Question Islands

Hi, how are you guys doing? I have a question. How do you manage your islands?

Do all of your islands have their own production chains, or do you divide your islands by production? For example, one island is the main one and only has the city, with no industry; another island is focused on agriculture; another one is for heavy industry, and so on. Or how do you manage them?

I was thinking about keeping industries separated by island and then shipping the products to the “capital,” but I’m not sure how effective that would be.
Thankssss

I made myself a table to check which god affect each production building.

There are more building not affected by any gods than I initially realised. I filtered them on the last 2 pics.

Do you think, we will see new Gods that affect them in the future?

I can easily see Venus affecting the production chains of Narcissiums, Brooches, Necklaces and Tessera. (including Gold washers/mines, Silver mines and Shell Gatherers, that are also affected by Vulcan and Neptune)

Discussion Questions about Anno 117

Hello people who play anno, i still thinking about getting new entry and before i do, i have questions about this game.

  1. I saw that your opponents can become specialists but at the same time i saw a video where you can add an opponent later down the game - so can be opponent be added if he/she is now your specialist?

1.1 Are any of them good?

  1. Why the info or wiki well not non-existent but quite low or a bit outdated compared to the anno 1800?

  2. Is prestige another currency like in 1800? If yes what for? If no, why bother having it?

  3. Are there expeditions or world map like in anno 1800?

  4. Is overly idiotic? censorship is gone? I have heard that on the start of the game launch that there were lots of problem with overly censoring censorship.

  5. Also are pirates fully defeatable or as in anno 1800 they will comeback eventually?

  6. I saw Emperor/Empress are here doing stuff, what about them, what they do provide and why declaring war on them?

7.1 Also whats the difference between the 2? which one is better and for what?

Discussion What you guys think the two new military units are ?

Personally hoping for War elephants for one of them. They already had a model rendered for the campaign. Would love to bring them to Albion to crush the Skaha. Not too familiar with ancient Egypt to think a unit that would stand out and fit the Anno theme. (Not saying war elephants do but yeah)

General Anno 117 Trade Routes Glitch

Anyone else experiencing this? I have noticed that when my ships "deliver" a set of goods ever since the new DLC update, some of these goods "vanish" upon delivery. Specifically, there will be a full stack in the ship; it unloads when it reaches the pier or warehouse, yet it does not register in the Islands inventory. I think that resetting the route or adding or subtracting fixed this issue, but I wasn't sure if anyone else saw this.

I was going through one of my old Anno 1800 save files and came across some absolute architectural masterpieces.

Among them: this little gem.

tbh. I don't know what I was going through back then.

Coming back to play after a break, before I could leave the AI to a few of the large islands on the map, but now with Cinis to feed whilst working with max difficulty settings, I found myself in need of the space.

The only problem is war means war with everyone, as once you break with the harder AI, they will will gang up on you as at this stage of the game (130+hour save) I had spent a long time getting them to play nicely with each other. (Poor Caeso is still traumatized from his previous punishment and whilst is present on the diplomacy screen has not had the will to return to Latium entirely (he's bugged and wont respawn 🤔) )

So that means you must be prepared to attack all of your targets at once and finish it quickly. Otherwise the war dragging on will sink you economically, generating negative production feedback loops that can cost you the game on these settings. Particularly, because the Emperor does not like you going to war, this chain of events will also inevitably trigger an Imperial invasion (The Emperor will attack because you simply do not have enough time to conquer your intended targets before you can accept his peace offers to stop the war). The goal is also to keep the AI alive, as I feel they make the game feel more alive and interesting.

Having to also deal with an invasion during your campaign against the AI, means that even your supply lines will be attacked eventually even though you are at limited war with the others. You also lose all of the bonus income from allied effects, being unable to trade with traders (which is important to offload some chains that need to keep production running to generate other goods) as well as increased taxes.

So after some preparation, an enormous multi-prong attack was launched on 4 islands, two in Latium, two in Albion, with Neferneru being the main target but also the hardest nut to crack. With a large scale battle at sea and four landings to manage across provinces, poor Ben Baalion had never had to speak about oh Mythras and concerns about the situation Ere so much before this. Voada had the time of her life I'm sure, as she sank many full penteconters whilst I was fighting elsewhere.

