Coffee Shops

American here! 👋

Is iced coffee a thing in Basel? Other than at Starbucks

I’ve been looking at all the online menus I can find but not seeing any

Café Frühling

Often iced coffees (café freddo) are seen as a seasonal thing, so would not show up on a menu.

That's the best answer. But generally long coffee drinks aren't a thing here OP. Many places consider iced coffee to be an espresso shot poured over an ice cube.

Huh? I mean, I think literally every coffee shop I've been to, including the buvettes, has iced latte at the very least. Many have an entire seasonal menu, might just not be online. You can often also ask for stuff that's not on the menu, like an iced dirty chai etc.

For sure Frühling and ViCafé do, but I'd be super surprised to see one that doesn't offer anything.

Although it's probably not going to be Starbucks style frappucinos, sure.

Their iced cappuccino is top notch. Just don't go when you are in a hurry.

Ach, Zurich has Vicaffe - they’re pretty damn good for iced drinks.

There are plenty of places that sell Iced Coffee (as I also love them). Lots of small cafes or bakeries and not all of them have online menus.

That makes sense - and I would like a small business over a large one anyways. So that’s great!

You might want to repost your question in the r/Switzerlandcoffee subreddit.

It's definitely a thing. Especially after this hot summer xD sometimes it's called "Freddo cappuccino/cafe/espresso". I personally like Unternehmen mitte and cozy place.

Edit: i guess those are "places that serve coffee" not necessarily "coffee shops", I guess specialty coffee places might not have them, maybe the ice dilutes the sacred coffee lol. but overall it's not hard to find.

you can ask if they can make it iced for you, probably most places will do it

Both Kaffeemacher Bahnhof and Café sommer serve latte freddo or cold brews with ice. If you go to them not only that you’ll enjoy deliciously brewed coffee, but you’ll also be supporting a local business that sources its coffee responsibly.

Almost every cafe can make you an iced coffee. Just ask for a latte freddo or over ice.

I didn’t want to be that American who assumes someone would make something special for me! But I appreciate knowing that they won’t mind much!

They will tell you if they can‘t do it. But no one will fault you for politely asking

Ask for "Coffee freddo" - many coffee shops have these. They're quite seasonal at most places though.

there is a couple of nice coffee shops in basel that should all have iced coffee (i only drink iced matcha): daniska, ceracraft, milos (cookies and iced drinks), draft coffee, unternehmen mitte, dan's lab, 316 coffee, tinka

Why not real coffee like a Latte Machiatto?

I like latte machiattos. I just like it over ice - which is why I’m asking where I can get one

Then look for Latte Freddo on a non-americanized menu. Many italian cafés serve them.
