I love how nobody is stupid. Edward? Still tracking Vicky even though the royals told Jeffery that they'd back off and aware of everything she has been up to including the prison break.

Jeffery? Fully aware that Vicky's story adds up to her being an AWOL operative but is unsure what to do about it on account of his feelings.

Nonna? Observant enough of people's mannerisms to go along with the adoption tryout to smooth things over while also getting out of dodge the moment the six nights were up and things were getting more weird.

And of course Vicky for figuring out what was up with Miles and realizing time was up. Poor Jeffery though, Vicky correctly knew that it was time to run but that doesn't help a broken heart.

u/ifucatchmydrift 14d ago

I've appreciated the slow reveal that not everyone is stupid as well.

Of course it was fully revealed here, but the hints prior - teasing as to whether it was the organization closing in, or the prince - were done well.

Poor Jeffrey...

u/omarous_III 12d ago

Poor Jeffrey...

I have a theory that back in episode 5, she told Jeffrey how to find her when she talked about Cadiz. That was so out of context for the scene at the time, I thought she must be giving him a message. Maybe if he thinks about it, it will know how to track her down. This show is so well written.

u/SuperWolf 11d ago

I had the same thought.

20

u/flamethrower2 14d ago

That noble family is getting punished; the prince was informed about their conduct. But the story isn't about them, so we won't ever see it.

14

u/killertortilla 12d ago

First show I've seen in a LONG time where nobody is braindead.

5

u/athrun_1 12d ago

They could actually end the series here and continue in S2. This has a similar vibe with 86 S1.

4

u/Mindless-Care9301 11d ago

Was surprise that Edward was actually investigating Vicky in the shadow, he's even better than the royal's investigator hahaha

Poor Jefferey, and luckily Nonna able to escape from Hansons, that family is lowkey crazy and creepy.

Also love how everyone is being considerate and acceptance, like they didn't burst out to ask dumb questions or blame Jefferey for not knowing where Vicky goes

2

u/Voeri 9d ago

I really like animes that don't see the watcher stupid

97

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 14d ago

Really enjoying this show, everyone is so smart. Yet the characters are still able to outsmart others, and it's not because they're stupid.

I hope Nonna is still with Vicky; we didn't see where Nonna is.

60

u/Frontier246 14d ago

We're so used to anime characters being dense and taking "I'm a former tomboy" at face value but Jeffrey actually figured everything out...and so did his brother.

I'm not surprised that Vicky finally left when she realized the heat was onto her, even if it meant leaving the Captain behind, but did she take Nonna with her when she still has that fever? How aware is Nonna of them basically escaping? She'd pretty much go along with everything Vicky told her, but she'd want to know why at least.

21

u/fireburn97ffgf 14d ago

The only reason why I think she took her is I feel like someone would of checked on her, at least Jeffrey

20

u/Intelligent_Form5743 14d ago

No note left behind for her neither so she gotta be with her everyone she knew around there was connected someway somehow

3

u/athrun_1 12d ago

I think it is safe to assume that she took off with her. It is kinda complete 180 if in the early part of the ep, she is dead worried and then in the ending she will just leave noona.

24

u/LaoWombat-mecha 14d ago

More than any other show this season, I find myself unable to look away during these episodes. There is almost no filler material.

13

u/Furin 13d ago

There were two passports in the hidden compartment of her drawer, she 100% took Nonna with her.

13

u/memelordbtw3000 13d ago

Nonna is with Vicky she's been ride on die this entire time and she's mentioned planning her escapes with Nonna in mind though i do wonder if Nonna will get worse on the road and that's the reason for Vicky to return

20

u/BosuW 13d ago

If anything I feel like Vicky was the dumbest character in the cast, she really made a lot of mistakes lol.

But it makes sense because the whole point of her running away was to never have to do spy/assassin shit again, so it tracks that her guard was down.

5

u/mywif4aiur 12d ago

It's cool that we get to see that her guard is down and even she knows it's happening because of Nonna and Jeff. Then Vicky decides it's too low, and it's time to reset.

2

u/Mindless-Care9301 11d ago

To be honest i didn't think jefferey to find out this soon hahaha, thought he's so deep in love and wait till edward told him about everything

77

u/Cyouni 14d ago

Man, that's just brutal.

It's nice to see a show with everyone realistically competent enough to pick up on all the clues Victoria left.

45

u/Organic_Machine_2324 14d ago

Oh wow they are actually competent she might be in troub…. and she has escaped.

36

u/goosis12 14d ago

It was really great to see everybody putting clues together and thinking up plans on what steps to take, only for Victoria to up and run and throw everything into chaos.

I also loved how Nonna learned a lot more from Victoria without her realizing and how incredible blunt she is in trying to get Victoria and the captain together.

20

u/flamethrower2 14d ago

And she knows they know, hence she left.

  • His Brother Attacking Her

His brother didn't attack her, that was one of the princes.

  • Them Locking up an innocent Man

He wasn't innocent. He was perhaps justified, but he also did attempt to murder someone

8

u/Radi-kale 13d ago

Carl certainly wasn´t innocent though. Also, it was Victoria's own choice to accept Jeffrey's invitation to the ball

16

u/startingfromlevel0 13d ago edited 13d ago

She left too many clues and didn't prepare a proper backstory for them. But yeah, this was indeed brutal. I thought they would drag this on or she takes their help to take a stand(from the current place) against the organization (second one is more of a wishful thinking from my part as I don't want chole and jeff to break up Or just didn't want her to leave the people she got close to).

10

u/BosuW 13d ago

Anime trained me to expect they'd really buy the "I was a tomboy" bs. I was surprised lol

79

u/Organic_Machine_2324 14d ago

They really planted a spy next door and expected her not to feel threatened lol.

