System1, Inc. today announced that its MapQuest mapping service has surged to become the No. 1 overall free app in the Apple App Store in both the United States and Canada.

The milestone follows a rapid ascent for the app, driven by users embracing MapQuest’s decision to keep familiar historical names for lakes and gulfs on its maps App usage has increased over 50 times its normal rate and carried the app to the top position of the overall free charts in both countries.

MapQuest remains available for free on iOS and Android.

Whenever I click on a pinned or favorited address in Apple Maps on my iPhone, it automatically launches directions from my location. And when I cancel out the directions, it unfortunately does not zoom to that pinned location.

I want to disable this as sometimes I just want to look around a location — not go there.

Similarly, I want to open a guide at the same time I’m searching for an address. “I am going to be in this neighborhood, let’s see what I’ve saved.” That doesn’t seem to be possible either.

Am I just missing something?

This is absolute GARBAGE. At least throw ads at me that have to do with places I tend to search for. Why the hell am I getting a TAX FIRM suggested to me?!?! Is Apple for real about allowing this????? Hell no man….

I built CurrentDrive as an add-on to Apple Maps for EV drivers. You choose your destination and define what kind of charging stops you want, such as fast chargers with a toilet, restaurant, or specific charging networks nearby.
CurrentDrive plans the charging stops, then sends the complete route to Apple Maps using multi-stop routing. Apple Maps handles the actual navigation, including in CarPlay. There’s also a 10–80% charging mode.
I mainly built it for myself because I prefer Apple Maps and CarPlay but wanted better EV trip planning without another navigation app. It’s completely free: no subscription, IAP, or trial.
I’d love to hear what other EV drivers would want from an Apple Maps add-on like this.

My house was built in 2024, on a new road that didn't exist before that. So I expected map systems to take time to catch up. But my address now appears correctly on Apple Maps. And my home address is listed correctly in the system. But despite Apple correctly knowing that my home address is "45 Mystreet Rd", if I ever get directions to "Home", it always navigates to "25 Mystreet Rd" instead. That is the address of my neighbor, who lives at the other end of this road.

It's just a minor annoyance, but I'm curious, why would it do this? If it knows my home address correctly, why does it change to a different address when navigating?

I swear, we need a biking map mode. It can be stylized similar to how Transit looks on Maps. It would be so nice being able to see a map of all the biking trails. It would be useful too.

I'm curious how people use Apple or Google maps to keep a nice list of their favorite places. And if there is a way to see your friends lists. Do they allow people to give other people access to their saved lists of places?

For those on iOS 27, the updated 3D satellite rendering is now live in the Chicago area! The buildings, streets, and roads look way sharper and much higher quality!

It looks like Apple has just released a huge transit expansion covering India!

Today the Thessaloniki metro (Greece) launched 5 new subway stations. Apple Maps didn’t updated yet and are not available. Google Maps have them available

The available line is this on the first photo and the 5 new stations are shown as graphic (second photo) and not as POI or for directions.

Was nearly late for an interview because of this stupid app even after I reported that the road was closed. How is this even possible?
