Something I love doing with this series is looking up things about Hittite history, society and mythology that are brought up in the episode.

This time I want to bring up Illuyanka, a serpentine dragon from Hittite myth. Because I find the story around it to be quite hilarious. Probably the dumbest plan of vengeance I've seen, and what's even dumber is that it worked

In the second version, after the two gods fight and the Hurrian Storm God Teshub loses, Illuyanka takes the Storm God's eyes and heart. To avenge himself upon the dragon, the Storm God marries the daughter of a poor man. They have a son Sarruma, who grows up and marries the daughter of the dragon Illuyanka. The Storm God tells his son to ask for the return of the Storm God's eyes and heart as a wedding gift and he does so. His eyes and heart restored, the Storm God goes to face the dragon Illuyanka once more. At the point of vanquishing the dragon, the Storm God's son finds out about the battle and realizes that he had been used for this purpose. He demands that his father take his life along with Illuyanka's and so Teshub kills them both.

Also, I gotta respect the power play from Prince Kail to plant his ass on someone else's throne and then surround himself with girls for a first impression

Seldomly have I witnessed such bad storywriting as in this show, when the actualy premise and setting of this show is really great imho.

I’ll need to watch this at some point- Bronze Age stuff outside of Greece/egypt is super rare, especially the Hittites

One of the few examples I can think of off the top of my head is the Nantucket series by SM Stirling, which featured Iberians, some tribes in Britain, and the Babylonians

First part of the episode was kind of unbearable but that apple tree kiss was pretty good. It's amazing how there's always a stick for Yuri to step on right at the wrong moment.

Nice amount of physical affection between our main couple.

One of those minor irritations that I haven't mentioned until now: That when the terrain isn't bare dirt (or stone), it's lush rolling low green grass like they're on someone's very large lawn.

Yuri gets rolled under Kail in bed and he's entirely up close and personal and... she falls asleep.

You know it's serious when Nakia is actually worried about something...and she's so self-centered it's clearly something that effects HER rather than the Hittites themselves, even as they're losing their important to the Mittani.

It's rough that Yuri and Kail are still giving each other the cold shoulder...but lucky Yuri's handmaidens double as wingwomen! Provided Yuri listens to them and doesn't go off on her own to investigate Nakia.

Man, Yuri nearly gave Nakia what she wanted if not for Kail being there, but she knows what Nakia is so afraid of: the Eye of Illuyanka. With it Nakia, or now the Mittani, have the power of mind control. As if they didn't have enough of that with Zannanza.

Dang, the king REALLY wants to wipe the Mittani out, no matter how long it takes. Even if it means him personally leading the charge.

Yuri was all excited for a heroic campaign...but she's staying home in Hattusa. I get where Kail is coming from, they shouldn't risk Yuri, they should prioritize sending her home, especially depending on how long this war gets...but without Kail, Yuri loses the one thing keeping her going in this time period.

Zannanza knows how to incite his brother. Make it sound like he's kidnapping Yuri again and force Kail to chase him down and catch them...playing with an apple orchad. But the job was done! If Kail would murder any man over Yuri, he should take better care of her! Because ultimately they want to be together and SHOULD be together, as they share a kiss under the orchard!

Oh hey, it's those retainers from the OP! And Shalma, an attractive priest the girls all go gaga over! He looks completely trustworthy.

The Prince of Darkness is looking forward to battling Kail, but Kail lead him away so he could infiltrate Malatya...with his sexy "Harem" made up of Yuri and the sisters.