It’s sad she has fled but it’s realistic and i appreciate it in that sense.

I obviously assume she took Nonna with her.

49

u/reaperow 14d ago

She's probably going to stay in a new place for now and assume a new identity,

Does fit the "of many faces" thing in the title

23

u/Jorvikstories 14d ago

Shouldn't the name then be "Chloe of many faces"? You know, since she probably can't go around using Victoria Sellars anymore. Though now as I think of it, perhaps it could work like she talks about herself as "Victoria," because she has fond memories of being called by that name.

But I really like the premise of her running away taking new identities each season. Of course with a certain eligible bachelor looking for her.

14

u/Radi-kale 13d ago

I think Chloë is a code name as well

12

u/ernest314 14d ago

I think "many faces" is an idiom (or idiom-adjacent), e.g. "to put on a sad face"

obviously the spy thing too, but this makes more sense to me

3

u/PinkGlitterLady4 13d ago

Spies are usually given new names as well

1

u/Shantotto11 11d ago

On the next episode of Cassandra of Many Faces

1

u/guntanksinspace 9d ago edited 9d ago

Surely she's got that black wig finished up by now. Just in time.

21

u/ShzMeteor 14d ago

Yeah, I think Victoria delaying her escape (rather than abandoning her characteristic caution in order to stay) is much more effective at showing how the former master spy appreciated her new environment.

2

u/killertortilla 12d ago

I was kind of expecting her to knock on the captain's door with a different hair colour and glasses.

62

u/Sleepy10105s 14d ago

I wasn’t ready for her to cut and run like that. I honestly thought we were going to keep building up moments where she thought about if she should, until there was a confrontation or just before she would be confronted.

58

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Honestly I think the moment she nearly lost Nonna and realized Miles was spying on her was when she knew she needed to get out of there.

Even if Edward was willing to give her some leeway for Jeffrey's sake, she has no idea about that and probably thinks it's safer to cut and run...even if it meant leaving behind the most full life she's ever experienced.

47

u/TheBusStop12 14d ago

And Edward admitted to himself that dependent on which organisation she ran from, if they came knocking he might be forced to hand her over regardless. Victoria probably realized this as well and thus it just simply was no longer worth the risk

18

u/mekerpan 14d ago

Alas she did not realize that Miles was more an observer (and a protector) than a "spy".

14

u/BosuW 13d ago

In her former craft, you have to make choices quickly. Freezing is the worst you could do.

94

u/Primary-Paint-1716 14d ago

I really like the writing of this show. It shows the important details and trusts the viewer to fill in the gaps. The characters also act accordingly to the motivation of their characterization. It's an amazing show that I wish wasn't gonna end in 2 fucking episodes.

61

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju 14d ago

It's an amazing show that I wish wasn't gonna end in 2 fucking episodes.

Good thing i learned that this is only 9 episode now and not in 2 weeks.

21

u/Jorvikstories 14d ago

Lucky you, I know it is going to be 9 episodes, but I didn't check the episode number and somehow forced myself to think that this was the last episode. I would probably throw my Mac out of the window if it was so.

27

u/ImmediateFondant4615 14d ago

Defenestrate your Mac? In this economy?

5

u/Jorvikstories 13d ago

Upvote for the word defenestrate, pouty face for not understand my joke.

15

u/BBryant3rd 13d ago

What the heck? 9 episodes?

30

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Also the characters relationships and dynamics can be surprisingly complex, like Victoria and Miles' relationship or Edwards' feelings towards Victoria as an agent of the kingdom/Jeffrey's brother.

23

u/mekerpan 14d ago

I've read some earlier LNs by the same author -- and they had intriguing aspects, the story-telling was sometimes a bit awkward. The story-telling here has, so far, been near flawless.

22

u/TheBusStop12 14d ago

So it's someone who has always had great ideas, and over time learned how to properly put these ideas into words and connect them. That's nice

11

u/mekerpan 14d ago

Seems that way

19

u/monsieurvampy 13d ago

It's an amazing show that I wish wasn't gonna end in 2 fucking episodes.

WHAT THE HECK!?? This better be because of a season 2 and this is where the arc nicely ends.

I'm absolutely picking up the LNs after this. From my cursory research, it looks like this covers book 1, so there's lots ahead.

9

u/Intelligent_Form5743 14d ago

Yea it’s for those with common sense 💯 and logic the characters are smart themselves which makes it amazing to watch

3

u/memelordbtw3000 13d ago

THERES ONLY 2 MORE EPISODES WHAT THIS IS PEAK AND THEY ONLY GAVE IT NINE EPISODES.

I am genuinely distraught wtf

3

u/BosuW 13d ago

I just love that none of it drags or is superfluous. It's a low-key story but it's never boring or uninteresting, and that's because the writing is actually very calculated so that everything is meaningful. I dunno how good the LNs are, but at least the series composition and screenplay did a great job.

3

u/VritraReiRei 13d ago

Shit, I forgot it's only 9 episodes! No wonder the Captain is already piecing stuff together already. I thought he was smart but no, they are preparing for the finale!

3

u/ElectricStarfuzz 13d ago

Only 9 episodes? Nooooo 🥺😭😔

I want the whole story!

I’m not usually one for reading source material, but for this one I may just have to do that.

It’s become increasingly dear to my heart and I’m fully invested in the lives of Victoria/Vicky, Nonna, Jefferey, and all the others.

