Bell's grocery store (now B&T, but its still Bells to me), Mama Sid's, Nowhere Bar, what other places haven't been updated and feel like they would fit in 30+ years ago?

Dentist recs!

Editing to mention that I've found out most regular dentists don't do bone grafting, which makes sense. Looks like I'll need some oral surgeon recs instead!

Hi all.

I need some pretty intense dental work done - bone graft, implant, crowns, etc.

I've gone to McRae dental and had some bad experiences (lockjaw, lots of pain, assistants super not caring that I'm like, in agony).

I've gone to Brad Hall and he wants me to get all kinds of stuff done that I absolutely don't need (wisdom teeth out because they're "hard to clean" even though my wisdom teeth are 100% fine, not sideways or impacted or damaged, and he wants me to get Invisalign after wisdom teeth extraction to adjust my bite) and I don't have money to get stuff I don't need.

Does anyone have a dentist recommendation that does bone grafts and implants?

Service Work

Hey all! Currently working on an online masters degree in social work. This semester I’m looking to do 15 hours of service work (not exactly placement or internship, more like shadowing a social worker/volunteer work, sort of the intro to placement I suppose!) and was wondering if there are any social workers on here!

It’s been a bit harder because my program is out of state so not as automatic if I was a student at UGA.

Thanks for any tips or leads you all might have!

Outerloop lane closure

One lane on the outer loop from about Timothy Road to Milledge. Can’t see anything happening in the closed lane, no idea why the lane is closed. Just plan your commute accordingly.

Roadkill ID

Getting off the loop from Epps Bridge onto Atlanta Highway this morning, there was a dead animal in the new exit lane that they are paving to the right. I swear it looked like a mountain lion. Obvs that’s insane. Was it a dog? A deer? A bobcat? Am I just totally losing it?

Question / Request 93.3 Reception

Seems like over the past month or so my reception of 93.3 has gone down. Maybe they are transmitting at lower power or another station is stepping on them?

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Question / Request I accidentally bought 2 right hand gloves at an estate sale. Help me find whoever bought the the lefts!

They are Vietnam-era sheepskin flying gloves. I bought them at an estate sale on June 13. The house was Tudor style and in a neighborhood off Mitchell Bridge. These gloves are beautiful! I only tried one of them on at the time, because the one fit, and it was too hot to try on long leather gloves.

Last night, I sat and watched Flight of the Phoenix (the first one with Jimmy Stewart, not the one with Dennis Quaid) with my dying father, and he mentioned that he’d like to have a pair of flying gloves. I said hold on, and went to grab the ones I had “gotten such a good deal on” at the estate sale to give them to him (there’s nothing that man loves more than one of his children getting a good deal). I went to put them on to show them off, and they were two right handed gloves! My dad laughed his ass off.

So now, what do I do with two right hand gloves? I figured I’d try Reddit. These gloves are too nice for there to be two of us out here with a very beautiful but useless pair of gloves.

So if you or someone you know accidentally bought two left gloves at an estate sale in June, you are in luck! I’ll gladly trade you one right glove for one left glove.

Bishop Park Playground

Post image
29 Upvotes

Looks like they are working on a redoing or updating the playground at Bishop Park.

I searchEd online but I can’t find any details. All I can find are presentations on ACC’s website from over 5 years ago simply staying they wanted to renovate and update the playground and it was part of their Master Plan for Bishop Park, but no specifics.

Anyone know what they have planned?

Insert your fave memes for one of r/Athens fave running jokes in the comments.

Initially I wasn't sure if food recalls had reached this level, but then I saw that, yes, refrigeration issues at this location once again. Was this store built on top of a Native American burial ground? Cursed Kroger.

Did anybody else buy what they thought was a really nice pair of sheepskin gloves at an estate sale in June?

ACCPD Curiosity

Genuinely curious as to if anyone has had a positive experience with ACCPD? I have only heard and witnessed negative interactions with our local civil servants. Hoping at least one person can provide a glimmer of decency…

eta: Thank you for all of the responses! While some of these are positive experiences, I feel like most are just...not negative? It's important that we remember that the police are civil servants who are paid with our tax dollars to protect and serve. Responding to a situation and not being a d\ck about it is quite literally the bare minimum.*

Appreciating law enforcement while also holding them to high standards is both possible and necessary.
