Currently - without knowing how they will acclimatise to emery and his tactics and presuming no more deals happen. I feel, with everyone fit, this will be our strongest 11.

I'd prefer Jackson as a LW with Manzambi, Mbaye and Madjo is a mouthwatering prospect and a genuine threat against all defences

I'd even say this is potentially better then the Buendia, Rogers, Mcginn, Watkins set up we had.

And yes I've bought into Madjo potential.

Looking forward to when everyone is fit and had a few games before truly judging.

An XI of our new signings vs one comprised of players who left us?

Obviously, our old XI is a little makeshift:

• Bailey hasn't left yet
• Garcia is loaned out, he should be back next summer. But I decided to add him and not Nedeljkovic because he has more appearances for us
• Luiz was only a loan
• Mosquera never played for the senior team, but I needed a 2nd CB and we sold him for half a million euros to Vitoria

But for the sake of discussion, I cobbled this together.

Disclaimer - we've only seen one game where we didn't have our new signings in to enable him to play as a true 9. This is purely based on what we saw yesterday.

Anyway, I keep thinking back to how silky smooth some of his deeper passages of play were. He was always happy to take on his man. He fought for the ball when possession was lost. He made some lovely 1-2 plays with others on the team...

Would he be bad in a more natural deeper role than the false 9 he was playing yesterday? Can't comment on his reputation for being "wasteful" as a striker yet, but I'm already wondering what Jackson in any of those 3 mentioned positions would do with Madjo as the target man?

Now that our transfer window is all but over, i figure it’s time to come up with a few chants/songs for the new signings. What we currently have by my count:

So guys I was at Universal Studios this Saturday and I wore my Aston Villa Slim Fit Replica to the park with black Shorts and Winter Sea Asics for Comfort over my Bruno Marcs and tbh loved it. Add to that a teen saying Arsenal is the best and another guy wearing a GOT/Harry Potter type Jersey appreciating the jersey and saying Why do you support them? I replied that, always love supporting the underdogs over the Giants.
P.S: Saw a man wearing the Jordan Brazil Away jersey, some Adidas Mexico jerseys, An Adidas Newcastle Jersey, a few Real Madrid and Barcelona ones, an Olympique Lyonnais, a Seattle Sounders and a few Liga MX jerseys such as America and Guadalajara as well, what a day.

5 questions, the first ones are easy but they get a bit more difficult at the end!

Two games in and we've had one mad red card for someone who should have already had a second yellow, McGinn should have conceded a penalty in that game too, then probably should have received a second yellow for his barge yesterday (we'd argue it were roles reversed), as well as Maatsen getting away with a very generous no-penalty decision.

Each incident was also pointlessly rash.

Of course we always get a rough deal with general fouls around the pitch, we don't seem to get anything for the trips and niggles, but it doesn't excuse braindead attempts at assertiveness

Firstly, I'm happy with how we played last night and there were some real positives. Particularly seeing Hemmings continue his preseason and super cup performances and showing, while a bit green, he deserves his chance and a run in the first team. Another big plus was seeing Jackson run the channels, and drive at defenders.

However, I couldn't help but feel disappointed with Garnacho and Abraham. There was an immediate drop in energy, effort and quality on the ball. Maybe it's the scars of a season of Sancho doing the same but we need bench players to lift us and finish strong. Alright Alysson got booked and was a bit overzealous but he did far more with his time than Garnacho did. Abraham was slow on two or three occasions to realise he had to press Raya to force him to pick up the ball.

I'm aware they're not really the same "quality" of footballer, but is there a world where we see someone like Lynch get game time if he comes on and busts a gut for 10-15 minutes? This could be the second season in a row of having an expensive loan, which might not become permanent, and it also potentially impedes the development of a youngster.

Yes, it's early in the season, yes it was against the champions but it's the lack of perceived effort that you can't ever really excuse at any stage of the season.

Firstly; forgive the ranting post - I was just thinking about how good a window we’ve had; and it got me thinking…

One thing thats not been spoken about much is that we seem to be doing some sneaky long term planning for our UEFA squad building:

In the next 2-3 years; our club trained players could become:
- Bogarde
- Hemmings
- Madjo
- Mbaye

This meets the 4 slots.

Home grown includes the above plus:
- Mings (retiring)
- Barkley (retiring)
- Cash
- Maatsen
- Garnacho (possibly)
- THB
- Abraham
- AWB
- Wright

Unfortunately our homegrown could quickly start reducing as most seem to be the older players; or those perhaps not quite good enough.

I think cash, Maatsen, THB, and Wright probably means we hit the 4 required regardless?

I could see us continuing to pick up 17/18 year olds with a view to getting them classed as club trained players for us going forwards (plus this increases sale value within the Premier League).

Rowe could sensibly replace AWB as RB2 as he heads towards retirement?

We probably need another young CM - could JJA, Borland or Boyd step up? What about the under the radar signing of Kane Taylor?

We probably need to buy another young Winger - particularly if garnacho doesn’t cut it.

I think this could definitely start to impact our next 2/3 transfer windows - and if we can carry on picking up the likes of Mbaye, that’ll be amazing!

Otherwise; looking at players like Garner, Branthwaite and others we were linked with do make a lot of sense…

I’ve been following Premier for a few years and decided to pick a team, through a random draw I got Villa, and honestly the more I read about the team, the more glad i am that the universe selected Villa.

Anyways, does anyone know cool Villa podcasts, videos about the history of the team and the city?

What do Aston Villa fans think of Madjo? Is he better than jackson? Will he start once back? What is the striker rotation like

So, do you think we'll have a different set up for the Hull game? Given the fact we have a bunch of new signings with nearly a week of training with the team.

Yeah honestly

Sounds crazy to say it, but I can’t stress how giddy yesterday’s loss made me feel about the season. We held ground for 60 mins with little to no prep from 2 new players (Wan-Bisaka & Jackson) + most of the new signings not on the pitch yet (Goretzka, Mbaye, Madjo, Gomes, Harwood-Bellis).

Once everyone gels (2-3 games max hopefully I think after seeing today’s performance)…I feel like we’ll have a strong case for 4th - 6th place at end of season (zero chance we defeat Man City, Arsenal, and Chelsea’s rank this year).

Feel like Emery’s Villa 2.0 is going to be a fun one.

I was watching the game with my dad yesterday. At full time I turned to him and said - "You know what, that was really promising".

My old man, who doesn't really watch too much football, thought I was mad.

But I saw the vision. And with the recent signing and current young talent i.e. Alysson a.k.a Morgan Rogers skin walker - not only will we be fine - I'm going to make a bold prediction:

Emery's building the greatest Aston Villa team of our generation. Possibly of the 21st century.

Anyone still unsure, I encourage to you relax. The attacking cohesion will come. This crop of players will bond into a team. Manzambi hasn't even made his debut yet. Alysson hasn't started a game yet. We've got Leon Grotezka to come in. We've got Mbaye waiting in the wings and Harwood-Bellis, a brilliant signing and replacement for an aging Konsa, coming shortly.

Genuinely never been more excited as a Villa fan. Just give it time.

My report from last night

For me it was a lesson in moving on. I did a lap of VP before kick-off and counted mainly McGinn shirts. I thought the Konsa applause was a touch of class as much as it hurt fans. And the "new" song for Zion Suzuki made me laugh. Why not use humour to process all this change? Football moves on.

Villa fans have been through thick and thin and if this really is a "tumultuous period", then how exciting it means a Champions League season with new players to get excited by