2

u/depresizz 13d ago

fuckin hell i actually felt what the people around them felt. all of that connection vicky's building only to just throw it away like that. and 9 episodes? are you serious 😭

43

u/Sleepy10105s 14d ago

I didn’t expect the old man to still be active duty

28

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Still got a weak hip though, poor guy. But I guess that's what he gets for spying on her lol.

3

u/mywif4aiur 12d ago

Until "hip" showed up in the subtitles, I was sure the old man was kicked at full strength in his gonads.

1

u/athrun_1 12d ago

She made sure Miles won't be able to go after her, just in case.

22

u/mekerpan 14d ago

I wonder if he was actiually still in active status -- or was just temporarily recalled to be Victoria's watch dog?

33

u/Jorvikstories 14d ago

I think it was that they found their eligible bachelors damn you Jeffrey elder soldiers and decided "huh, Miles has a lot of time on his hands, HEY MILES, HOW ABOUT YOU GO LIVE ON A FARM TAKING CARE OF HORSES AND SPY ON A PRETTY YOUNG WOMAN FOR FEW WEEKS?" and he was like "yeah, sure"

11

u/Barangat 13d ago

Ain‘t got nothing better to do anyways

4

u/BosuW 13d ago

You can't trust anyone in this biz man...

2

u/guntanksinspace 9d ago

Man's still sharp as fuck. Though maybe not sharp enough to take kicks to the inner thigh/dangerously close to the groin, Vicky was going for killshots even in a light spar

82

u/KumaKumaGambler 14d ago

I want to buy Jeffrey a beer, sit down, and support him silently.

Everyone close to Vicky was shocked and saddened by her sudden departure. Yet Jeffrey has to keep a strong face when delivering the letters to everyone.

40

u/Frontier246 14d ago

They just had to have her leave so soon after his mom asked to meet her just to add injury to insult...

Honestly felt like he needed to take up the duty of hand delivering the letters to work through his own grief at losing her by commiserating/dealing with others' losses before he finally dealt with the pain of reading HIS letter.

30

u/szalhi 14d ago

Moment before bwah.

"Get a move on" Is what she's saying. But, she doesn't know just how fragile the status quo is. It's this exact ignorance that makes her the one person who can easily stay with Vicky.

28

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Nonna Sellers: Master escape artist and amateur child burglar.

Honestly I feel like Nonna is going to be asking "where's Jeff?" or saying "I miss Jeff" while they're on the run and that's probably going to make Victoria feel even worse about leaving one of the best things to ever happen to her.

1

u/guntanksinspace 9d ago

I adore how much she's really learned from Vicky, even her being observant as fuck.

29

u/TheBusStop12 14d ago edited 14d ago

I'm really impressed with how perceptive Nonna is. She'd have a real knack for Victoria's lime of work. It makes a lot more sense now why she went along with the plan.

I also really appreciate that not a single door or window in Vickys house was left unlocked. It's a nice little detail because Vicky is too cautious to make such an easy mistake

Also Jeff and Miles were pretty cool this episode, being there for Victoria when she needed the distraction. Tho Miles is most likely doing it as part of his job keeping an eye on Victoria, he's still pretty cool. He kinda reminds me of The Iron Bull in Dragon Age Inquisition, who also wasn't really hiding that he was a spy and had a similar friendly cool tough guy disposition

I really like as well that Jeff figured out not just that Victoria is a spy, but specifically a runaway spy no longer on active duty. Jeff is a smart cookie. I like Jeff, he's a keeper. I feel bad for him tho, this can't be good for his abandonment issues

I'm curious how this all will work outside. It makes sense she went on the run as it's clear her cover was falling apart.

28

u/CodeXRaven 14d ago

I feel bad for those parents, but a kid isn't a doll you can just have over for a few days, unload a lot of emotionial baggage on, and then lock in a room to try and keep. Poor dear, what a terrifying situation.

At the end I'm left actually crying, I knew they'd prob have to leave eventually, and that it could happen at any moment, possibly without any goodbyes(I'm so glad they got to through letters at least). And she doesn't know her death was revealed as faked, so it's good she left now. But this sucks, it really really sucks. I really, truly, wanted them to be able to stay there forever 😭. I hope they get to stay at the next place for a long time and make good healthy connections like this again.

Oh golly the door closing on the last time she ever saw him, having to keep her usual expressions going.

13

u/karer3is 14d ago

You're certainly more charitable than me when it comes to those two... pretty much from the moment they laid eyes on her, Nonna was little more than a prize for them to acquire.

12

u/Greg_The_Rabbit 14d ago

Weirdly I hate their made more than anyone. Vicky did a nice thing for her, giving up the apple tart just for the sake of being kind. She had absolutely no reason to report Nonna to them. She had to have known what was going to happen! She basically set a child up for being kidnapped by two traumatized nobles for absolutely no reason.

3

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 10d ago

I made a comment on how moving around too often really isn't good for children in the pre-telephone era. Studies have shown that children are less sociable when moved around compared to children with sedentary families if their parents don't have a landline (this study existed before cell phones). Victoria running away with Nonna is somewhat selfish and arguably bad parenting. The only reason I say "arguably" is a lack of suitable people to look after Nonna after she disappear.

As we see the nobles are a bunch of pricks treading Nonna little more than a dress up doll to replace their dead daughter. The mother said they should respect Nonna's wishes and let her decide, but apparently was fine just locking her up. Yeah whatever they were like 6 years ago, by now their personalities are broken. Vicotria disappearing with Nonna is probably the least bad outcome for Nonna among those where she flees.

