Discussion πŸ—£οΈ Perfect Counter to "Just a Tool, Bro!"

β€’ Upvotes

I came up with this after I saw one too many slop prompters whinging: "AI jUsT a tOoL bRo!1!"

Our response should be: "Pencils and paintbrushes neither pilfer nor plagiarize."

What do you all think? It's accurate, easy to remember, and we don't have to waste energy typing out 5000 word essays responding to the AI bros' lies.

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ Anti-AI Alternative to Canva?

β€’ Upvotes

I relied a lot on canva for creating resources as a new teacher. I've found alternatives for Google Docs and my Browser for at home, but Canva is hard to replace. Currently I'm just carefully sorting through graphics to avoid using generated images, but the search engine in the app seems to rely on AI now and I don't feel comfortable with it.

Anyone find any non-AI alternatives?

Thank you

Environmental Impact 🌎 Georgia families sue Meta, accuse its data center of tainting their water

Thumbnail ajc.com

Paywalled. Here, are a few paragraphs to get the gist of the story.

…

They allege the extensive tree clearing, blasting and excavation required to construct the more than $1 billion campus disturbed the area’s underground aquifer, polluting their well water with silt and sediment that clogged their water lines and damaged their appliances.

β€œThe clear-cutting of swaths of trees led to sporadic dust storms while, at night, the data center’s bright white lights can be seen from their homes and obscure the stars, according to the complaint.

β€œThe Plaintiffs did not consent to the introduction of muddy water, turbidity, silt, sediment, fines, clays, excessive evening light intrusion, noise, particulate and chemical air emissions onto their properties.” the complaint, filed in Gwinnett County on Monday, reads.”

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ Thoughts on stem splitters?

β€’ Upvotes

I am adamantly anti-ai, and especially do not like generative AI used in the music space. I've been interested in the use of stem splitters, as I like to create sheet music transcriptions of video game soundtracks so that I can play them on my own instruments. I recently started using Logic Pro which has a stem splitting feature, and I guess I don't really know what this tool uses to do this.

If it uses generative AI in any way, I don't want to use it as I don't support the use of it. But I'm not sure if it is that or just uses overtones, timbre of instruments, frequencies etc to determine it without AI.

Does anyone know anything about these? If this is the wrong spot to post this let me know.

AI Mistakes 🚨 Frustration with Antigravity and Gemini Models

β€’ Upvotes

I feel like antigravity is straight up scamming us. I've been using antigravity for a while now, and I've never been more frustrated. To begin with, Gemini 3.1 Pro is disappointing, and Gemini 3.7 Flash just guesses things and lacks a proper train of thought. It often feels like it half-asses everything.

I have no idea how it achieves such good benchmark scores but struggles with the simplest tasks. It seems to require extremely detailed prompts unlike any other models. Even when I provide a proper prompt, I can't trust it; most of the time, it just messes things up.

Regarding the quota on the Claude models, it's crazy. All I asked it to do was run a PowerShell command, and it exhausted 50% of my 5-hour quota. I also have Ponytail installed, and I wonder if it's affecting these models in terms of reducing token usage. As a student, I don't have the budget to purchase a Claude plan or explore other options, which has been incredibly frustrating. What should I do?

Preventing the Singularity How can I stop pictures from being scraped (other than Glaze and Nightshade)

I tried to download either one, but my GPU doesn't support it. Are there other ways?

And if there isn't a way, can I post said picture on Reddit safely, or is it likely to get scraped?

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ AI YouTube Ad

β€’ Upvotes

Has anyone else here been getting this really unsettling ad on YouTube for an AI service that allows you to listen to everything in your girlfriend's voice? I have been very often recently. It gives me chills every time. It feels like it's aimed at cis hetero men. It opens with something along the lines of "we know you really love your girlfriend" and then scrolling through instagram of someone I think and then something like "what if you could hear everything in your girlfriend's voice? wouldn't you like that? you can with [this service]" I also get ads for AI study tools that are explicitly being advertised to people with adhd (so I guess they also know I have that), but the girlfriend voice one is like particularly creepy and feels sort of dystopian.

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ Use of AI for a cake I kinda drew.

Idk if this belongs here, I just thought since this is an anti-AI sub, this might fit here? Tell me if I'm wrong.

Basically, I wanted a custom designed cake for my birthday, and I know I was leaving it quite last minute, it's in a little less than 2 weeks. But we sent off my small design with a descriptions and what I wanted in it, and a note saying to ask if there's any questions.

I would've thought someone who uses to be an art teacher and now does custom cakes wouldn't use AI, and I was kinda excited to see what she would've draft designed with my idea. But when my mother sent a photo of a screenshot the woman sent, it was on chatGPT, and it's clear she just put the idea into AI and hoped it was fine.

But half of it isn't what I wanted, and I feel really disappointed and upset by it, that she was apparently excited to do it, and the creative the better, and she couldn't even spent an hour to re-design it with my descriptions to the best that she could do.

I know I'm an adult and I was procrastinating, but I wanted something cool and custom made since this might be my last custom designed cake for a long, long while. We paid the 20 quid deposit, just for her to take my idea and put it into AI. I wish we went for someone different, it just feels like my hopes got stamped on.

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ Worst Part Of AI Was Showing Me How Many People Do Not Respect Artistis In The Slightest

Maybe it's fair to call me naive, but for most of my life, I've always assumed that most people had a general respect for art/artists, no matter the format. I am not saying everyone has to be a fancy art critic or something like that, but my god, some of the stuff I have seen these pro-AI people say is ludicrous. Just no respect for fellow humans whatsoever, and I genuinely don't understand it, nor do I think I want to.

What causes people to be like this? Usually people hate certain things or people because they have had previous bad experiences, but are you seriously going to tell me someone had a horrible experience at, like, an art museum or something? That just doesn't make sense.

Job Loss 🏚️ A startup is now raising money to become the biggest job network powered by AI

Torre.ai straight up say their AI matches people to jobs over 1000 times faster than humans (or even other LLMs), while cutting costs by the same factor. Their own materials talk about wanting to cut the middle men job boards let AI be the main decision maker in the hiring process.

The founder (a Shark Tank Colombia guy) has already dumped $11 million of his own money into it, and they've pulled in $22 million total from more than 50 investors so far.

So basically: fully AI-run hiring pipeline, and now selling shares in that mission to the general public.
