het hart.

Hello, as my house is not very big, I am planning to hire a company to build a garden office, officially a shed. I sent several emails to companies I found, but only one replied. I was a little surprised by the price, around €20k to €30k including installation and everything else, but according to them, this would also add value to the house.I also read that no permit is required if the garden shed is smaller than 15 m2.
Do you have any advice or anything I should take into consideration before starting the project?

Wtf is going on in Amsterdam west ? It is around three hours since I hear an extremely loud and annoying sound, like a car horn. I clearly hear in the bos en lommer area.

Het Parool schrijft over de snelle groei van het aantal elektrische auto’s in Amsterdam. Niet alleen het aantal laadpalen moet meegroeien, ook het elektriciteitsnet en de beperkte openbare ruimte vormen steeds grotere uitdagingen.

Interessant is dat Amsterdam elektrisch rijden wil stimuleren, maar tegelijkertijd het autogebruik wil terugdringen.

I am currently searching for a room in Amsterdam. It is unbelievable how many room offerings I come across where registration on the address is not possible. Should that not be illegal? And regardless, you as tenant expose yourself to so much risk, you can be literally thrown out on the streets anytime. Why are there so many such offerings? Do the registered people live somewhere else, or do they illegally sublet? And are the people willing to take these offerings that desperate? I know the market is insane, but I come across this so often that I wonder why is this allowed. I refuse to believe that the gemeente does not know about this, yet does not do anything to combat it. Rant over.

Amsterdam, 30 Years Ago.

when leaving AMS yesterday, I expected to see a kiosk requiring me to check out like I did when I came in on the train but they let me off in the arrivals with all other departing passengers. I guess I needed to look for that check out station but I didn't know and didn't see it and didn't think to look for it. As I was leaving for the US, I saw a rejected charge for 33.30 on my debit card. I tried to fix it before the flight left but didn't have enough time. I set up an account like they told me to buy I can't access the trip without paying the rejected card charge and it looks like the only way to resolve it is to fund the card, pay the penalty, hope I can access the trip then, do the manual check out and then hope they refund the penalty charge. I couldn't call them because my phone service does not include international calls. I already tried the chat bot but couldn't reach an English agent for another 20 minutes and my plane was departing before then.

Updated for anyone else who has this issue in the future. I decided to install the OVPay app, even though I would probably not need it again anytime in the near future. Then, I had to add a payment card, so I added my now-funded Revolut card, found the trip again with the NLOV transaction number recorded on the Revolut transaction history. Then, I was finally able to "check out" and record the station that I checked out. And, the new amount immediately charged to my card. Now I just have to purchase back my remaining Euros so I can use the money for something else - or leave them there for my next trip.

Ik ben 23 jaar, woon momenteel nog bij mijn ouders en sta nu op nummer 1 voor een jongerenwoning in Amstelveen.

Ik twijfel of ik de woning moet aannemen. Aan de ene kant lijkt het me een mooie kans om op mezelf te gaan wonen en heb je voor 5 jaar een woning. Aan de andere kant woon ik nu nog thuis en kan ik daardoor natuurlijk veel meer sparen. Als ik de jongerenwoning neem, gaat een flink deel van mijn inkomen naar huur en vaste lasten.

Qua punten maak ik me iets minder zorgen, omdat ik weet dat ik die weer kan opbouwen. Mijn grootste twijfel is eigenlijk of het financieel en qua toekomstperspectief slim is om nu al uit huis te gaan, terwijl ik thuis relatief veel kan sparen.

Daarom ben ik vooral benieuwd naar mensen die in dezelfde situatie hebben gezeten: jong, nog bij je ouders wonen en toen de keuze hadden tussen een jongerenwoning aannemen of nog een aantal jaar thuis blijven.

Wat hebben jullie uiteindelijk gedaan en hoe kijken jullie daar achteraf op terug? Was het de moeite waard om de jongerenwoning te pakken, of hadden jullie achteraf liever langer thuisgebleven en gespaard?

Ben vooral benieuwd naar jullie persoonlijke ervaringen.