Funny thing is the author missed a chance to give Victoria a dilemma. So say Nonna just decides to leave one night early because it was boring and Baroness what's her name (I'm not making fun, I seriously can't remember) does what she said she would do and let Nonna decide. Well than that laves Vicotria in a pickle when she escapes. In that case the alternative to Victoria who will disappear and uproot Nonna, which as I mentioned is not good for developing children would be two nobles who treat Nonna as a doll but who nevertheless respect her wishes, as opposed to two jerks who don't really care what Nonna wants. Victoria would probably still take Nonna since Nonna gives her something to care for and that would reveal a lot about her. She might even knowledge this to herself.

27

u/hvshh 14d ago
  • Vicky, you could have just stopped that kick an inch from his hip. He would have known he lost.

  • That couple sucks. If Noona had gotten injured escaping it would have been 100% their fault. The animation on her rolling after the drop was adorable though.

  • I love shows where so many characters think about what's going on and act accordingly.

  • He didn't know she was so close to bailing, so it was a reasonable choice, but I wonder if Jeff is kicking himself over not having that conversation with Vicky.

6

u/Intelligent_Form5743 14d ago

All he can do is regret and hope to see her again

3

u/mywif4aiur 12d ago

Cedric spied on Vicky, got two broken ribs. Miles spied on Vicky, so broken hip.

49

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro 14d ago

Jeffrey got everything about Vicky bang on, from her being a spy to one that's a runaway instead of on an undercover assignment. As expected of a captain. Unfortunately, she decided to burn all the connections she's had with Ashbury*. Poor bloke's got his heart broken again. We'd likely to have him somehow locate and confront her.

*Did she really leave everything behind or did she bring Nonna with her. While she's nowhere to be seen when Vicky ran with the horse, it was just Jeffrey's imagery instead of the actual scene. I find it hard to believe Vicky would just leave Nonna behind after all that anguish she felt when Nonna's with the Hansons.

38

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 14d ago

There’s no way that Victoria would leave Nonna alone behind. Especially since the girl had previously been abandoned by her mother. She definitely made plans to escape with Nonna.

33

u/TheBusStop12 14d ago

Victoria mentioned earlier in internal dialogue that if she were to run, she'd take Nonna with her. She had decided that she's ride or die for Nonna and they'll always be together. My guess this is in part why she agreed to train Nonna

11

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Even Edward figured her out but seemed like he was more open to letting her go for his brothers' sake...but Victoria ends up abandoning him anyways.

17

u/Murky_Bit1487 14d ago

I hope that the next time Vicky returns to this city, she’ll come back as Chloé—finally free from the organization and the shadows of her past, ready to embrace a new life as Jeff’s future fiancée… ❤️

18

u/runevault 14d ago edited 14d ago

Yup they tried to force her to stay. I think every last person last week called it. "Them locking me in was an emergency." You're damn right Nonna, good girl.

Victoria planning on going and apologizing herself is kind of stupid for her. They tried to lock Nonna in why are you giving them another chance to be stupid without effort?

I wouldn't trust the things the Baron gave her. No magic that I can tell and obviously not high enough tech to bug anything, but I still wouldn't trust them. Everything about them screams creepy.

Nonna is the captain of the Vicky&Jeff ship, good girl!

Jeff's a sharp man, glad to see it. His logic is reasonable too.

Oh no Vicky made mistakes with her backstory. That's not going to go well for her. Though based on what others have said we've only got 2 more episodes after this to resolve things.

Poor Jeffrey and poor Nonna. Ugh this hurts. This seems to be the week for incredibly sad episodes, third gut punch in the last 2 days.

Edit: Did I not see her go back for Nonna or is it just assumed she went back for her and is carrying her off despite Nonna being sick?

20

u/KJatWork 14d ago

"Did I not see her go back for Nonna or is it just assumed she went back for her and is carrying her off despite Nonna being sick?"

We don't see her go back for her, but a couple things to consider.

  1. After what the both of them went through and Vicky's own experience with her parents, I don't believe her values could allow her to leave Nonna behind. It would make her like her parents and make Nonna like her as a child and I don't believe she could do that to Nonna after realizing how important Nonna is to her.

  2. No one mentioned Nonna as the episode wraps up. I do not believe all of them would have acted that way if Nonna had still been there, even being sick. Sitting on the patio leaving her alone inside? Riding off to deliver letters while Nonna lay in bed alone? I have to believe that Jeffrey would have immediately stepped in to help Nonna over playing mailman.

Basically, if she is still there, the author has a lot of explaining to do on why all his characters handled that situation in the worst possible ways.

2

u/runevault 14d ago

Fair, though they could be waiting for Nonna to stop being sick to tell her. To me not showing going back for her or showing her on the horse with Vicky (perhaps in place of one of the times we see Jeff riding to deliver another letter) feels weird as well.

5

u/Dr_Kitten 14d ago

Maybe they just didn't want to reveal Nonna of many faces' newly disguised appearance.

11

u/PracticalMarsupial 14d ago

I assumed Nonna is better, or at least no longer has a fever and can move. If everyone still thinks she's sick, then it seems like she's stuck for a while and the people who are expecting her to bolt have their guard down.

10

u/ernest314 14d ago

pretty sure she's better since Jeffery was helping take care of her and such; Vicky is just saying Nonna's sick to throw Miles off (in her last scene)

4

u/PracticalMarsupial 13d ago

This is my assumption, she seems to be there early and can be gone before most people will realize.

6

u/hvshh 14d ago

Victoria planning on going and apologizing herself is kind of stupid for her.

My first thought was "by 'apologize' do you mean 'threaten'?"

7

u/Jorvikstories 14d ago

Yeah, I thought it was the "burning the place down with my boyfriend" kind of apology.