I believe I burned around 300 units and around 100 quinqueremes and who knows how many penteconters (I use these for trade as they are cheapest efficiency in use and replacement) after all is said and done, including the invasion fleets. As well as around 17m Denarii in losses and bribes to help smooth things over.

Now that the PAX has returned, income is back in the black and meat is back on the menu boys. An era of relative peace now to build out efficient production chains to feed a future Cinis. The AI still live, but the last of the large islands are mine.

*As an added bonus, you also get to deal with frequent uprisings, fires and plagues at the same time that also strain your economy, risking complete collapse due to the negative production feedback loops.

Discussion Changed consumption rates

I know, I am hardly the only one, or the first to throw my hat into the ring regarding the changed consumption rates. But I did have a question, or rather a hypothetical, would linking bread consumption to city status be a good idea or not.

First of all, I would like to say that I like the new update, I haven't had much experience with the fact that the colosseum is now a major bread consumer yet, but I do get it and I am looking forward to playing with its splendour more.

But that got me thinking, I am working up the the colosseum at the moment, and I still feel like without it, a big city does not pose that much of a challenge. So my shower thought is, what if some consumption rates were linked to city status? What would any major downsides be? Would it not feel like anno anymore? Or would it be roughly the same in the end as linking population, which is already the case.

I get that this introduces a whole new balancing issue in the first place, but I do believe this could be a positive change, for an example lets stick with the bread example:

You just started your game, your balance is barely in the plus, and you have built every production chain. You are ready to grow your city, and on top of the incidents a small modifier on food chains will be introduced, so instead of building fire stations and vigiles, you would need to build more bakeries as well. (I believe it is still the case that the higher tier residences consume less of the goods of the previous tiers, if this is wrong, please correct me.)

But working on the assumption patricians consume less bread than plebians, directly linking a consumption increase to city status instead would lead to only big cities wanting more bread, which would leave smaller production islands relatively unscathed.

What do you think? Does this make sense?

Question Epona or Mercury?

I have the rest of the deities and all the perks they bring well established in my game. However, I have not yet tried Epona nor Mercury. Neferneru and Tarragon were in a Rebellion and the emperor conquered one of the big islands from one of them. I bought it as soon as it became available so now I have this large island ready to be built. I want to try one of the two but I'm unsure as to which one is more beneficial.

Hey yall, I started hitting the upper parts of Cinis, still have about 50% of the island left. Ill probably stop expanding and keep optimizing the island from here try to increase the stats. Fix my trade routes and build out Albion more while I wait for Dawn of the Delta. Happiness and fire are pretty well taken care of but health is abysmal. Im curious how ill incorporate the new CDLC into this main capital. I also have a Neptune island that I ve decorated to look as hellenistic as possible and RP in my save that its Greek. Im gonna try my hands on a "rebeautification" challenge, remodeling that particular island with the new skins. Ive also scoped out a smaller island i plan on making a more cozy fisherman village. Ill probably work on all my harbors as well to incorporate the new ornaments.

Curious what everyone is doing between now and DLC3. 🙂

Question Anno 117 - Can I completely skip aqueducts ?

So I finally have time to play the game enough to the point that they started introducing aqueducts and I find them kinda hideous, and hard to plan around. So my question is: can I avoid building them completely ? So far in my game I see that they give bonuses to T3 pop and some fire fighting, but not much else. So yeah, can I like skip them ?

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Religion and local devotion

How do you fellow governors feel about?

My concern is that later levels of local devotion have insanely high requirements. Last level need 300 000 devotion! I know we have Cernunnos to skip a level, but still, there's no way to get even 100 000 devotion on a regular island, unless I'm missing something. Even with the help from temples, Poseidon and specialists there's no way for a regular island to reach 100 000 or even 50 000 local devotion!

Some might say that getting +150% is optional, but it's a game about production and there should be a meaningful option to get the last level of local devotion on non-Cinis island.

This might get changed in future with upcoming DLC and new gods\techs\marvels, but it's a vanila feature and there should be a way to achieve decent level of local devotion using vanila tools.

So I say with the time developers have before the next big patch in november they should look into it and rebalance numbers, they do not feel right!
