Help ID this bat
This little guy was flying around in my Chicago apartment when I got home from a trip. He ended up somewhere in the kitchen but I couldn't locate him. I just left the window open in hopes he found his way out. There was a single repeated chirp noise all night that I assumed would be him. Just curious what kind of bat this was. I live near Wrigley Field. My best guess is a Big Brown Bat based off googling bat types in the area but would like some expert insight.

Please turn off the fans and lights, then open a window. It's giving me such anxiety watching this while that fan is going 😅

Ahh shoot I didn't even think about the fan! 😩 I got up shortly after this when it last went in the kitchen. I closed all the doors, put the lights off, and left the kitchen window open.

Impossible to ID a bat in flight like this, we’d need close up pictures. But you’re right, big brown bats are very common in suburban/urban areas, readily roost in human structures, and haven’t experienced the large population declines due to disease that many species have.

I thought it was Fernando, but I constantly mix up the two, I felt so embarrassed I called Fernando the wrong name and he gave me the blankest stare like “how dare you”

Found a bat? Here is a guide for someone who has found a bat. And here is some info about bats in buildings. Here is some info about bat removals and exclusions from homes. Exclusions should be done outside of pup season, which varies by location.
No, it's probably not a baby. Bats are just smaller than you thought.