5

u/karer3is 14d ago

They made some really weird time skips in this episode... despite the buildup from last episode, the whole situation pretty much fizzled out. However, I wouldn't be surprised if that noble family tries to rat out Victoria in an attempt to get Nonna back.

2

u/i_reddit_too_mcuh 13d ago

I wouldn't trust the things the Baron gave her. No magic that I can tell and obviously not high enough tech to bug anything, but I still wouldn't trust them. Everything about them screams creepy.

They're creepy for sure, but I'm thinking their giving up all that stuff is their own way of letting go too. After all, they kinda have to. From what Jeffrey told Victoria, those nobles were clearly informed that Victoria has backing.

18

u/thelemon8er-2 14d ago

I keep forgetting there’s only 2 eps left. I sure hope he leaves and finds her.

14

This was a very good episode :)

Jeff is such a supportive and kind person, I felt really bad for him at the end when he was heartbroken..

14

u/ultravioletheart08 14d ago

This is the best directed episode yet, and no wonder given Naoki Murata was the ED and that legend Kiyotaka Ohata worked on SB, they're not only keeping Nobukage Kimura's set aesthetics here (especially on the shift from anime 2D to manga grayscale 2D parts), also really brilliant use of lighting and camera angles highlighting Vicky's slowly setting herself apart and away from the people she lived with and cared for in those six months, particular a certain knight captain...

Also pretty sure she's not only Dear John'ed everyone, but especially has taken her dear Nonna away. Poor Jeff, he just wants to be with her and Nonna, too 😭

Can't believe we have two episodes left. This just went by really fast.

1

u/KillerCockapoo 12d ago

Wait... Only two episodes remaining, not 5?

2

u/ultravioletheart08 10d ago

Yes. It only has nine episodes.

Nonna-senchou: "By my command, sail this ship already!"

23

u/Frontier246 14d ago edited 13d ago

How is Victoria handling Nonna leaving? Not well! Just...wandering aimlessly, wet from the rain, as if her reason for being has been ripped away from her.

At least Jeffrey is there to reassure her that Nonna will come back. Intellectually, Victoria realizes Nonna didn't really ditch her without a plan in mind, but all the same...she's still a mom thinking her daughter might be better off with nobles than with her. But Jeffrey knows that Nonna wants to be with Vicky, and Victoria should understand that. Even so, it's good that she has Jeffrey with her now.

No better way to vent frustrations than beating up Miles during a sparring session, huh Victoria? Be mindful you're not abusing the elderly.

"If it were me, I would never let Nonna go!" - Dang Clark, that's practically a proposal!

I'm not surprised Victoria is ready for a break-in but lo and behold the person breaking in is...Nonna! Having escaped from the Baron with the skills she got from Vicky! Skills she's also used to beat up Clark.

Yeahhhhh....the moment they put on a lock on her room, were calling her the name of her dead daughter, and got REALLY weird around her, was probably the time for Nonna to get out of there. I get it, they never got over their daughters' death, Eva feels guilty because her son survived and theirs didn't, but trying to turn Nonna into Dolores isn't the answer. At least they don't make a fuss about dragging Nonna back, rather than just giving her all the stuff they intended for Dolores. Nonna doesn't care, but it makes Vicky think about her own parents.

Miles isn't just some friendly old dude, he's there to spy on Victoria! Of course a spy would notice too many coincidences in him showing up and interacting with her the way he did.

Ha! Nonna wants them to move in with Jeff. Jeff wants to introduce her to his mom! On some level Victoria wants it too...but she knows they can't, because the heat is on and she never intended to stay there.

Jeffrey's not dumb, he's put two-and-two together that Victoria is likely an ex-spy from a rival kingdom, but he would still be willing to throw his noble title away if it meant being with her. His brother, on the other hand, is with the Third Order of Knights and has also pretty much put two-and-two together about Victoria (and that she's likely the redhead behind the prison break) but he's torn between his duty to the kingdom and his love for Jeffrey as a brother.

I knew the moment she took that horse she wasn't coming back...and she left a bunch of letters behind to all her close associates. Poor Jeffrey gets Dear John'd AND has to deliver the letters to everyone else who will miss Victoria and can't believe she's gone. She and Nonna are gone and now Jeffrey has to pick up the pieces of losing yet ANOTHER woman he loved.

u/CodeXRaven 14d ago

All this 😭♥️

6

u/LaoWombat-mecha 14d ago

... Intellectually, Victoria realizes Nonna didn't really ditch her without a plan in mind, but all the same...she's still a mom thinking her daughter might be better off with nobles than with her.

So, what was Nonna's plan the Vicky and you alluded to? Just stay for 6 days and leave or something else that never got mentioned?

Also, why was the noblewoman so adamant that Vicky and Nonna not go back to the Baron's house? Are they even more suss than her subsequent story suggested?

25

u/runevault 14d ago

Theoretically the plan was to remove the one real complaint the Baron had, that she couldn't really know which she preferred unless she lived with them. So Nonna gave them the six days to prove themselves and remove that claim, then left. Luckily when they tried to trap her she knew how to flee out a window like she was Riche from 7th time loop.

8

u/memelordbtw3000 13d ago

Nonnas plan was to take the nobles words at face value and assume they'd leave her and Vicky alone after the 6 nights the lock on the door was an unexpected complication but not one she couldn't handle

And Eva likely cautioned Vicky on going there herself to prevent Nonna from just being kidnapped at the door

3

u/LaoWombat-mecha 13d ago

Right, but if she knows they are suss, maybe she should have told Vicky this at the beginning, before standing by and saying nothing because she felt sorry for them because she felt sorry for them over something she had no control over. You know, kinda "they're good people aside from kidnapping and delusional behavior."

