RIP 🌈 Our beautiful baby crossed the rainbow bridge last night 🌈

Clyde, our family dog, just passed yesterday after a short fight with a mystery illness. He was only 9, he spent his birthday under anaesthesia getting diagnostics done :(

He was the silliest, craziest, most beautiful dog we could've ever asked for. He loved tug of war, playing with the ball outside, and he followed my mum around like a shadow. We're all heartbroken, the house feels too empty without him.

We had to get more doggo fresh food.
So 2-3 miles to the pet store and back.

Oliver drooled down that right side, tongue hanging out in the wind.

This sweet, sweet boy was adopted by my parents. He came from an abusive situation (they found bb pellets in his skin). Such a smart, goofy and loving dog 💜

My girl helps with so many household chores. Plumbing, washing floors, shredding paper, cleaning the toilet... Did I say she helps??? I mean her ball helps most of the time.

The “reject” of the litter ended up being the best dog we could have asked for ❤️

Our goofy boy was apparently the “reject” of the litter because of his teddy-bear ears 🧸

But I'm so glad that they left him for us to find

He's the biggest goofball, but he's also the calm to the storm that is his big sister Bonnie. She's another Border Collie and definitely keeps him on his toes, she's 100 miles an hour at all times, where as Ollie.. he's more of a "slow down and smell the roses, and the trees and the grass" - you get the idea. He has a tempo much more suited for cuddling up, rather than rounding up everyone and everything he can find, like Bonnie does.

He loves whatever anyone is doing and has to be part of it - mowing the lawn? He's laying down in the spots we've missed, shovelling mulch into the garden? He's supervising the wheelbarrow so that it doesn't run off. Kids are outside throwing the ball around? Or playing something that doesn't require a tennis ball? Either way, he's on fetch duty and he's actively recruiting members to join his team

His favourite people in the world are our four little kids.

He's their absolute best mate. If they're outside, he's outside. If they're playing, he's playing. If they're doing something he probably shouldn't be involved in… he's definitely there 😂

He's never really wanted anything other than to be wherever the family is.

He's even had a few adventures along the way. He and Bonnie were both bitten by a snake that was outside where the kids play, it has snuck through a gap in the fence for our back yard. Thankfully they were both okay, but it gave us one hell of a fright, and then the vet bill almost gave us a heart attack.

He's such a gentle, loyal dog and somehow manages to be both ridiculously silly and incredibly good with the kids.

We honestly couldn't imagine our family without him.

He's currently entered in a little competition, and we're seeing how far our goofy teddy-bear-eared boy can get, we are hoping if we can win, to fix up our yard to help make it a safer, more enjoyable space for the kids and dogs to grow up together. I'm sorry if this post isn't allowed (I'm more of a lurker than a poster on Reddit, so I'm still getting my head around the different rules) , so I won't directly post a link to it (but I think it's in my bio if I've done it correctly?), instead I'll just upload some photos of our goofball❤️ Any support would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to hear about yours though, does your Border Collie have a weird little quirk that makes them completely unique, like our boy? 🧸

Adolescent biting woes

I know it is developmentally appropriate and that it takes time and consistency but god daaamnit is the biting difficult to deal with.

Jack is just about 8 months old. He, unsurprisingly, bites when he gets too excited during play and also bites when he is trying to initiate play with us/get our attention.

We do a combination of redirecting with toys, ignoring, or a stern “no!” - all of which are effective. He has improved a lot since we first got him in late June.

He bit me yesterday trying to get me to engage with him in play and when I turned around to ignore him he bit me in the ass. He bit the underside of my arm this morning and pinched the fat and it hurt soooo bad.

I love him but I am very much looking forward to him really learning some boundaries and maturing out of this behaviour.

Hello everyone! It's my first post here. After my girl passed away at the beginning of this year we were finally were ready to invite our new addition to the family, Rouch.

I knew that after having my border collie there is no other breed for me out there. This is such a special kind of dog. I really miss my girl Coco but I am madly in love with this little guy.

Sad news today: our BC will be needing surgery

Post image

So we were dealt a blow this afternoon after the X-rays came out. Our 8-month-old BC has hip dysplasia in both legs and needs surgery. 😞

We suspected something was wrong by the way he sits and lies down, and the fact that he needed to rest after 5 min of active play or running. Even after easy walks, if we walked more than 30-40 min, he would stop and lie down.

This comes after we found out 2 weeks ago that one of his testicl*s didn't come down (I don't know what the correct term is). He would also be needing minor surgery for this as well.

It's going to be a hard couple of months 😞

Is this a Border Collie?

On the street where I live in Romania we found a mother dog with six puppies. I drove them all to the vet where we treated them for parasites and they received their first round of vaccinations. Shortly afterward we managed to find homes for five of the puppies and we decided to take one of them under our roof. One day I took a photo of Cookie and Apple AI identified him as a “Border Collie.” I then asked ChatGPT what breed he looked like and it said he definitely resembled a Border Collie. His personality and behavior also seem to fit the typical characteristics of a Border Collie. Is he a real one or a SHEIN version of a Border Collie?

PS: I love him anyway.

Nine month old border collie freaks out randomly?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I have a nine month old male border collie who is very well trained. Exercised properly mentally and physically. Very good off leash pretty good on leash. Knows all the important commands and is learning some as we speak. He is coming close to being dog neutral on walks. He’s well socialized. He has a 10 year old husky mix sister who he loves and plays with all the time.
I know it sounds gross, but I have a bit of a gross habit of spitting on the ground and a couple nights ago my border collie was sitting outside with me and started flipping out when I spat on the ground. Like went to go chase it and started whine/barking. He doesn’t bark much and only makes that sound when he hears my cats playing.
Today I was sitting inside with him and pretended to spit (made the noise but didn’t actually do it) and he started flipping out again and high pitched barks but like going after my face… not biting but licking me like he’s worried about me.
Has anyone else experienced this?? I tried google and I got nothing. It’s very weird and only started a few nights ago, he hasn’t done it before and we’ve had him since 12 weeks!
Not sure if it’s a herding thing (he’s not working line but obviously they still have strong herding instincts) or he’s worried about me. Any input would be appreciated! Photo for tax

Tick help!!

The ticks where I live are out of control this year and I’m looking for some help.
Our BC is on a flea and tick preventative, but they are hitching a ride on his fur and coming into the house. I have found at least 10 teeeeeny ones (smaller than a pencil point- had to use the magnifier on my phone to even know they were ticks) on my bed in the last 2 days and I had Lyme’s earlier this summer, so I need to be extra careful.
Our last dog was brown and shorthaired, so very easy to give him a once over before coming in the house. But the long, black hair is proving to be a problem.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks for spitting them??
