If only I didn't have a lightswitch on the main wall

I was listening to an ambient playlist the other day and put on the "smart shuffle" on Spotify while working. A song that was not on my list, and that I had never heard, started playing and I immediately recognized as Boards of Canada.

There is something about their sound that is just unique but I can't touch my finger on it and this has been bugging me.

Anyone able to explain it objectively? Really curious about it.

can anyone else hear a record scratch 3:12 in into the magic land and a random ride cymbal around 4 seconds before the scratch? (OMG AND RAILWAY BELLS 39 SECONDS INTO ISTP)

He did Inferno a while back on request I think, and has now gone back to this by choice. (He does so many requests he has little time for self-chosen ones)

Is it just me or does Men I Trust have a really noticeable BOC influence in this song? It reminds me a lot of, for example, Satellite Anthem Icarus (just in terms of textures). What do you all think?

Kinda crazy once you notice it. As far as I can tell they never hit a major chord for the entire song. Never heard something like that before.

Anyone else love this song? I think it may be my favorite on the album. Mysterious, thematic, could be easily in a movie soundtrack. Really cool, gives me someone exploring a hidden cave vibes.

As a kid I loved the electronic soundtrack of ratchet and clank for ps2 the startup noise and red fog screen for PS2 also kinda reminds me of BOC. The eerieness of majoras mask I was majorly into aswell and think gave me a curiosity for uncanny stuff with the Ben drowned creepypasta was obsessed with that as a kid lol. As a teenager I really loved the ambient soundtracks to the classic fallout games vault city all clear signal I still listen to this day and then discovered boc when I was about 16 in 2021 came across aquarius on Spotify.

It appears that someone has linked up the official excerpt of Duffy from Acid Memories up with the supposed full and HQ version of the track that floats around in various places. A good observation to make here if you don’t want to watch the video is that the two line up perfectly in time but noticeably differ in tuning. I thought it would be good to bring this to attention.

Personally, I still don’t trust that the ‘HQ’ version is real. The official excerpt almost definitely sounds like it is taken from near the end of the track and not the start. It’s very unusual to have a BoC track - or any track at all - to thin out and then start back up again. And compared to the original, the difference in tuning is far too significant to be due to regular cassette speed differences (as the change in timing would be just as audible as the difference in tuning). It also overall sounds like it’s trying to sound like a cassette rip but it isn’t exactly there.

I do feel like I have to give props for the synth design on whoever DID make the track though, it is very very good work