(If you want to give someone a good example of a "run on sentence" please refer to above)

1

u/feb914 14d ago

Eva feels guilty because her son died and theirs didn't,

Did you mean survive?

26

u/Sleepy10105s 14d ago

Uh oh Jeff’s in trouble

24

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Lost another love of his life even after he practically begged her not to leave and stay with him...how much more can his heart take?

26

u/ShzMeteor 14d ago

The irony is that it was his friends and family who ultimately drove Victoria away through their (justified) suspicion and investigations.

9

u/mekerpan 14d ago

I wonder if he will seek a leave of absence to try to find his "found family"?

27

u/Zxzxzx0088 14d ago

Ofc Miles wants to keep going after Vicky latched on him that tight (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)

The face of 'innocent' girl

Although the locking door part was a bit unfair and horrific at the same time, I commend those parents for being thankful towards Vicky at the end instead of forcing their way through on getting Nonna back. All in all they treat Nonna better when she's there so it's a bit sad to imagine they have to separate with their 'child' again.

Crazy I totally believe in Miles backstory of being a former soldier. Vicky uncover him one by one even in depressed mode sends chills down to my spine...

This is what happened when you're being too competent. You guys are scaring the kitten away!! Dang, I love how nobody is stupid in this world, always keep their brains moving.

18

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Honestly Nonna is going to be a complete badass when she grows up. Is Clark ready for that?

I love how Edward figures out Victoria was behind the jailbreak because she's just too much of a main character not to have been involved.

7

u/flamethrower2 14d ago

No romance for Vicky, no romance for Nonna. It seems a waste to throw away Jeff at this point. I'm not a source material reader. I don't know what happens.

Children emulate, at least I think they do.

Vicky likes Jeff. Nonna realized that. I doubt it took spy-level observation skills.

8

u/dinliner08 14d ago

well damn...

that sure escalated quickly...

10

u/NanDemoKnaives 14d ago

It's sad to see Victoria finally decide to leave, it felt a little sudden because Nonna was still ill. Unless a good amount of time passed and it just wasn't conveyed clearly. I feel really bad for Jeffrey, he knew what he was getting himself into and was cautiously proceeding, but it still couldn't protect him from a sudden disappearance. Hopefully they'll reunite within these last two episodes.

Nonna escaping in the middle of the night is so concerning, I'm glad she's safe. I do like that she asked why Jeffrey couldn't just live with them, Nonna has already given her seal of approval, she wants her step-father lol.

I did enjoy seeing Jeffrey and Victoria having some time alone at dinner, but it'd be nice to get an occasion where circumstances are more positive next time.

I'm glad Miles wasn't with Victoria's brother, and he was a subordinate of Edward's.

14

u/Munsie 14d ago

Hopefully they'll reunite within these last two episodes.

But this was only episode 7, how could there possi-- Oh no. Learning it's not the full 12-13 eps is a bit of a bummer.

5

u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 14d ago

I got Victoria's mindset, but she is too focused on herself. She could have tried to ask for protection. But it is what it is. I bet she will get caught by her former organisation only to be saved by Jeffrey and Co.

4

u/LaoWombat-mecha 14d ago edited 14d ago

I wonder if something tipped her off that she was on someone's radar? The bartender, who may be an asset?

Like you, I wonder about Nonna, but you notice no one mentioned Nonna at all, no and she left her behind, or she's gone too?

Also, perhaps she is just going to teach certain people not to put locks on doors.

1

u/NanDemoKnaives 13d ago

Yeah I'm sure Nonna is with her, or I think we would have heard or seen she's with someone.

Poor dude

12

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Lost his first fiancé to suicide, loses his girlfriend and prospective step-daughter with a Dear John letter.

14

u/mekerpan 14d ago

Not really a Dear John letter. More a genuine apology thatt suggests she only left because she felt she (and Nonna) were in danger. It is sad that she could not yet trust him -- as she seemed to have plenty of powerful protectors. On the other hand, Victoria knows better than we do just how much of a threat her former associates might prove to be.

4

u/Jorvikstories 14d ago

Is Dear John an RDR2 reference, or something else?

14

u/mekerpan 14d ago

It is a letter sent to a soldier or sailor when they are off at war (or otherwise deployed faraway) from a girlfriend or fiancee saying she found someone new and is dumping him. An old term -- going back to the WW2 era

1

u/runevault 14d ago

Feels like I've barely seen the term since the TV show using the term for the name ended in '92.

6

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 14d ago

Felt so gutted for Jeff. The poor guy was being so careful but his worst fear still came true. Hope he can find Victoria and Nonna soon. Learning this isn't getting a full cour is just as sad, but oh well.

On a lighter note, I loved how proudly Nonna explained how she escaped from those nobles' house. Her little hmpfs were the cutest. Replayed that bit over and over. I'm not a big fan of kids irl or on TV, but Nonna truly is precious.

9

u/TurkeyPhat 14d ago

absolutely brutal end card

how could they do this us??

6

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 14d ago edited 13d ago

Yeah! It certainly stung to see the three of them together like a happy family in that end card.

Poor Jeffrey, though. I feel so incredibly bad for him. The one thing happened which he’d feared the most. Victoria’s sorry to Jeffrey was probably an apology for hurting him by disappearing like this too.

8

u/reaperow 14d ago edited 14d ago

I sympathize with the Baron and his wife but them doing those things to Nonna is messed up so im glad she was able to get away in time. She's definitely learnt some great escape tactics from being around Vicky lol,

Well it does looks like they came back to their senses and realized they were wrong to treat her like that.

Hopefully they can find some peace with their grief and move on,

I was actually surprised to see Victoria running away tho I understand why. Laying low for now is probably the best option for her

1

u/LaoWombat-mecha 14d ago

I wonder if they planted some stolen things among the clothes so that they could swoop in again because Vicky was a thief.

4

u/Nightzzv 14d ago

2 more episodes until this conclude.

I wonder how it will conclude.

Have the manga ended or is there reason why its listed as 9 episodes only

8

u/TheBusStop12 14d ago

My guess is that the arc they're adapting was realistically only good for 9 episodes. And the next arc couldn't be concluded in just 3-4 episodes. It's clear that they have very little budget so a second cour probably wasn't in the cards. And leaving off midway through an arc when the chances for a second season are unknywould be irresponsible. And stretching the existing arc would would mess with the pacing and make it feel stretched thin.

Sometimes a story just doesn't fit into the standard 12 episodes. And I'm glad that they didn't try to force it as that would just ruin it

3

u/PinkGlitterLady4 13d ago

They could have filled 12/13 episodes easily, they just had to adapt the LN as it is and include all of the scenes Studio Deen apparently deemed unnecessary. How they chose to connect the scenes is very clunky and alright at best, and I really wish they would have found a middle ground in keeping the story-relevant scenes but also showing enough interpersonal relations. Most of the latter are missing.

2

u/Gabbiiieeeeyyyyy 13d ago

Would you mind spoiling for me if/how Jeff and Vicky reunite? I tried Googling it but couldn’t find an answer 😭

2

u/TheBusStop12 13d ago

I haven't read the source myself, this is just a guess on my part

6

u/PinkGlitterLady4 14d ago

No, both the manga and the Light Novel are still ongoing

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 14d ago

It's sad that Victoria left with Nonna, there was definitely romance between herself and Jeffrey but I can't blame her for leaving.

She is a smart person and knows that things have gotten too dangerous at this point in time.

1

u/Voeri 9d ago

if they wont reunite in the upcomeing episodes i will riot

7

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 14d ago

I feel bad for that couple. They lost a kid and just couldn’t really move on. How do you even move on from something like that?

Vicky’s gotten a little too comfortable if so many people know about her. No surprise she had to book it. I’m sure Jeffrey’s gonna find her and Nonna no matter where they go. Power of love and all lol.

16

u/Frontier246 14d ago

I feel bad for that couple. They lost a kid and just couldn’t really move on. How do you even move on from something like that?

I would definitely not recommend taking in a lookalike child, treating her like the same child, and locking her up so she can't escape.

Vicky’s gotten a little too comfortable if so many people know about her. No surprise she had to book it. I’m sure Jeffrey’s gonna find her and Nonna no matter where they go. Power of love and all lol.

Even Edward called out her getting too relaxed and showing off her skills/resourcefulness too much. It also made it easy for Edward to peg her as the redhead in the prison break because who else could have pulled it off?

(I honestly thought he was riding to search everywhere for her instead of just delivering letters...)

1

u/TheBusStop12 14d ago

I would definitely not recommend taking in a lookalike child, treating her like the same child, and locking her up so she can't escape.

Yeah, that's incredibly unhealthy and the absolute wrong way to go about it. But it's also understandable why they would get to that point in the first place

8

u/mekerpan 14d ago

I actually feel much sorrier for the other folks who are going to grieve the loss of Vidtoria and Nonna.

3

u/reaperow 14d ago

I fully understand why they did those things not that i excuse it or anything. Grief can really change and effect u greatly

it's kind of their way of protecting the closest thing they have of their child

Nonna coming back in a very Nonna way. I like how perceptive Jeff is. It's really refreshing and worse he knew she would run if he got too close.

The episode did feel slightly disjointed as it transitioned from Nonna coming home to Victoria's departure. Curious where it will go in the final 2 episodes.

What the heck thats 2 anime so far this week that has a sad twist to the relationship we hoped for. Captain will probably have a hard time having a relationship in the future now. Lost two women in a row he cared about. Even tried not to fall for the second due to his past.

I'm gonna need someone to check on my boy Jeff. ༼;´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ༽

3

u/SilentLuix 13d ago

YES. I know some people will not like this decision and direction, but I love it. I was really waiting for Vicky to move on and didn't want the show to settle into a happy family yet, it's too early for that. I would loved to have a final face to face encounter with Jeff before parting away (to see Jeff decision and drama lol), but this is more like Victoria. Plus, like others said, I love that we finally get an anime where nobody is stupid or too dense.

3

u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 12d ago

When Jeffrey said to himself that he has to prepare to have himself stripped of all titles and quit his family name to become a commoner to have Victoria and Nonna live a normal life, that made me a Jeffrey fan.

I don’t think Jeffrey and Mr. Miles would have turned Victoria in. They wanted to protect her. Also Jeffrey’s brother definitely is not going to turn her either.

This has been a really good series and kinda bummed out that it’s only 9 episodes and not the usual 12. I hope Jeffrey finds her. Got a feeling that he and that guy who’s been hunting Victoria are going to have it out and if Jeffrey gets into trouble, Victoria will reappear to save him.

2

u/Entire_Extent_9137 14d ago

She's definitely going somewhere to grab medicine and come back.

2

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 14d ago

Wow Dolores' noble parents (I can't remember the countess' name at the moment) are a bunch of pricks. They just locked Nonna up in her room? What about letting the girl decide? Wasn't that what she said last episode? I thought they were going to let Nonna go back after a week but then try to guilt trip Victoria into persuading Nonna otherwise.

Something is wrong with me. Like I can't remember a good chunk of the cast's name. Until this episode I was like "who is that guy?" when looking at Miles. I forgot the Count Hanson's wife's name. I also forgot Jeff's uncle. I mean I was a guy who watched Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Often times there would be a character introduced in one episode and only stick around for 3. This happened both for anime original, but some adapted content too. I was able to remember them just fine. What's wrong with me? Sure I was in a fuming at fans of another anime because they apparently like suffering and Karmatic Overkill and I was furious yesterday for hours, but that should have no effect on me remembering what happened in Tefuda ga Oome no Victoria.

So why couldn't Eva get foreign medicine? Rumors are like "they're rich people and the father is the Foreign minister, that must be how Clark survived." They're wrong, but why? If they are rich people with underlings who work in foreign places, this shouldn't be hard since it should be affordable to them. Is the medicine something that needs cold storage making transport infeasible?

So how would Victoria conclude the tenant was left handled from the door handle? Maybe the owner used it before renting it to Miles. I mean she's correct, but this is a bit of a leap of logic. Then again she correctly concluded that Nonna was abandoned by her mother when I pointed out being hours late could mean "carriage accident" but she was correct.

I will continue to maintain freeing the guy from the prison cell was not worth the risk to Victoria even if the Marquess deserved it. She has a life with Nonna and he's not worth risking it all. Vicotria can't just snap her fingers and free him. Speaking of which even Jeff figured out Victoria isn't who she says she is. I'm thinking a 9-episode runtime just might make sense if it ends with Jeffery convicting her not to run despite him knowing about her. By this point he won't spook her if he tells her since she is already running. There are so many loose threads, but if it ends with Jeff and Victoria accepting each other, it can be a fitting season end that fits int he time slot.

So looks like Victoria is fleeing. I can't believe she would do that to Nonna. "Oh my parents moved around for their work all the time" that's not the same. This world doesn't have the telephone. It was quite hard on children in these days when their parents moved around for work. This was the case when they children were dragged along, if the father just moved with his work and came back home every 4 months, or even in the best-case scenario when they just hired permanent caretakers for their children because moving the children around would mean they never get any roots. How could Victoria do this? Why wouldn't she consider Nonna's feelings? it's not like... oh wait there were other characters who thought more about themselves than Nonna in this same episode.

I made a complaint about a different anime why I know the out-of-universe reason one side built a secret building was so that the other side could destroy it in a flashy explosion but I couldn't find the in-universe reason why they even existed. Well now I have the opposite case. I don't know the out-of-universe reason why Count Hanson and his wife locked up Nonna. The in-universe reason is that they are grieving for the loss of their daughter and they're too selfish to consider Nonna's wishes. Selfish nobles, eh it happens. But why the out-of-universe reason? Like let's say they the nobles let Nonna leave and then behind her back tried to guilt trip Vicotria into convincing Nonna to change her mind. In that case it would provide a bit of a dilemma. Neither they nor Victoria have any blood ties to Nonna making her claim to guardianship shaky in these days. In Victorian Era Britain, uncles, aunts, grandparents and older siblings made stable guardians but anyone outside the family was considered "unless someone better comes along or until the child is an adult." But since Vicotria would be on the run, two nobles who respected Nonna's wishes could offer a more stable life than a spy on the run. As it stands in the anime, it is unambiguous who is the right choice since the nobles don't care about what Nonna wants, but if they did it the way I suggested Victoria would have to make a tough decision on bringing Nonna on the run.

4

u/Plus_Potato4351 13d ago

There was no medicine. Clark survived by chance like some people do in every pandemic. Not everyone who gets sick dies. However, people started saying that he survived because of foreign medicine. That's why they say that logically Eva and family is not to blame but others see it differently.

The door handle shows more wear on the left side, like it has been opened by someone left-handed most of the time.

1

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 13d ago

The reason I think the wear is a leap of conclusion is that, unless they skipped something from the LN, as far as Victoria knows the owner could have lived there before starting to rent out. In medieval times it would be unthinkable, but in Victorian times (no pun intended, the architecture and carriage style implies this level of technology) it was possible for someone poor to be not so poor and end up being a minor landlord with the first property they rent out being their old place. In the end it doesn't matter since we the viewers know her conclusion is correct.

2

u/Plus_Potato4351 13d ago

I mean the only thing she concluded from the door handle and other stuff about the house was that Miles has not lived there long and isn't the original resident. Along with his sudden appearance in her life and him being former military, it was just too many coincidences for her liking. Also the house is in the noble quarter, so it would be hard to imagine someone not wealthy owning a house there, but I don't think that part is relevant at all.

4

u/LaoWombat-mecha 13d ago

I will continue to maintain freeing the guy from the prison cell was not worth the risk to Victoria even if the Marquess deserved it. She has a life with Nonna and he's not worth risking it all. Vicotria can't just snap her fingers and free him.

I think Vicky believes in owning her actions, she was responsible for him being captured, so she decided to bear the responsibility for freeing him and his sister.

2

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 14d ago

Damn i really hope Jeffrey and Vicky end up together and hope Nonna is ok🙏

1

u/Substantial-Bet6855 14d ago

Hmm, I have a question about this series. In this episode, the protagonist speaks in internal monologues, recalling things from the past that come to mind, like the Hanson incident with the letter and the luggage, and when she's about to leave because she knows Miles is a spy?

1

u/pavelblink182 13d ago

I know Victoria has valid reasons, I just hope Jef has some dignity and don't start chasing her, she made her choice.

1

u/amourshipper_ 13d ago

1

u/daspaceasians 12d ago

Well people around her kept digging into her and did not leave her alone. That's how youbspook a spook.

The 2nd Prince and then, Jeff's brother posting Miles are the most to blame.
